It was one lucky mutation, lucky for the virus, that is. Unlucky for us. Of course, we weren't prepared for it. How does anyone prepare for a disease that can drive an entire species into extinction?

By the time it was truly understood what was happening, the hospitals were overrun, the virus was in the air, in the neighbor's veins, and it was already too late.

Except for those who would do anything to survive.

A bio is a weird thing to write.

Just trying to imagine presenting the highlights of ME sets off alarm bells in my head. Why would anybody want to know anything about me? What about me is remarkable enough to tell?

When I think about these questions, I recall lying on my bed back in high school, headphones muffed over my ears, heavy metal blasting through my head. As with most teens, music’s power seduced me, and as I listened, I found myself admiring the albums' cover art (yeah, I’m old enough that I used to by LP’s) and I found myself reading about the singers and guitar players and drummers in the liner notes. Why? Because those musicians had created something that was deeply personal, passionate, and wonderfully emotional, and they’d shared it with the world. They’d shared it with me.

It made me want to know them through more than just their music. So, I read.

Through the years, I found myself reading about writers I’d enjoyed, historical figures I’d admired, politicians who weren’t dipshits, and business leaders who’d built great companies. Again, why? Who the hell knows? We’re all just people. I think we find each other interesting. We like to feel connected.

And that was my answer, at least as to the WHY.

On the WHAT I can say about me, for those who feel moved by my work: I’ll give it a quick go.

I was born an Air Force brat and lived in a dozen states before I graduated high school. I’ve worked my way through a wide variety of jobs, left most on a whim, owned businesses, lived through times when I had more money than I knew what to do with, and worried my way through times when I wondered how I’d pay the rent.

Life has been boring at times, and it’s been plenty exciting, too. So far.

I’ve traveled to India, stood atop the tallest mountains around, swam with sharks, smarted-off to cops, and been arrested. I’ve tried beer and weed, but never made a thing of either one. I’ve been brushed too close by death a few times. Thankfully, doctors, EMT’s, and nurses were kind enough to put all the pieces together again. I've ridden my bike so deep into the mountains it felt like I was alone on the edge of heaven, and I've watched the red sun sinking on an evening so clear it looked like it was falling off the edge of the world.

I’ve always had a hard time being where I am, wherever that is. My daydreams forever call from just over the horizon.

I’ve been asked by a dozen bosses where I see myself in five years, and I've lied every time, always telling them what they wanted to hear. Because the only thing I knew for sure, was that I wanted to be anywhere but there.

Figures

Was about 20% through and the author was doing a pretty good job right up to the point that he put an Army nurse in charge, dumb. Main character had all the experience and the author had to go PC. Amazon must require authors to do this stuff, been seeing a lot in the books that come from them.

It was a good book.
I enjoyed the series.
The writing needs improvement. “She said”, “he said”, isn’t a professional writing style, it needs a bit finesse.
The banter needed improvement, at times I couldn’t find the Humor in it.
We also desperately needed a female bad ass slow burn, which the author delivered later on in an attempt I wanted to experience more of.
At times it was too much, too much in Zed’s head, too much running around with no particular goal, too less balanced down time to absorb the progress and struggles the characters faced. Especially at about 80% were I started to skip Zeds musings at times, for a while till the story picked up again.
The downtime where the characters reassembled themselves and took a deserved breather were always skipped and summarised, that was a downer. Because I felt they were needed for a healthy balance.
At times it was too fictional but still enjoyable.

The end was not satisfying for me at all. It was shortened and didn’t deliver the struggle Zed would have had.

The added novella opened up more questions and possibilities and was way too short to be satisfying again.

I hope we get some new material where they finally settle down in peace.

To be honest, I wouldn’t have read the series as it was released. The books would have been too short. It could have been easily put together as 4 complete books rather then 9 “books”. Fortunately the box set was an alternative.
Good start, lots of potential, needs more editing.
They were running aimlessly around for most of the complete story. Not that I didn’t enjoy it, I did very much. But for a complete storyline I need some temporary goals to look forward to, when the middle part is that long. The beginning was there, the middle was at times jumbled and seemed to have no end in sight without some achievements. And the deserving end was missing for me.

