A Sweet Alaskan Fall

Rate this book
A split-second decision could change both their lives for the better…if they let it.

Montana Banks has returned to Wild River, Alaska, for a fresh start. Adventure has always been in her blood, but while an injury leaves her unable to participate in her favorite extreme sports, Montana settles for teaching base-jumping classes at her friend’s tour company. Settling in has been almost too easy: a great job, her family’s acceptance and her own apartment—right next door to straitlaced police officer Eddie Sanders.

Eddie has always had feelings for Montana, and now that he’s leaving for a new job in Anchorage he wonders if he should’ve taken a chance with her sooner. Then a moment of violence the night of his going-away party leaves him badly wounded. Seeing Eddie’s job opportunity lost and self-confidence following close behind, Montana is determined to show him all the reasons he has to pick himself up again.

Look, this book has a naked sky diving scene and that was when I tapped out. I just finished the book to just be done with it, but honestly. Naked, sky diving. It was so absurd I couldn't even work up any outrage about it. It didn't help that this book had way too many things going on plot wise. Snow should just focus on one main line for her books to follow. At times I thought she was playing around with a romantic thriller/suspense book. It just didn't work and it didn't help matters any when we had two people give up what they had been talking about all book long cause of love. Sigh. It just annoyed me since there were legitimate ways to work around their professional/personal stuff. But I guess that's not romantic enough or something.

"A Sweet Alaskan Fall" follows Montana Banks. Readers met her in book #2, Tank's ex and mother of their daughter 10 year old daughter, Kaia. Montana suffered an accident doing a base jump a few months after Kaia was born. The injury that resulted left her having memory issues and unable to take care of Kaia. Ten years later, Montana is determined to be a part of her daughter's life and moves to Wild River. She's now co-running an adventure business with Tank's current girlfriend Cassie (yeah, I know). Montana should be content, but instead still has the same need for adrenaline. Dating an Olympic hopeful should be enough to get her blood going, but she's starting to realize that relationship is treading water. However, she starts to think about romance after she realizes that her next door neighbor, Eddie Sanders is looking really good to her. Eddie though has other things besides Montana on his mind. Eddie is hoping for a transfer to a drug unit so he can live Wild River and work "real cases." However, an accident changes things and has Eddie and Montana getting closer.

Ehhh. Look, I wasn't a Montana fan in book #2. As readers said, it's a lot to get used to the fact that she checked out of her daughter's life for 10 years. And the reasoning behind it still doesn't make sense. It also started to annoy me that she didn't get basic things, such as letting her 10 year old ride a motorcycle was not a smart idea. I just felt tired by Montana for most of this book. She really didn't have feeling for Eddie until the story made her have them. I honestly didn't get much chemistry between the two of them. It didn't help that the book then just kind of fast forwards them getting together I thought.

Eddie, ehh. He's okay. I just think the book should have paired him up with someone else. I found myself more interested in his mother and sisters than him which is a shame.

I also think that Snow wrote Kaia way too old for her age. She's 10 and a few times I went, why is she writing her like at 15/16 year old teenager? I also think the plot she was involved with didn't make a lick of sense again for someone her age.

Speaking of plot, I think that Snow had way too much going on here. We have Montana wanting to take an experimental drug cause that could help her with her memories and also prevent her from going into the fugue states that make it that she can't base jump anymore. Eddie wants a promotion and to move an hour away from Wild River. And oh yeah, we have Montana's current/ex Olympic man friend. And oh yeah, we have a drug set-up going on in town. There's also the other curveball that happened in this story too (no spoilers). I just felt very overstuffed at the end of this book.

The ending is a HEA, but as I said above, I just rolled my eyes.

