Three very different sisters discover that life doesn't always turn out as one would expect in this powerful romantic drama.
Heart's Ease is the loveliest house anyone knows and home to the fortunate Blyth family. Siblings Felicity, Charity, Honor and Bruno enjoy a blissfully happy childhood there before life pulls them in very different directions.
Beautiful Felicity gains her handsome husband, delightful children and elegant London house, but all is far from perfect ... Charity, the clever one, lives for her work, with no time for emotional involvement, until the least romantic of meetings rocks her world... Sweet, homely Honor is devoted entirely to others, but dreams of a life of her own ... And Bruno, the indulged baby of the family, flies the nest only to find that independence may be tough ...
The sanctuary of a beloved childhood home can't last forever. But the legacy of Heart's Ease lives on in the Blyth family's grown-up fulfilment and happiness.
I can’t praise this book highly enough. Its characterisation is outstanding and the imagery superb. It’s intelligently written and perceptive, which is this author’s signature. There's such a warmth which makes it a relaxing read. What a delightful family in a much-coveted home. The children are growing up and determining their various futures. The only thing I found a little disconcerting was the over-use of pronouns instead of names, which forced me to backtrack to figure out who was doing what and speaking in the middle part mainly. The style of writing appeared to change at that point. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this condensed family saga, but the ending was abrupt with a few loose ends. Does that mean there will be a sequel? Thank you to NetGalley and Severn House. Not published until November and there's a festive cheer about it.
Heart's Ease is a beautiful house set in the English countryside which is home to the Blyth family. A family comprising of 4 children, 3 daughters and one late in life son who are as different as can be. As any family there are problems and shortcomings. At first I found this family very annoying, the parents seemed aloof and too concerned with their own lives and the two older girls were totally into their own lives. There didn't seem to be much love between any of the siblings and this all seems to change one Christmas when the parents and son are invited to one daughter's house in London and the other siblings must fend for themselves.
Hearts ease is the family home of the Blyth family. The story starts with the sisters awaiting the birth of their new brother and follows the siblings into adulthood. Some parts of the story dragged for me. I kept waiting for something grand or bad to happen but it never did. I liked the book, especially the beginning. I received a copy of this arc in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Family Drama – Women's Fiction This was a tedious book to read. I kept waiting for the meat of the story and never found it. The set-up for the story is good. I never discovered a true plot. I suppose that the plot could be that life never turns out how you expect. I was intrigued by the author's rhythm. I just felt that it never went anywhere. I received this ARC book for free from Net Galley and this is my honest review.