**Oh such wonderful chaos**

Note: This review is for the series as a whole and will only include little snippets of thoughts for the individual books. I posted more thorough thoughts for all 9 (and eventually the 10th) books on their designated pages. Also, since the bonus novella "Null Spot," doesn't have its own page on Goodreads, I've included that one's review here. For all my highlights and commentary, if you're even up to it, click here!

Anyways....this series was...WHOA. This was my first exposure to a full on zombie series, though I sense it won't be my last. What an insanely fast-paced, action-packed this series was. It was gruesome. Heartbreaking. Stressful. Absolute mayhem. It was definitely not for the faint of heart. I yelled at the book. I was scared for people. I was sad for people. I CRIED for people. See my notes and highlights for the variety of thoughts that floated through my head as I read. I just LOVED it.

Writing style is just to my liking, and the chapters all pick up where the previous one left off (thankfully). The aforementioned pace was astonishingly addictive, which is exactly why I couldn't put this damn series down. There's plenty of wonderfully realistic dialogue among the characters (who are omg, SO well-developed, I might add). It didn't take its time starting out, which is a risk without knowing characters, but you definitely learn about them as the story progresses on. This series rarely slows down and often beats the CRAP outta you as a reader.

You literally feel like you're part of the apocalypse too. And there's so. Much. GORE. Good grief, the gore. But alas, it's the proper sort of gore and violence you would expect from a zombie apocalypse. Might as well get used to it. Scenes are mostly easy to visualize, but there were times I did feel lost here and there simply because there's so much going on. I definitely like the unique feature of this series in that the virus isn't affecting everyone the same way, hence the title "Slow Burn," which is what happens to folks who have the virus but don't fully turn. Super intriguing.

Then as the series progresses on, you'll learn even MORE fun things about the zombies and the virus that sparked them. I adored, ADOOOORED the characters in this series, namely our main stars Zed and Murphy. They were, without a doubt, my FAVORITE feature of the entire series. Bobby Adair has done a fine job in bringing life to his characters. And there are plenty of them beyond Zed and Murphy. Though I gotta say, be careful who you get attached to. This is a zombie apocalypse after all. A well-developed one too. I think it'd make a mighty fine TV series or movie franchise.

If I had to complain about anything, aside from my aforementioned complaints, it's Bobby's aversion to using exclamation points for moments that warrant them. Too often characters are yelling, crying, or screaming and yet no exclamation points are present to really magnify the moment. This was evident in all books and though it didn't derail my enjoyment level, it was definitely a nagging nuisance.

Book 1: Zero Day - The virus arrives. And it doesn't do so quietly. The first few chapters are setting things up, so feel a bit slow, but it picks up speed quickly. I loved meeting Zed, Murphy, a smattering of other characters. Great development of the pending apocalypse. Tension throughout.

Book 2: Infected - The zombies are more than what they seem, and apparently, so are the regular humans. This entry does a fine job of exploring the infected and how they're looked upon, but doesn't at all slow down to do so. I. Love. MURPHY!

Book 3: Destroyer - Zed's on a rampage after the events of book 2. A literal destroyer, hence the title. Things go absolutely CRAZY in this one. Well, craziER, anyway. I can't blame the man, though, because book two's end was...UGH.

Book 4: Dead Fire - Breathers don't exist in the zombie apocalypse, apparently. Just when things SEEM to be at least KINDA working out, it all goes tumbling down. You really get a good taste of Zed's tenacity as well as his versatility this go-around.

Book 5: Torrent - As if dealing with zombie hordes isn't enough, now you've got mother nature wanting to throw her cards on the table too. Devastation all around in this book, a literal torrent of depressing things. Fitting title for sure.

Book 6: Bleed - Yeah. This title is the perfect description of what my heart did after getting through this one. By far the most devastating entry. There's no sugar-coating it. This is when I truly realized I was fully invested in all things apocalypse. I both loved and hated this one.

Book 7: City of Stin - A somewhat of a breather after the chaotic events of book 6. It almost feels weird to slow down, and even sorta felt "boring," (though not in bad way). Once Zed and Murphy carry on, they run into some VERY intriguing scenarios that I found myself eager to explore.