A Sweet Alaskan Fall was such a sweet installment. I will be honest I grabbed this one up because it has such a nice fall looking cover and was looking for some autumnesque reads for the season. I also wanted to do a second try at a Jennifer Snow. While I enjoyed this, it still had some problematic aspects that did keep this from a 5 star read. I will say that the major aspects of the story were really well done from the character building to the development of the romance and the sexy times were much steamier than I expected from this author (definitely plus in my book). I will say that there were some elements that felt unbelievable at times. There is an element of nude skydiving, I am not sure if thats a thing haha but I am not sure why it would be. I mean (ouch) but its fiction so you just go with the flow. And it does have ghosts in this book, it doesn't deliver on a creepy vibe or anything, but kinda weird as you don't go into this type of contemporary expecting a ghost element to the story. The other issue I had was with the heroine. I am probably the only one with this issue, as I couldn't see this in other reviews, however, I really struggled in seeing why this heroine didn't break things off with a guy she wasn't interested in especially when she was really into someone else. Or why she didn't stand up for herself or who she wanted to be with. I really felt bad for the hero in this one who was so a good hearted man, and he deserved to be treated right and just wasn't and quite frankly way too forigiving on the heroine who hardly had to grovel and she needed to do more sincere groveling. Now that being said, there are some other great elements to the story. I really enjoyed the fall themed aspect to the story, I loved seeing the disability come into play and how it developed the story, the romance for the most part was solid in how it conveyed really strong emotion. I also liked seeing the family aspect to the story. The audio narrator was done very well and I would like to listen to more of this author's work. Overall a solid story despite its negative aspects.

Montana is a adrenaline junkie, but after a accident she had to give it up. Even her kid. Yes that was pretty heartbreaking. Her brain took a hit that sometimes she just has these blackouts, so she spent 10 years with her parents instead.

Now she is back, starting a new career, getting to know her kid. It also seems I missed some drama in the previous book when she came back to her ex and his new girlfriend. Maybe for the best . I still do not understand the whole giving up for 10 years, I mean couldn't she have lived in the same city and had visits with her daughter that were supervised?

Anyway she is back, building a life. Trying to connect with her hunky neighbor Eddie.

But then there is some drama, and Eddie is hurt. I liked Eddie, he was such a good man, and now his life is totally different because of an act of violence.

Sweet story.

Good narrator. I liked her voices and she set a nice pace and tone to the story

Loved the romance and familiar characters! My only minor quibble is that Kaia was really way too young for the issues they had her dealing with - that part just pulled me out of the story a bit.

Oh boy, can we say it's complicated.

Montana is a former athlete. A brain injury after a Base-jumping accident put an end to her career. But when memory loss put her baby's life in danger, it made her decided to stay away for her safety. Ten years later, Montana is doing better and she's back in Wild River and wants to reunite with her daughter. Fortunately, she's on good term with her ex and even became friends and started a new business with his girlfriend, who was a mother figure to her little girl when she couldn't be there.

Montana is not searching for a serious relationship, but she wouldn't mind dating again. Her friends are always teasing her about the cop next-door and there's definitively mutual attraction there, but he's starting a new job soon in another town. But when tragedy strike, Montana will be there to remind him there are still great things waiting for him.

I’d say 3.5 stars.

I thought this book was sweet and spicy 🥵 definitely a tad of those fall/Halloween vibes with the haunted forest thing.

I enjoyed the characters but I thought it was going to be a little bit more thrill seeking than it was with her being an extreme athlete. With her injury though, I could see how that wouldn’t be a good idea. The emotional growth for her made up for it. Plus….naked skydiving…. I think that’s enough thrill for me lol. Also, MMCs reason for breaking it off with her was STUPID. Otherwise a nice quick read for the season. 👍🎃

Maybe I’m just too jaded, but I really didn’t buy this happy ending.

Montana Banks has moved to Wild River, Alaska to be closer to her daughter and for a fresh start after a BASE jumping accident that left her with a head injury. She is focused on building on her relationship with her daughter and on her new career teaching people the sport that she can no longer participate in. She is doing all she can not to be charmed by her cute neighbor Eddy; Eddy has finally achieved becoming a police officer and is on his way up the ladder. After a night out celebrating his promotion an act of violence brings Eddy and Monana together and changes both of their plans.

For those of us that were old enough to watch the movie Speed, Keanu himself said,

I have to warn you, I've heard relationships based on intense experiences never work.

Without giving too much of the story away, I think the author did not build much of a relationship between Eddy and Montana. Yes, a violent life changing event brings them together and they get real sexy with each other. But they have real issues and they never really work them out.

This book was ok, but I don’t think the title really fits this book , this was not a Sweet Alaskan Fall. There were parts that were far fetched and the author really didn’t do the work to build much more than a physical relationship between Eddy and Montana.

