Dorothy McLean went to gather the school’s mail, as usual, hoping to see the handsome station master, Eldon Lukeson. But, seeing the crowd of crying children on the depot platform stopped her cold. The orphans’ elderly guardian had passed away, and Eldon struggled to lead the children. In an instant, she jumped at the chance to help him wrangle the orphans into an orderly group.
A man too shy to declare his love…
With no adoption agent and neither Eldon nor Dorothy having living quarters large enough for all of the children, they invent a plan. They, adults and children, would all live in the depot until a new escort arrives. As Eldon shares his house and stationkeeping duties with Dorothy, he finds leading a family is more enjoyable with her lovely smile and sunny nature.
Once the children continue to their new homes, can either of the adults move on as well?
Eldon and Dorothy's story is sweet and unexpected. I thoroughly enjoyed the variety of characters in this fun story in The American West Series. Laura Stapleton never disappoints in her fabulous work.
I like these type of stories: clean, interesting, good story line. Would prefer them to be a bit deeper and longer, but apart from that, good. I liked Eldon & Dorothy's story. I especially liked her stories for the children. A rather sudden but good ending.
The summary is sorta incorrect and the writing seems very basic. Somehow this story seems set in many different eras and locations based on character interactions and morality. Very clean book and not really surprising at all.
Eldon and Dorothy know each for years, they being in love, but stay quiet about it, thinking that the other half needs someone better... ah! When seven orphans get alone in the train station, Eldon needs to take care of them until someone can pick them up. When Dorothy sees the children she steps up to help and her mother and helper too. Is there When things got interesting, knowing each other a new side that brings them together, but not everyone is happy. Find out how they trying to know each other and the misunderstanding they need to clarifying. Can love one another be enough?
I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet romance story. While the couple was engaging, the interaction with the kids and the agents from the orphanage are what propels their story.