Book 8: Grind - My least favorite of all the entries because it took a turn into a direction I didn't want it to go. I get the circumstances, I truly do, but I didn't enjoy the consequences too much, not like I did for previous entries. There's still plenty of action though. And cool developments.

Book 9: Sanctum - The finish line at last. The final wrap-up to EVERYTHING that's been going on. Zed and Murphy carry on as only they know how to do. Fantastic surprises in this one. Loved the character moments, both new and old. A proper send-off to the series that left me VERY satisfied.

Null Spot Novella - I loved this little bonus entry to the entire series. Though of course, it did get me groaning in anger a bit. Because after only JUST finding the happiness from the final book of the series, something new happens here that legit made me think, "Omg come on, STOP IT ALREADY!" Though this novel is tiny compared to all the previous books, it still has ALL the ingredients that make it worthy of the same praise. Action. Heartache. Gore. This entry is essentially one big hurrah for Zed (Null-Spot), serving as a sort of "final" reminder of why he's the best at what he does and why he was so lovable as a character. He doesn't give up. EVER. He's got grit. Courage. Grind. And he fights tooth and nail to protect those he loves. I can never get tired of that. I would have loved this novella to be a little longer, considering the development it introduced in regards to the Whites (zombies). Perhaps book 10 will explore it? Guess I'll find out.

Boxed set

1, 2, 3, 4. Zero Day. Infected. Slow Burn. Dead Fire. Really good stories. This guys lives his life like he's Bruce Willis. The story was good. I liked how like a normal person Zed slowly figured out that not everyone should be helped. 5 stars.

5. Torrent. Something I don't understand, why would Murphy let a Why wouldn't he mention what he thought had occurred before and not after ? Doesn't make sense. The ending was sad. They're just too different. I think Murphy's idea for himself in the beginning of the series is a good one. I hope the series ends like that. 4 stars.

6. Bleed. Some people are just evil no matter what. I loved how Zed saved the day. 4 stars.

7. City of Stin. This book was really depressing. Zed and Murphy met some friends but the way this book is, they'll probably either turn out bad or die. 4 stars

8. Grind. 5 stars

9. Sanctum. Such a great ending! I'm about to read the novella at the end of the box set and I hope it doesn't ruin my good mood. 5 stars.

10. Null Spot. 3 years later and the world is surprising. I wish there would have been more details 4 stars.

My Thoughts:
At more than 55 hours long, this is not a short read.

If I was reading this series when it was first published, I would probably end up avoiding this author like the plague because the books were released like a year apart, mostly. So to come up to the cliffhanger endings and having to wait for a year for the next book would royally annoy me! Therefore, having bought this series in one big omnibus contributed greatly to my becoming a fan of this author and this series. Because really this series is just one big book. But an enjoyable read, none-the-less!

Now, of course, whenever I hear Phil Thron, I would automatically think Zed. Can't complain about his narration. It was done masterfully!

Highly recommended to all zombie fans!

I couldn't get into these books. Character development was lacking and decision making by most of the characters seemed questionable at best. I am a big fan of all types of post apocalyptic fiction and just didn't enjoy these. There were too many holes in the story and the flow just made everything and everyone seem kind of pointless. I was not invested in any of the characters.

Would be great as an audible!

First let's be up front it has taken me forever to read this series due to most is very dry and boring and there are some parts that are awesome. The one thing about this series you see there may be a person who looks and acts like a zombie but who is not. The series is about Murphy and Null Spot both caught the virus but did not turn into flesh eating zombie but still like zombies. This their life story, adventures and the death of so many friends and love ones. Also a story of what might happen if a virus could turn people into zombies how day to day would be like to survive, find food and a safe place to sleep to survive both zombies and person or persons who want to take control and try to build a small kingdom or states and rules as they think is right or try to help other survive. Most of the characters were good but the biggest problems with the characters they were flat no life and come and go way to fast for you as a reader to get a feeling for them or add to the story to point the story just went dead and for me it made the story hard to read.
Now this is my review but I would I recommend the series because it show another side of a zombie storyline.