But, don’t skip the short shorty at the end of the book, it is kind of sweet.

I was beyond pleasantly surprised with how great the disability rep was in this book with BOTH main characters faced with mid-life disabilities. Montana is faced with a traumatic brain injury that affects her ability to parent her young daughter. It takes her years of therapy and treatments to learn to cope with her condition and try for a second chance with her now ten year old daughter. She ends up falling hard for local lawman Eddie, who has his own tragedy involving a shooting incident that leaves him partially paralyzed. Together, these two will learn to love again and take a chance on what could be instead of staying mired in the past. Great on audio and highly recommended especially for those that enjoy a high level of emotion depth to their feel-good, small town, Hallmark style romances!!

This was my first read of Jennifer Snow, and I have to say that I find much potential to her being an auto buy author for me.

First the setup was so interesting for this one. Since I hadn’t read any book in this series, I was very surprised by the prologue of Montana having blacked out with no memory of where her daughter was, causing her to step away from her for awhile for Kaia’s safety. When it was revealing in the next chapter that she had a traumatic brain injury after an accident causing her memory lapses as well as hallucinations of her dead sister. It was some thing I have not read any book before especially in a romance. They’re having other ailments and disabilities that have been evokes but not this particular one. It was interesting to see how that was played off in the book especially with her seeing the hallucinations of her dad sister. I don’t know if this is an accurate representation but it showed how falling in love had an effect on her hallucinations and symptoms. It showed how important Eddie’s love and her love for him truly was which was really sweet.

The banter between these two was some thing else. It was very sexy and flirty and fun but the scenes that were most fun it in the first half was definitely the workout scene and Eddie teaching Montana how to cook. It was hilarious yet it was sexy at the same time. It showed off how much attraction and chemistry they truly had with one another. Plus it showed Montana seeing Eddie in new light after all this time while he had been attracted day one.

Then the incident occurred which was a real turning point in the story because not only did it bring danger and suspense into the story but it also was a character journey that Eddie had to go through to deal with the consequences of what he did in saving Montana’s life. And it was raw and it was emotional. It showed the depressive sides of the aftermath of these type of things. How important his support system and love truly as in order to help the healing process. In fact Montana was the one to truly bring him to life again after his life went into upheaval with his injuries and how to live daily life again.

Admittedly I did think the naked Sky diving was pretty funny and sexy on the same time and did give Eddie the wake up call that he needed did pursue things again in his life. However I was hoping that this was going to be where they were starting to develop feelings and have build up more of their attraction to one another having that slow burn thing before they finally gave in to one another. It didn’t happen that way instead they jumped right in headfirst. It was sexy and sensual and very much a long time coming especially for Eddie but I just wish that part was dragged out a little teeny tiny bit more and more romance and emotional stuff developed before that happened between them.

I loved the bond that Eddie developed with Kaia. They developed a very sweet and trusting relationship as the book progressed. Kaia was even excited for Eddie and Montana to be involved and it was very astute when things became involved between them. Kaia very much encouraged the relationship between the two adults. She even started considering Addie to be a part of her life in a stepparent role just like Cassie it was. It was just really nice to see that relationship in here. Plus it played a huge role to the mystery element in the story which I thought was pretty cool.

The mystery and suspense was really good but it was it a majority of the book it was just in certain concentrations throughout and then regulated to the background in favor of romance between Montana and Eddie. I thought it was perfectly done and added just that extra element of excitement and edge to the story because it up the stakes as certain things progressed. I really light in adrenaline rush that came at the end with that big confrontation and the whole mystery getting solved and wrapped up in a nice tiny bow. It just added a lot to the story.

Also really appreciated the touches of Halloween in the story. It was perfect for this time of year and even though the cover suggested that this took place in the fall season I had no idea they were going to be some great elements to Halloween to it. It was just enough that my spooky vibe that I was looking for. And I was so happy that I decided to read this before Halloween.

Overall I look forward to reading the rest of the books in the series especially the previous ones that had been mentioned in this book. There were some great unique elements that I have never read and romance before but made it interesting and engaging as I was reading it. I think it gave it flavor. I loved there was romance and suspense with the romance being the focus and the suspense just enhanced it. I really enjoyed the story of two helping each other heal through the power of love. I did want a little more romance and build up after the whole sky diving adventure, but other that I really didn’t have any other gripes about this book. It was an entertaining, fun, serious and enjoyable read.

