Detective Alexandra Connolly must keep a murder victim's daughter, Kara, alive long enough to solve the case. Fistfights, shootouts, lust, and... lesbians?! Fast-paced, funny, and sexy as hell!
TT Banks enjoys spending time with her wife and furry family – not writing this bio – the fact is, she’d rather be doing anything other than writing in the 3rd person about herself. She writes books – this shouldn’t come as a surprise to you – you’re currently reading her author bio – so there’s that. She writes funny, quirky – sometimes nerve-racking – always sexy lesbian fiction novels. She taught middle school math for one terrifying year and has since been a successful entrepreneur. She needed an outlet for her creative, goofy, slightly dark side – and that’s what you’ll find in her books.
So...the synopsis hooked me into reading this book. And at first I was kind of into it until I just wasn't anymore. If the story was told in first person by Alex I could maybe enjoy it more but her inner constant dialogue drove me insane and more than once I kept skipping over it because it felt unnecessary. Also, as action packed as the story is, which it really is, I found hard to believe that a murder, a parking lot beating, a mob meeting, and shoot out in a building could happen in less than 48 hours and it not be a big deal. Don't worry, I didn't give away anything with that statement, promise. Despite all that I pushed though and finished the story. It was just a little too far fetched for me. Not my cup if tea or style of story telling but I will agree with most, it was very very fast paced.
Amusing at times, don't get me wrong but it quickly went into more farcical action over any real substance, and it lost me. The fact that an actual detective was doing things wayyy against protocols (I know, it's the title!) just had me unable to believe in it, plus her immature internal monologue was kinda annoying - plus the romance is literally insta-lust.
Love this book! I usually read sappy romance novels, but I love that this had that and more. Fast paced, action, and romance all in one. I was on the edge of my seat towards the end (no spoilers here ;) ) Great work TT Banks, look forward to the next one!
Excellent book! Fast paced and great characters. While I did have the plot figured out, it was still a wonderful book. I enjoyed it and look forward to reading book two when it comes out.
I JUST finished this and I'm still singing with exhilaration. What a fantastic story! I enjoyed the chemistry between the two characters, and their tension was off the charts. The action was believable and nail-biting, and the pacing of the story was just right.
The thing I most appreciated was how the author was able to create authentic, personable characters. I loved that the protagonist was smart, witty, and strong, yet also someone who made mistakes and had raw, conflicting emotions. You can tell that the author is keenly aware of the way people are in real life when no one is looking, and I appreciated that realism. It made the book far more attractive and readable in my eyes.
I am so very much looking forward to more books by this author. 💕
Breaking Protocol is the story I didn’t know I needed in my life until now. Witty, exciting, sexy, and filled with twists and turns, I couldn’t put this book down!
Featuring Alex, a detective who finds herself in over her head when she lands a case with a gorgeous witness that seems to attract trouble like a moth to flame, the action starts from page one and doesn’t let up.
Told through Alex’s POV, which was humorous and relatable, I loved watching her both solve the case and fall in love at the same time.
This was an incredible book and I’ll definitely be reading more from this author ASAP!
I'm not a general fan of thrillers, but I picked up 'Breaking Protocol' and found it to be an entertaining book. The humor TT Banks wove gave the story more of an action/adventure movie feel, rather than a hardcore drama. Banks uses current common vernacular which connected me with the characters early on. For a thriller non-reader, this was what kept me reading because if you can make me laugh, I'm hooked.
'Breaking Protocol' is a wonderful read for someone who wants to snigger, fall in love, or have a good guy/bad guy adventure.
Good story and read. There are some interesting Characters in this with dangerous villians, murders environmental and more. The author TT Banks did a good job writing this but the ending could have been better. This was why only gave it 4* stars but will recommend you give it a chance..
This book is outside of my usual favorite genres, but I thoroughly enjoyed the fast plot and the chemistry between Alex and Kara. I could feel the heat wafting off the pages, and I say this as a straight person. Alex and Kara aren't supposed to fall in love because Alex is the cop and Kara is related to a crime victim. Right away, Alex is breaking protocol, hence the book's title.