Slow Burn - Thrilling Read!

I read the entire box set in less than ten days. This author proves how Indie authors can deliver raw, but polished and well-written stories that didn’t stem from a privileged seat of disconnection from the masses. Adair never forgets his readers. He connects with us at ground-level and takes us on wild trips. If you’re a Texan, you’ll especially love this author’s dedication to this state as the setting for his characters’ movement.

I Loved every book in this series, and it wasn’t my usual post-apocalyptic kind of selection, but the characters were real; the dialogue very true to life; the circumstances wild but perfect for this dystopian existence; and the goals of the characters kept me moving forward with their every step.

This story is not just about survival and a compulsion to make a positive difference in a world gone awry, it has deep undertones of what friendship and “new family” means when you’re no longer around those who share your DNA. The virus inducts the friends into another odd shared quality where traditional skin color differences no longer matter. They show what it means to stick with the ones you love while accepting each other’s quirks... loyalty matters.

This series leaves you feeling as if you’d like to know more. A desire to go deeper into the lives of those you have grown to know and love is rooted, and I am thrilled to have gone onto Bobby Adair’s Facebook page to see he is writing books 11 and 12. I can’t wait! Both Zed and Murphy are chilling in the recesses of my mind until I can pick up the new additions to the series and let them get back to being a flawed Batman and Robin in their altered world. What adventures, danger, and good times are next?

Bobby Adair is now on the list as one of my fav authors.

I do like post apocalyptic stories, they entertain me in a strange kind of way. Most of them will not be front running for a literary Nobel price (some, if not most of them can rarely be called "literature") but they do spin a good yarn.

Since I got through the whole box set of the slow burn stories, you'll be able to deduce that I did like this story.

It put a very nice twist on the genre, with different virus infected versions of people to avoid (not spoiling).

They main characters are enjoyable, the reader starts caring for them and the adventures do take you on a joyride.

Why then only three stars?
The "we avoid or flee the bad monsters" and "we scavange for stuff" parts are described in so much detail that I currently feel like I know every house in the greater Austin area in texas. And I'm from Europe.
It does not add anything to the story but just gets boring. I started flipping through most of the descriptions and continued when there was dialogue again.

By the way, the dialogues are great parts. Very enjoyable.
They make you like the characters and give insights in the motivation of their actions. Much more then the repetitive self musing of the main character zed. Like above it gets boring, does not add any depth and I started flipping through.

That being said: If you are like me, enjoying some good hide and seek, survival story with a twist of virus infection and action than this is for you. The dialogues are great, the adventures add a new twist to the genre as well as the heroes and the monsters.

Really a good series. I had read books 1 through 8 before, but for $.99 I received those and books 8 & 9 to read. This is my favorite series by Bobby Adair. I like the characters and the story line keeps you interested. For fans of the series there is a big surprise in book 9 that I didn't expect. Zed Zane and Murphy continue to get into some tight spots, but "Null Spot the destroyer" always comes through to save the day. In these last books Zed and Murphy have to deal with both the Naked Horde and the Survivor Army and finally get to set off to discover what's in Balamora.

If you like Zombie survival stories you will like this series as it it more realistic. The Zombies are not dead, they're infected with a virus that makes them act like Zombies. Some people are infected indifferent degrees. Zed and Murphy have the virus, but it didn't make them crazy, just turned their skin white so they look like the other infected. That causes problems because uninfected people think they are a danger and are prone to shoot at them. It also gives them a way to survive in the infected world as they can go among the infected and not be attacked as long as they don't act as normal people.

Zed and Murphy by trial and error learn to survive in this new world and develop friendship and alliances with other survivors to hopefully continue the human race.