Montana Banks has returned to Wild River, Alaska, for a fresh start. Although she is a well known base-jumper, she can no longer participate in that sport after a serious head injury. She can still teach the sport, so gets a job working for her friend's adventure tour company. She has moved into an apartment and finds out that her next door neighbour is straitlaced police officer, Eddie Sanders. Eddie is an excellent cook and when her smoke alarm goes off while trying to cook a meal for a date, Eddie comes over and gives her a cooking lesson. Eddie has always had feelings for Montana, but when a going away party ends in a shooting, with Eddie in a wheelchair, Montana takes it upon herself to take care of him and show him that he still has a lot to live for. The more time they spend together, the closer they become and when Montana's daughter disappears, it is Eddie that puts together a team to find her. Will Eddie remain in Wild River? Can Montana show him that he still has value and that she cares for him?

I enjoyed this story, but it is not perfect. Montana is such a wonderful character. After her accident, she learned that she could still do things that she loved, so was a perfect person to teach Eddie the same thing. She was also not a person who was going to give up easily. She had to fight for what she wanted in life, so Eddie was going to have a tough time ignoring her. Montana is also co-parenting with the father of her child and she has grown a lot. We met both her and Tank in a previous book, so it was great to see them again. I loved the character building and the romance, but it got a bit steamier than I expected. There is also a nude tandem sky diving scene that was a bit unbelievable, but who knows, maybe it is a thing. One thing that Montana deals with since her head injury is hallucinations, but the hallucinations are her sister, who died when she was a young teenager. She sees and talks to her sister, especially when she is under stress. Overall, I liked this story and enjoyed being back in Wild River and meeting up with some familiar characters. I listened to this one, narrated by Melissa Moran. I enjoyed her performance and felt her expression, tone, voice and emotions added to my enjoyment of the story.

You know how when you read a new book in a series it kind of feels like coming home? You're reunited with friends you've met in other books and get to spend time in a place you love. No? Just me? *shrugs* Regardless, reading Jennifer Snow's Wild River series is like that for me. I had read a not-so-great book and being able to move to Snow's latest book, A Sweet Alaskan Fall, was such a joy. I knew the kind of story I was going to get it and it was so soothing and lovely. Even if I'm not quite ready to say hello to fall.

I had a feeling while reading Under an Alaskan Sky, the second book in the series, that the next book would be about Montana and Eddie. It was almost hard to picture at first because in the second book he was extremely suspicious of her and her motives. But, by the end, you could tell there was an interest there but you didn't know if it would be reciprocated. Montana thinks she's pretty damaged and is focused more on strengthening her relationship with her daughter as well as staying on top of her health. And honestly? That was the best thing for her. Romance could take a back seat - it wasn't the most important. But falling for Eddie just seemed so right. Her daughter already knows him and he's friendly with her new friends plus she really gets a handle on so many things in this book that you can't help but root for the romance to blossom between Montana and Eddie.

And do I have a similar feeling about who the fourth novel will be about, you (don't) ask? Why yes, thank you for (not) inquiring. I had a sense that the next book (out next spring) would follow Eddie's sister, Leslie, and I was correct! It sounds great but heavy and I'm already looking forward to it.

I have to say that this book almost veered off into corny made for tv mystery territory (not that there's anything wrong with those, when done well). I suppose that was to be expected given Eddie's profession as a police officer but I think the subject matter was just a touch too heavy for the romance series Snow is writing.

I think I found Montana's character to be a bit stronger than Eddie's, but maybe that's because I got to know her a bit in the second book. That said, there was a lot more to Eddie than the reader (and Montana) expected and I liked seeing more of him. More of both of them, to be honest. They were a unique couple in that they seemed like opposites but they were a lot more similar than you’d initially expect and in ways that’s kind of hard to describe. Like any great couple, they made each other shine. Their connection may have been unexpected but it was genuine and I loved reading as they fell for each other.

A Sweet Alaskan Fall might have edged out the others in Jennifer Snow's Wild River series as my favourite of the trio. I liked the story, I loved the characters, and I adored how I felt when reading it. This romance novel came along at just the right time and it made for the coziest, heartwarming afternoon when I read it.

