No longer under the protection of the president, the Project has gone private as an exclusive consulting service available to select clients. A powerful Japanese industrialist hires Elizabeth Harker and the Project team to find a famous sword lost in the aftermath of WWII. It looks like a straightforward assignment. Then people start dying, and Harker's team is pulled into a web of murder and deception that began centuries before in feudal Japan and the days of the samurai. Why is the sword important enough to kill for? What secret does it hold? Forced to defend themselves against a fanatical enemy, Nick and Selena follow a trail of blood to Japan. There they find themselves in a mythic confrontation that can only end in one way – death. The Sword will keep you reading into the night.
I like Barbados rum, old, fast motorcycles, playing guitar and books by authors like Michael Connelly, Robert Crais, Alex Berenson, Craig Johnson and Lee Child. I write action/adventure thrillers. WHITE JADE is the first in a series featuring the PROJECT, a small, elite counter-terrorism unit. There are currently 23 books in the series. href="http://www.goodreads.com">ale...
This story line centers around a lot of actual history in Japan as well as what I will classify as historical myths. But unlike the adventures of King Arthur and Merlin, actual historical characters. Japan is steeped in tradition and honor. It is their core. Unfortunately, as in all cultures, old values change. The Yakuza, although is is a criminal organization is steeped in tradition. It has control of most all criminal activities in Japan, and is entrenched in their politics. The Project once one of America's covert agencies worked for POTUS. Now they no longer have this security blanket but the protection and help of the CIA. Director. They are now consultants. A client wants them to locate and retrieve an historical Japanese sword. Unfortunately, he is not been honest about his true reasons for recovering the sword. Non stop action from first to last page. A magnificent read!!
The 19th entry in this delightful action series by Alex Lukeman is “The Sword.” I’ve been in love with The Project Series since I discovered the first book, and over the years, Alex Lukeman has lost none of his ability to write an entertaining story. Now with a new President, the Project has gone private as an exclusive consulting service available to select clients. A powerful Japanese industrialist hires Elizabeth Harker and the Project team to find a famous sword lost in the aftermath of WWII. And thus, begins what should have been a fairly harmless job.
Non-stop action and many twists & turns will keep one reading. Just when the reader gets to thinking The Project Team is getting the upper hand, the bad guys throw another curve and cause more turmoil. I do recommend that you read the books in order to see and experience the growth of the characters as they evolve from story to story. Lukeman is always strong at his research, which certainly gives good historical background; in this case, regarding Japan. His plots are well crafted, and his characterization is strong. If you want an excellent action filled read, give this series a try.
(3.5 stars) I recently realized that there were a few Project books I had not read. I guess I had not been keeping track of this series very well (obviously). I always liked these books, so I immediately bought book 19. While I enjoyed it, it was a bit of a letdown from what I remembered -- not as engaging or exciting. The Japanese history and culture just did not hold any interest for me and, of course, there were some over the top scenes (always outnumbered, but come out on top....whew!), but hey, that's what this series is all about! ;-) Looking forward to reading the next two books in the series.
The Project Team is now under the umbrella of the CIA since they were disbanded by the President. They have a new mission to find a unique Japanese sword which went missing after World War II when the U.S. Government collected all the swords in Japan. It sounded like a simple task, but of course it was anything but simple. The Yakuza, Japanese mob, became involved which complicated things much more. Alex Lukeman takes the reader through twists and turns, battles with the Yakuza, and surprises along the way. If you like exciting thrillers you will enjoy this book. I could not book the down. Happy reading! 😊
Another fantastic story with old friends from the project series of books
I really enjoyed this story with a great addition of Japanese historical warriors. This was a really good story about the key characters. Mr Lineman continues to provide fast moving stories that are believable while continuing to include all the key characters.please keep up the great stories, I like many people enjoy the project series.
Another great read that takes the team across America and to Japan. Many an ancient art and a lot of pride. As usual well written, gripping, the story does concentrate on two of the team, another two a little sidelined. But it still draws you in more than enough to want to read the next in the series.
