This particular book in the series seemed to be written according to some formula. Another case, this time with a prostitute with a grudge against abusive men - pretty standard fare. Then there's the sub-plot with Crutchfield which had very little action and no character development. Then the ending is action-packed but predictable and pretty unimaginative.
I have enjoyed the Jessie Hunt series, and have particularly enjoyed the character development of Jessie. I only wish she'd get together properly with Ryan, as I feel that romantic tension is dragging from one book to the next. But this story is very interesting and even scarier with a subplot involving a serial killer from the previous stories in the series. I always find this author's books to be quite the page-turner with a depth to his characters. Highly recommended from the very beginning of the series.
I’ve enjoyed all Blake Pierce’s novels in the series, but this one fell a little flat for me. Usually there are good twists and turns and surprises. This one really wasn’t all that tricky and it’s all been done before. It was a good read but hardly put me on the edge of my seat. This is my least favorite book out of the series this far.
Given that I didn't enjoy my first book (one of his popular works) from this author, I did not expect much with this one. Yet surprisingly this book was actually really good and I'm glad that I gave it a try. It started so strong and immediately held my interest until the end. Aside from the main case, it also has some subplots which give it more substance and appeal to me as a reader. Tho it was part of a series, I think the plot was still effectively delivered even without knowing anything about the other books, so that's a plus.
Pierce have done it again however what fsmily secrets did Bolton share with Hannah that Jessie doesn't have access to that Hannah knows the death of both Xander and Bolton haven't stopped the attempts of both their lives.
Xander did mention killing the scum of the earth is a family business.
I’m currently re-reading this entire series due to social distancing and the C Virus...good as always! This writer has woven another entertaining book!
While I love every book this author has written so far this one was no different. This series so so much better then the other 2 series I have been reading. I LOVE those other series but the Riley Paige and the Kate Wise series the author had a fall back trope she used in both books that started to annoy me. I'm only just on book 4 or 5 in the Riley Paige series so I hope she stops the fall back trope but in the Kate Wise she used it in all but one book and by the end of the series I was so annoyed by it.
Good read from beginning to end. This story gave me a break from my other authors who write great love stories, from second chance romances to billionaires and how they find their great love and onto delving into the lives of Security Agents that are rich and how they find love. But reading about psychological suspense stories is very exciting, and Jessie Hunt is good. Blake is good at writing mysteries and I am a fan. This the third story of Jessie hunt was good from beginning to end. I have gotten use to Jessie and Ryan getting hurt in the commission of trying to solve the murders. This one Jessie had to profile a lady killer who was drugging her victims and then choking them, the thing about it she had the look, piercing blue eyes beautiful figure but she always showed up in a different disguise. Then their was Crutchfield who was holding Hannah and a secret he promised to tell her. Crutchfield killed a pedophile, supposedly as part of the training of Hannah, thinking he could indoctrinate her to become his protege. I loved this story because it was entertaining, fast reading and had powerful cast of characters. Can't wait to read the rest of the stories.
I am having the best time with this series! Lucky for me, number 7 in the series comes out in three days! In Book 6, it appears someone has it in for men who pick up women for sex. This someone is cool, calculated, and quite efficient in her techniques. Jessie Hunt just keeps getting better and better in both her skill as a profiler and in actually use her intuition to avoid serious injury to herself! Hooray! I was beginning to think she'd never figure this part out. As with all of the installments in this series, there are also at least two other side stories going on, and all three are heart pounding and make the book hard to put down. Even if you haven't read the previous five books, Blake Pierce does a pretty good job at bringing a new reader up to date. However, I would strongly recommend you start with Book 1. Lots of great details and history from the first books make Book 6 even better.
I’m really happy that the author finally changed up the storyline of the book. It was interesting to know who the killer was from the beginning and following them through their crimes in addition to getting Jessie’s side of the story. I’m still waiting for that male criminal to come to fruition but I’m interested to see what happens next since the two main serial killers are now both dead.
P.S. I know this is a late thought that actually has to do with a previous book in the series but it just occurred to me that the level of shock and lack of knowledge that both Jessie and Ryan have about BDSM is completely unrealistic. How can you be an adult in this world and not know ANYTHING about it? Sure it might be surprising that married couples are so open with their relationship but the things they were doing are not odd at all. It’s like Jessie and Ryan live under a rock.
Have I mentioned I love Jessie Hunt books?! This one is another great addition. Jessie learns her half sister, Hannah has been ubducted by Bolton Crutchfield. She knows on her first day back, she will be kept as far away from that case as possible, so she asks for help. Meanwhile, her and Ryan start on this case of Johns being murdered in hotel rooms. This case keeps throwing them into dead ends until Jessie can pull an idea together. As she finds and wraps up that case, she finally recieves the tip she needs to find Bolton and Hannah. When they get there, of course they split up and wind up stuck in the basement. Needless to say, it ends with quite a crazy twist. And now I cant wait to see where Jessie and Ryan go next.
REVIEW OF AUDIOBOOK; FEBRUARY 3, 2023 Narrator: Abigail Reno
I enjoyed this more than I expected to even if there wasn't any mystery to the killings. We know who the serial killer is as well as what is driving her. Nothing new here. There was a bit of regurgitation of what took place in the previous books but, thankfully, not as much as in the earlier book. I think the author just can't help herself and has to vomit up the back story.
Ryan is pretty useless in this book and, for now, not a worthy professional partner for Jessie who, to be honest, does fare very well for herself in this installment. I hope, if Ryan is going to be a fixture, he makes himself more useful.
Blake has written another great thrilling page turner of a book. Keeps the reader on the edge of the seat with baited breath waiting on where the killer is going next for the next victim. Jessie on the hunt for the killer trying to keep her mind away from another case she’s not allowed to help with. The book edges on a cliffhanger of an ending just to keep the reader on edge to wait until the next update on what will happen next for Jessie and Hannah. Keep up the great writing. I have received the book free and the review are my own personal thoughts
I’ve really loved this series so far. In this installment, Jesse is determine to find her half sister and Bolton Krutchfield. And her Hannah got a message to her quickly and swiftly - through a LinkedIn message that she sent through a victims phone. She was able to discreetly give an idea of where she was.
Aside from that development, Jesse solved a case involving another serial killer that was a prostitute. And her victims were drugged and strangled to death. It was cool to see how her and Ryan solved that case - pretty smart. Overall, another exciting read! 4 stars!
While the I liked the book - it was a bit predictable. Jessie Hunt working on a case (which was nothing exciting or unexpected as far as cases go) and then having a confrontation with Bolton Crutchfield was not a new concept in the series - I mean it's been cat and mouse since the first book, right? But overall, it was fast moving and somewhat entertaining. Looking for more character/relationship development all around in the next book and wondering where it will go now that Bolton is not an issue anymore.
The Perfect Look is book number six in the Jessie Hunt series. If you have made it this far, I strongly recommend you keep going. In my opinion, each book gets better and better. Though I have found some grammatical errors (which can drive me crazy) I believe the story line more than makes up for it.
In this book a man turns up dead in a hotel room in downtown LA after a night with a prostitute. No one really thinks much of it until what seems like an isolated case turns into a pattern. It soon becomes very clear that the prostitute is actually a serial killer who Jessie is determine to stop.