*An egalley of this novel was provided by the publisher, Harlequin, in exchange for review consideration. All opinions are honest and my own.*

Another in the Wild River series, in which extreme athlete Montana Banks has become a partner in the Snow/Trek Tours business and is enjoying getting to know her daughter, who's been living with her father for the past several years. Montana's goal is to get well enough to no longer worry that she'll have a brain buzz that wipes out her memories. Unfortunately, noises she'd just as soon not hear keep emanating from her next door neighbor's apartment. He's police officer Eddie Sanders and, unlike Montana, who revels in dangerous adventures, he's what one might call safety-preferring.

Trouble is their encounters often engender casual flirting couched in complaints about each other until an evening when someone takes a shot at Montana while she's walking with her at-the-time boyfriend and Eddie leaps in the way of the bullet, waking up in the hospital wondering if he'll every walk again after the surgery that saves his life.

Montana knows what it's like to be depressed after a life-altering injury and she's determined to pull Eddie out of his funk, but will it be enough to get him to see that life isn't over? She'll do anything including, oops--can't give that away.

A bonus for the both of them? Her efforts also generate enough heat that both fall madly in lust and love with the other. Or so Eddie thought, until Montana's safety-insistent parents show up along with that boyfriend-who-isn't. What's worse is what Montana's 11-year-old daughter has shared with Eddie on the QT that makes him think he might know what has happened when she suddenly disappears. Can search and rescue find her? Will he solve the mystery of who shot at Montana that evening earlier in the summer? And will she open up to him or go back to that jerk-face Olympic snowboarder her parents are so enamored of? So many questions to find answers to...

I took my first visit to the small Alaskan town of Wild River earlier this year in Jennifer Snow's book An Alaskan Christmas. And came back a little later in Under an Alaskan Sky. In each of those books, the characters grew on me and the town kept being built around me. It's what I love about small town romances. Great interconnected characters and the atmosphere the town gives, along with it being a character in itself. Jennifer Snow continues to do this in the latest novel. And I'm going to keep coming back again and again.

After reading book 2 and getting to know a little more about the character Montana, I knew I'd enjoy reading her as the lead in this one. While her and Tank had issues in the past, they both worked through them and Montana deserved a happy ending of her own. Not only did she need a happy ending, but she also had a journey through her life-changing injury to continue on. This provided much depth to her character and made this book so much more than just a great romance. The same goes for Eddie. I didn't know much about him from the previous books, but he had more than enough room to grow here. These two characters are both strong, determined, and deserving of what they achieved here. I'm looking forward to seeing more of them moving forward, even if it'll probably be as side characters like the previous couples.

This was a great book for me to pick up as fall started taking hold around me and the need to escape into the rugged but beautiful wilds of Alaska becomes more and more. I have a bit of a wait until the next Wild River novel's release, but at least I've kept the novellas on my reading pile to help hold me over.

A SWEET ALASKAN FALL is the third book of the A Wild River series by Jennifer Snow. Eddie Sanders has been attracted to Montana Banks since she moved next door, but now that he is leaving for a new job in Anchorage he wonders if he should’ve taken a chance with her sooner. Montana Banks moves to Wild River, Alaska, for a fresh start and be closer with her daughter. A head injury has left her unable to participate in her favorite extreme sports, so she settles to teach base-jumping classes. Everything is going great except she finds herself attracted to her next-door neighbor, a straitlaced police officer named Eddie Sanders. An act of violence leaves Eddie seriously wounded, leaving him depressed over the loss of his self-confidence and his job opportunity, but Montana draws him out showing all the reasons to pick himself up again.
Jennifer Snow brings out a little excitement and a little drama but a whole lot of heat, making it easy for readers to fall in love with Eddie as he sort out his relationship with Montana along with a variety of interesting characters who make the town of Wild River an unique little town. I enjoyed this book, not realizing until I started it that it was not the first in a series. But I was able to follow things without any background knowledge. Montana has moved to a small Alaskan town to be closer to her daughter. She is an extreme sport enthusiast and had an injury BASE jumping years earlier. She gave up her daughter (to the child's father) when she learned that her condition posed a hazard to her being alone with the baby. She is doing better now and has an excellent co-parenting relationship with her childs father and his girlfriend.
Montana soon feels that she might be interested in more than the shallow relationship she has with the guy she dates when he's in town (another athlete). She also finds that the annoying early morning guitar player next door, might be making her feel things she's never felt before.
Things come to a head when something happens at the teens month long summer camp that change her behavior. Also, someone close to Montana is considering a possible move an hour away, that leaves her with a feeling of loss.
Can she manage to prove to her protective parents that she can safely live on her own, while she tries to help her duaghter and hold on to the life she has established for herself?