The protagonist's narrative style reminds me a bit of Dexter in the TV show Dexter without all of the sociopath/serial killer stuff. In other words, Alex can be sarcastic, methodical, but also slightly self destructive at times. I hope this comparison makes sense. Anyhow, there's also a cat named Dexter in the book, so perhaps that's where that idea came from. Anyhow, it's a fun read, and I'll continue in this series.
Playful, intriguing, and exciting – Breaking Protocol is a thoroughly enjoyable read. Banks weaves a suspenseful story with corruption, self-doubt, and new found love. The characters come alive with insightfully natural dialogue and playful banter. Their fears and hopes seem so true to life that the reader can fully relate. Banks is a natural at character development and the plot keeps the reader on edge. I would love to see Breaking Protocol as a Netflix series so that I could binge watch it! For a rollercoaster of thrilling excitement, read Breaking Protocol.
Break all the protocols! Just Alex and Just Kara. I usually try and avoid cliches when I write these reviews. “Couldn’t put it down” “finished in one sitting.” Sometimes the cliches are true. This is action packed, funny, charming! I was engaged and had to race to ending! The chapter titles are so great to! Lots of extra effort in the formatting and presentation. Highly enjoyable! Can’t wait to get to the next two!
Love and lust at first sight doesn't slow down the bad guys, the shoot outs. Even with the dangerous investigation, the humorous repartee flows smoothly.
Suspenseful, mysterious, and breathtaking — a heart-pounding thriller!
BREAKING PROTOCOL by TT Banks (TTBanks5) is a lesbian crime fiction that centers on the romantic tension between Alex, a detective, and Kara, her witness/possible suspect. The murder of Kara’s father brings the two together in a passionate, yet forbidden, love that forces Alex to break all protocols.
This book is frisky and sportive, sexy and stirring, reminiscent of Lethal Weapon. It’s action-packed with a kinetic pace, twists and turns, violence and corruption. The fiery attraction between Alex and Kara manifests in brilliant repartee. I LOVED Alex’s sharp and witty inner monologue. Both characters are absolute bosses — strong, smart, funny, and relatable.
I lost myself in this story and more than once forgot the time. I HIGHLY recommend BREAKING PROTOCOL for fans of LGBT fiction, crime fiction, and mysteries/thrillers.
Tonight I couldn't put down @TTBanks5 Breaking Protocol. Usually I prefer movies or, I read nonfiction. Being gay, I visit straight places all the time, so to delve into this book was a great escape & one that I truly enjoyed. Well written, I thought, with fun, passion & suspense
I hope to read more books by this author. TT Banks had written a romance and detective story that is not only amusing at times, but covers some interesting sexual relationship issues. I am not going to tell you and spoil the book. I will say that she had me hooked from the start. Keep writing, please.
This book was a real page turner. The characters drew me in straight from the beginning, and I loved the angst and build of sexual tension between Alex and Kara. The story itself was fast paced and full of suspense. Well worth reading.
Instant attraction. Being in law enforcement I had a hard time with how quickly the character was willing to “break protocol”. The story had a few twists and was good.
Breaking Protocol is a solid detective novel with an entertaining main character. I enjoyed the development of the relationship between Kara and Alex. The main plot was functional, but I found the characters to be the strongest aspect of the novel.
Really enjoyed reading book. The banter between the two womyn was fun, but so frustrating at times when they got so close to making love, then stop. Not sure my resolve would hold up. The crime plot was good, though a bit confusing at times, but a good read.
I honestly could kiss the author. Full of drama. Character inner dialogue is superb. Now if there was more to this story I am going to read it. Can’t wait for the next book!
When she sees Kara at the scene of her father’s death, policewoman Alex feels immediately drawn to her.
Despite the conflict between their personal feelings and the case, the two become drawn into a fast paced investigation which leads all the way to the top.
This was a cute romance story with a splash of thriller. Great fun.