So I finished the series yesterday. It was very compelling reading. I read it every spare moment I had, caught up in the momentum of the story (and every spare moment I didn't have). I read it at the bus stop, I read it on the bus (and I get bus sick so ..), I read it before I went to sleep (and only got to sleep at three that morning because sleep overtook me, not because I had finished reading. The book reached out, dragged me in and wouldn't let me go until the end, and even then the end raised more questions. And I am not a zombie book reader as a genre but I read a bit of it through Amazon's "look inside" and I was hooked. And while there were zombies, they were the catalyst, not the sum of the book. So if you aren't a zombie book reader, don't let that put you off, and if you are, well there are plenty of zombies so you'll be fine too. A thoroughly good read. Sandra

If I could give this zero stars I would. These books are slow, repetitive, and so boring. To call them misogynistic doesn't cover how poorly the female characters are written. There are so many plot holes and plot points that are never resolved. The characters are flat stereotypes that never develop or learn from their mistakes.

A side note: I listened to these on audible and the narrator was just terrible. He talked so slow that I listened at 2x speed and it sounded fine.

Interesting take on "zombies" and a fun post-apocalyptic read

TLDR; If you like post-apocalyptic stories focused on action, fighting, and survival techniques, then you'll like this series.

I enjoyed the heck out of this entire series. Years ago, I got the first installment of this series in some random zombie box set I bought. I enjoyed it so much that I got the entire Slow Burn box set and read it every chance I got.

Bobby Adair's take on the zombie virus is different and interesting. He gave the infected humans a whole range of aggression and brain function which give a great sense of suspense to every interaction Zed had with Whites.

Personally, my favorite part of post-apocalyptic stories is learning how the survivors adapt to the new world and plan for long-term survival. I like seeing the author's opinion on what works and what doesn't, what's necessary and what's a luxury, how to account for surprised and unexpected events, etc. There is a lot of that in this series along with plenty of action, internal monologues where Zed battles with his own demons, and funny dialogue between all of the characters.

There were some scenes that I would have loved an in-depth, scientific exploration and explanation, but I can appreciate that it wasn't given because Zed isn't a doctor or a scientist and it wouldn't make sense if he suddenly figured out an explanation for everything. It leaves a little mystery in the universe where I can fill in my own theories and speculation.

Bobby Adair's #1 fan!!!

Definitely deserves 5 stars. I read constantly, every day, and hated to get to the end.

Zed was severely mistreated by his parents who beleived in "spare the rod/spoil the child" to the MAX. He had a few guys he hung out with, but no real friends or love interests. He got the virus and nearly died. After recovering, he met Murphy who would have died without Zed's care. They became like close brothers having each other's back when the fight to survive began. People lost all pigment after having getting the virus, including Zed and Murphy.

There are millions of zombies, with varying degrees of mental disability, some severely impaired. They ran in packs some ten thousand or more with an Alpha leader. Some zombies were docile with the ability to follow basic instructions and mimic anything.

When bitten a human either died or became a zombie, called a White. As these books progressed some of tje were naturally immune, they found a few others like themselve, scavanged for food and anything else they needed.

The only real drawback for me was a lot of things would happen but were never explained. Like the further they got from strangest thing was civilization

Rarely have I torn through a series of nine books so quickly! Bobby Adair has created a world in which two unrelated, unprepared misfits contract a virus that has swept the globe, turning most people who contract it into mindless zombies and others into ruthless psychopaths but these two, inextricably survive, turning back into themselves, only paler. Zed and Murphy form a friendship that survives against all odds as they learn to navigate the apocalypse and find themselves actually thriving, mostly because they adapt to their circumstances and help each other.
There are other characters who come and go. Murphy s actually meets a woman, another survivor, and has a relationship with her. This is another thing that sets this series apart from other zombie apocalypse stories that mostly feature groups of men, military or not, who see women as helpless 2-D characters or threats to their survival. Zed and Murphy have female friends and enemies, their relationships evolve over the course of the series and, through nine books, I was constantly surprised by plot twists and new scenarios. Best post apocalypse series I’ve read since Edward W. Robinson’s The Breakers Omnibus, which I also highly recommend.

Spellbinding wall to wall action

iIcould not put down this over its entire first half. The hand to hand combat was exceptionally well written. The author brought an incredible amount of expertise in many areas to this novel: medicine, epidemiology, military tactics, survival skills, psychology and human group dynamics, to name a few.