A Sweet Alaskan Fall is the third book in Jennifer Snow’s Wild River series. I have not read the first and second book in the series.

Montana Banks moved to Wild River, Alaska for a new start and to be closer to her daughter. Montana is an extreme sports athlete who is unable to participate in her favorite sports due to a severe head injury. She has taken a job teaching BASE jumping at her friend’s company. Everything is going great until she finds herself attached to her next door neighbor strait laced police officer Eddie Sanders.

Eddie has been attracted to Montana ever since she moved in and now he’s leaving for a new job in Anchorage and wonders should he have taken a chance with her sooner. Then a moment of violence the night of his going away party leaves him badly wounded. Eddie becomes depressed and loses his self confidence. Can Montana show Eddie is still has so much to live for.

I liked Eddie, he is such a good guy. Montana had to overcome her own trauma so can she pull Eddie out of his own depression .

Jennifer Snow brings some great characters, drama and a whole lot of heat. I’ll definitely read the first two books in this series.

Hmm...what to say about this one. Well...the cover is not remotely what you get in this book. Takes place in Alaska in Fall...and...yeah. But...I was happily surprised that there was some great disability rep in here. Unfortunately...I feel like the author bit off more than she could chew because this book felt all over the place to me. None of the many many ideas in this book are thoroughly explored and given the attention they deserve...so none of it quite worked for me. We've got someone with a new disability, someone who has been struggling with a traumatic brain injury for years, coming back into your child's life after years of being absent due to said injury, a drug plot, parent issues, naked skydiving, addiction...I'm probably missing some things but I think you get the idea. Definitely wasn't the sweet Fall romance that the cover seems to indicate. Not a horrible book...but not great either.

“Cool, and van seemed like an oxymoron, but he was grateful for Kaia’s attempt.”

⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is a romance book with a bit of mystery.

Montana is an adrenaline and junkie who is putting her life back together after an injury that keeps her from doing what she loves. Her addiction to base jumping has allowed her to start a new job offering instruction on how to do it. An accident while she was jumping has compromised her health as well as her relationship with her family and her daughter.

When she starts to connect with her neighbor, Eddie who is a local police officer, he is caught in the crosshairs of her wild lifestyle. When he is injured, saving her life he cannot talk Montana’s pity. His future is put on hold while he recovers. As he deals with injury, he stubbornly ends the possibility of a future for them. That is until Montana’s daughter needs him and gets mixed up in something bigger than she ever imagined.

This book was OK. It is your classic romance. There’s a little bit of spice set in the state of Alaska which I like and was my next read in my fall themed books.

I've never been into adult romance novels before, but the Wild River series pulled me in. I love how the stories of two characters are spotlighted in one book, but that they continue to be integrated into others. I found A Sweet Alaskan Fall to be the most compelling story so far. Snow did a great job with building up the romance between Eddie and Montana; the flirting leading up to them finally getting together felt authentic and realistic. I also like how she portrayed the co-parenting relationship between Montana, Tank, and Cassie; so often, these types of relationships are shown to be toxic and vindictive. It was refreshing to show that it can be done in a loving and collaborative environment.

This book is a part of a series "Wild River". It takes place in. Wild River, Alaska. The main character, Montana Banks, has moved there for a fresh start, and to be with her 10 year old daughter, Kaia. She is addicted to adrenaline rushes...in particular to BASE jumping.
The other main character is Eddie, who is a state trooper with the Alaska Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Enforcement. He moves into the apartment next to Montana.
Eventually, Montana and Eddie get involved.....
There are a lot of characters in this book, and since this is the 3rd in the series, and the first time I've read one of them, it took me awhile to sort all of them out and get into the book. All-in-all, I enjoyed it.
