Reckless is the first book in Vi Carter’s Wild Irish series. Ms. Carter introduces her readers to the O’Reagan clan from the patriarch to all his children. I found it interesting that the first book focuses on Finn O’Reagan, one of a pair of twins. In it she sets the framework for her readers to meet the male members of the O’Reagans as her secondary characters. Destiny brings Finn a romantic interest in Siobhan Walsh. She returns home for her father’s wake. She inherits her father’s farm. The O’Reagans want it. The patriarch sends Finn and Darragh to give her an offer. Finn is irritated at the timing--the night of the wake. Darragh is commissioned to make the offer and he is rude, insensitive, and arrogant. Finn is more polished. He is attracted to Siobhan, and she is to him. Will they act on their physical and emotional attraction? Do the O’Reagans get the property? You must read this book to find out.
Ms. Carter does a remarkable job creating unlikeable characters as she does with some of the O’Reagan brothers. In so doing, she somehow gets her readers invested in them. I wasn’t sure how I felt about Finn, but, as the story progressed my feelings changed toward him. It ranged from disgust to liking and then to not liking. I do like how instead of using an epilogue, she uses the last chapter to introduce the next book in the series. She does not present the ending of Finn and Siobhan romantic journey in a HEA, instead, she leads readers to witness its progression as secondary characters in future installments. This is a neat strategy to hook her readers.