It is a very fresh and intellectual approach to the zombie genre, which otherwise has gotten tired and, to be blunt, mindless. I certainly would have rated it five stars save for the fact that it was too long. I felt the plot and action bogged down in the second half. A couple of small things: there were some grammatical errors. Several dangling participles, misuse of whoever/whomever, and the use of “shined” when “ shone” was the correct word.

I loved the relationship drawn between Zed and Steph. It was beautifully done, especially without stooping to the usual erotic interludes. The relationship with Murphy was beautifully done. So too, with Zed’s self-examination regarding his exhilaration with killing the whites. Kudos!

I am biased about this book. That's because this book was my first Zombie survival series. That said, while the first couple of books were great, the last few were alright. The story starts off extremely strong. The main character's flaws are wide open and slightly unbelievable, but if you can get over that, then the story is fine. In the middle, the story gets pretty repetitive. However, the author realizes this and somewhat quickly rushes through these scenes. Several overarching plot points are introduced, and the story regains its pace and engagement. The ending was a little bit of a let down as the author decided to give every major character the plot armor of tank, but it was epic anyway so I'm not too mad.
The reasoning behind the zombie apocalypse seems solid. I guess. However, the author made several mistakes with the weapons that the main character handles. These were fixed in the sequels, with explanations (which feel tacked on last minute) that explained why the main character could somehow shoot accurately with little to no training with a gun.

I NEED the Second Saga!

This was a great series, just full of useful info., adrenaline, real emotion, and shocking, boiled down survivor mentality & intuition. My favorite character was resilient & loyal Murphy as well as Steph& Grace. Zed is complex, damaged, brave & heroic. He is difficult to take sometimes but still you find yourself rooting for him to survive, develop emotionally & find some peace, safety & a good woman that will shave off some of his agitating qualities. I would LOVE to see him develop into a caring & more optimistic partner, friend, dad? I want he & the main characters to prevail, find a safe area to make their own & learn how they pioneer their way towards making a functioning community. We ALL wonder HOW we could do that….. solve simple plumbing, sewage issues while farming, & how to build pumps, mills, generators, etc. Please show me the progression 5 yrs. Out w/o “whites” as the primary concern. Also, a big nod to your proofreaders! Nary an error 😅 Can’t wait to read more….

. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I’ll say that I’m liking it so far. This is a Zombie series and of course, the highly contagious virus develops in Africa but this virus behaves a bit differently. When you get the virus, you don’t automatically turn all zombie; you get a fever which, in most cases fries your brain and those people are irrevocably changed. Some people who get the virus only get a low-grade fever and keep their mental faculties; these people are the “slow burn” group.
For being nine books long, I think it was a smooth, fast read/listen.

I am glad it is offered as a box set because, each book is more like a short story and one book flows into the next. the first book, Zed gets bitten and gets nfected he then gets arrested for the deaths. In jail he meets a couple other guys that have been infected by the virus but they are “normal” except for that low-grade fever. The jail erupts in chaos and Zed along with a couple other get free and head out to find what they find. The whole series is nonstop action with a bit of humor mixed in.

Great Series by Bobby Adair! Kept me going!!!

Very good! I really liked how he kept the characters constantly on watch and moving from danger and suspected danger. At times it felt like it dragged along a wee bit, but then if you think of the situation, you need that little bit of a drag, or else you'd be placing your characters in a "super human" position & making the story far less believable.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book & thought it to be VERY believable. There is extreme language & gore throughout the series; it IS an end of the world type genre, therefore I would NOT recommend it for young adults or youth unless they are mature enough to handle the language & gore. However; I thoroughly enjoyed it with the exception of the ending. It wasn't bad, I just felt as though it was rushed. Almost as if the author was saying "whew! Finally got them safely there, DONE."

On audible as I write this. All 9 books of the series. Nearly 60 hours of intense, funny, mysterious, sad, dark and beautiful audio for you to listen to. 1 token (or coin or credit or whatever it’s called).

This is a steal. Honestly, the voice actor does a great job, the author paints an incredible picture so it’s easy to imagine, and the story is progressive. I didn’t get bored. No crazy story arch that takes 2 books to complete. It’s linear and keeps its pace at a fast jog for 60 hours.