The team of OP’s has gone private, a Japanese man hires them. Plot of finding the samari sword, to stop the destruction. Good characters and action. Given audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
Another excellent, fast read. If you like books with a lot of fluff this is not for you. But if you enjoy a fast moving story with a lot of action and impossible "James Bond" escapes, read this! Throughly enjoyable!
Review by Gloria Lakritz Review Chair for the Paranormal Romance Guild Book: The Sword Series: The Project Series Bk 19 Author: Alex Lukeman Publisher: Alex Lukeman Release date: June 16, 2019 Pages:217 pages Rated: Mature Genre: Military Adventure
After finishing Book #18 The Black Templar, I dried my sweaty palms that always occurs when reading this series. I was saddened this was to be The Last Project Book. What was I going to do after 18 episodes over the years, counting on Elizabeth Harker and her gang to protect the American way? The author mentioned another direction soooo seeing this #19 excited me to see Alex Lukeman has found another Project story to tell.
Since President Rice is no longer in office, the new POTUS will not sanction The Project Team, Elizabeth Harker maintains the house and equipment and has set the team to be in a private hire. Ronnie is in Arizona learning from his father the ways of an Healer on his families reservation and Lamont is in Florida fishing.
When Elizabeth is approached by a Japanese business man looking for a sword given to the Americans in reparation when the war ended…Sending Nick to a nursing home to interview an American WWll vet starts to spiral….
We are on another roller coaster ride. This story is only dealing with one country, Japan. The background and history was amazing, Mr. Lukeman is always wonderful at research. This was the pleasantist surprise I could have had!!! Thank you Alex….wanna make it 20?
The latest in the Project series, the book is a fun read. While many of the stories follow a certain formula, they are still well thought out plots with characters that have depth. As usual, the author does a great job with his research, and weaves it well into the story. My biggest complaint is that sometimes the characters are a little naive about the danger they are in.
Overall, the book was well written, the story well planned and executed, and I look forward to the next one.
Nick and the team are back in action after some idiots threaten his and Selena's twins. The Job looked like a straight forward easy money maker for the team, Selena translating some old papers about a sword but once she is done this powerful Japanese guy hires the team to find the sword mentioned in the papers. Easy right? Not for this team there are always unknown obstacles to hurdle.
This is a wonderful addition to the Project series and stands up to the high standards brought about by the other books in the series. It is action packed and full of suspense like the other books but I love the different history brought in by each book. If you are so lucky to have gotten the audios narrated by the wonderful voice of Jack de Golia than you too will feel like you are there along with the team and helping them. This team has become family and I so love hearing of their exploited like you would after seeing a cousin and catching up after a year or so.
Another good book about the Project team. Nick and Selina are asked to look for an ancient Japanese Sword. People they talk are murdered. They find themselves involved with old Japanese traditions, in that if you kill a member of a family, that family will come after you. This happens. They go to Japan and try to sort out the mystery of the sword and discover it leads to a hoard of gold. Good Book.
I have read the whole series and liked them all. This one is after the group have worked for the government as a covert group. They have moved and life is different but they are asked to find an ancient sword and return it to Japan so it can be displayed. That is not why the sword is wanted at all and Nick and Selena get in some serious situations finding that out. Some interesting Japanese history in this story to make you not want to put the book down.
Alex has done it again! great story, loved the history sad well as the place. All of the characters return and are fully involved. Happy to see the glimpse of family life with the nanny and twins. Sad when I finished as now I wait for the next book.
Nice glimpse into Japan and the Japanese people. Without the Project things seemed a lot more forced and awkward. Not sure how best to keep it going but I am struggling right along with Nick, Selena and Mr Lukewarm.
Interesting concept of basing the story about n a lost Japanese treasure. Believable, fun to read, seems culturally correct and characters are well developed. Entertaining and informative, I enjoyed it.