Please give it a go. This is hands-down my favorite zombie series to date, and probably some of the best writing I’ve heard in a long time.

Be advised, if you’re a veteran like I am, there will be a few mispronunciations here and there, namely common acronyms. With that said, Bobby did a great job researching equipment, tactics, and weapons. The little inaccuracies are nearly void and do not hurt the story.

Please read. It’s worth it. With all my love :)

A good long read/ listen.

I love it when a series reading/listening time is more than 20 hours. That means I have plenty of time to get to know the characters and for that plot to get nice and involved. For you to learn to hate the character you once liked and like the character you want hated. For plot twists and the trajectory of the story to change directions. Given the length of this box set, it had all of this and more. Plus it was a story that had infected (zombies but not). All of my favorite things together. There was plenty of time for the story to evolve and change, and for our protagonist to grow. If you want an end of the world book set that isn’t your typical zombie shuffling around groaning “brains,” then give this a go. Definitely a lot of bang for your buck.
I’m now following Bobby Adair on Amazon and downloading Dusty’s Diary.

Over two thousand pages of ball busting action and levity.

I just want to be entertained and for the past few years, I've been getting that from books instead of television or movies. And few books have kept me entertained, nay, enthralled as this book did. The action is non stop. The humor, all over the place. You will cry, laugh, yell, pout, cuss and more. But most of all, you will not be able to put this book down. My tablet has made dozens of trips into my porcelain throne room it's that good. Don't get attached to characters. They will most likely die. And a few survive. One particular person was left behind dead only to show up unexpectedly. Good thing for the author as I was less than thrilled and about to TP his house over that death. But the character made it. The TP will have to wait for later. LOL Yes, this book is recommended for adrenaline junkies.

Did not believe it would be this good… glad I was wrong

I don’t know what I was thinking when I saw this book come up with over 10,000 five star reviews. I thought maybe it would be good. Maybe it would be fun to read. It was actually really good. I normally go for LitRPG but I wanted something that would last. (More than just one book) And I wanted something that was completed. So I thought I would give this box set a try. The price was right. It turned out great… but be warned there are some gruesome sections in this series. If this had really happened in real life (like COVID), the infected would probably not have been so resilient… that would be one of the stretches in truth in this make believe story… I do have to complement the author for creating characters with depth. Cheers!

Different kind of apocalypse ride

I got so caught up in this story, I felt as though I'd jumped into the narrative and was along for the duration, and I was, just that easily. I loved the writing, found myself laughing out loud, the humor was infectious and a nice addition to a tense subject matter.
I agreed with so many points of view concerning life and the world we live in today, I found it uncanny.
Especially given the covid virus status, the behavior it brings and ironically a story that includes comparable philosophy.
"It was just an observation, not a judgment ... we're humans, it's just the way the human brain works ... like me equals good, different equals bad."
It's not judging, it's knee jerk reaction, and then we find an equal footing, get over yourself.

Tip top!! Bravo to the author !

I was at first a little skeptical of some of the reviews giving their opinions of this book. Mainly because of the cover pictures on each book. Theres nothing too wrong with them but it just made me think this story was just a run of the mill post apocalyptic type. But it is far from it! It had everything, the main characters are flawed like you should expect in a story of this kind. They go from dark despair, heroic feelings, self reflection and feelings of doubt that effect every decision that they make. Still there author made room for love , hate and redemption. The two main characters are as fleshed out as any in any story I’ve ever read. This is the kind of story you wish would never end, and that says alot.

Writing is, in a sense, somewhat like singing. Some of us are better at it than others. You know what I mean. When you hear someone who's particularly gifted, you marvel at how easily the tune unfolds making it enjoyable to listen to. The same with writing. For some the prose effortlessly flows. The story easily unfolds bringing you in to the world the writer creates and you want to continue to see what happens next. You are caught in the action and reluctant to stop. Such is the writing of Mr. Adair. I spent many happy hours reading this book and recommend it to those who enjoy apocalyptic escapism such as this. Good writing crosses all genres. It glues you to the page and compels you to turn them and continue. Put the kettle on and settle in.
