I’ve been taken away to a private island that’s home to the rich and elite.
Something sinister and perverse lurks just beneath the opulence.
It watches every breath I take and notes each move I make, ensuring that the purpose in which I’m here is never forgotten.
There’s a hierarchy amongst the natives and I am now the exclusive possession of ‘Diabolus’, a gorgeous man that is esteemed as the devil.
His wishes are simple to understand, but obediently giving in to his demands goes against every ounce of human decency and morality I possess.
As we spiral down a path of depravity that leads to the darkest depths of hell, I must decide how I want this to end.
Captor and captive. Life or death.
Do I become what he needs, or do I risk it all just to die by his hand?
Author Note: Stygian Isles is a romantic horror series that contains various dark themes. Reader discretion is highly advised. A CW can be found on the author's website as well as the author's note inside. Each book following the main duology is a standalone with a different couple.
Natalie Bennetts writing is absolutely addicting. This was a book I read through in one sitting. It’s full of WTF moments and mystery surrounding this religious cult and compound.. I’m scared for Lily. “Diabolus has come for you.” Lily and her BFF get abducted to an island. It’s dark and creepy AF and Lily quickly gets out into a position of being a bride if sorts… the man she’s to marry is fucking UNHINGED and obsessed with her. “Let this Rite reaffirm our shared destiny and illuminate the path that lies ahead. Together, we shall usher in the new era of darkness. “
Okay so Mr. Hawthorne is full of secrets. It’s clear he knows more about Lily than Lily knows about herself. This story is not for the faint of heart. It’s all the triggers. Please read the warning ⚠️ in the beginning of the book.
“You were meant to be mine, Lolita. From the time you took your first breath, and long after you draw your last. “
Spice? I mean… yes?! It’s all Non/Con and Dub/Con. Including somnophilia 🫢.
Zero morals and an obsessive and unhinged MC? ☑️
This is not a complete story. I’ll be over here dying for the next book.
I grabbed Muerte on one of those Stuff Your Kindle Days and FINALLY got around to it. I held off on reviewing it until I finished the duology because I wanted to see how it worked as a whole.
On its own, Muerte feels more like setup than a full story. Not much really happens beyond establishing the dynamic between Lolita and Diabolus, and the constant back-and-forth of do I want to be here, how could you do this, got repetitive. Lolita herself wasn’t the most compelling FMC, and at times I struggled to stay invested.
That being said, I did appreciate that this one leaned into actually being dark, unlike a lot of so-called dark romance that barely scratches the surface. It kept me curious enough to continue, and I’m glad I did because book two (Semper) is both better and worse in very different ways. More on that in my next review. Honestly, if the duology had been condensed into one book, it would have landed stronger for me.
As it stands, Muerte was a decent but not groundbreaking read. If you’ve dipped into dark romance before, this story will feel familiar, but I still enjoyed my time with it enough to keep going.
I'm not very into reading books with cults, something about the brainwashing doesn't do it for me. I found myself wanting to finish the book to see if Lolita is able to escape her new reality. With the little breadcrumbs we are given at the end, I see myself reading the next book in the series just to see what happens.
Yes I read the warning. Yes I know that the MMC does whatever he wants. This rating is primarily based on the story, or lack there of one.
Before diving into this, I read the prequel. It told me nothing. It was good, but I expected answers in this book one, but I didn't get them. The characters are assumed to be before these MC's, but it never definitively tells the reader. This book said so much and also not enough. The MC's kept moving around and things were happening, but the story never really seemed to progress further and in the end, the reader is still left without answers. Again.. I read the warning. I know that the MMC is supposed to be really unhinged and holds no morals, but come on. The constant non-con was getting really annoying. Give the reader something to grasp. Give them hope that the situation changes a little. At least mention the WHY it is happening. As I said before, so much happened in this story and also nothing happened at the same time. This book was supposed to be released late 2023 and was pushed to Feb 2024. I think it still needed time to develop and grow before release. At this time, I have no interest in continuing the series.
I would had given 5 stars but bc there is so much that is unanswered I decided 4.5. The author is new to me, another book of hers popped up on my Kindle as of interest so I started surfing through her other books and found this one. Read the blurb and was intrigued, The only downfall is I didn't realize this was newly released and the second book is not releasing until May, that’s a bummer. 😫 I was left with a huge cliffhanger and a sense of feeling unfulfilled. Like so much information is missing and I am assuming it's all beholden in the second book. I liked both the MMC and FMC, however the FMC, Lolita really had no reaction to the things she witnessed, you would think that after all that she would have so much fear towards the MMC. Even though we have his POV, she doesn't know what's going on in his head and that's another thing I feel she has no concept of fear, because I would be like oh crap he killed his other 2 wives, he going to do the same with me. I don't know 🤷🏻♀️ I just thought she was unbelievably with no fear after all that she WITNESSED and was told. I loved every minute of this dark delicious romance! The MMC is my favorite kind of dark and possessive! I can't wait for book 2 so I can get some answers because the suspense is killing me and let’s talk about her mom…..why is her mom still on the island, and how did Lolita get off the island? So many unanswered questions!
So excited for book 2, but I am afraid by May with the way my memory is I'll forget what mostly I read! 💀
I will be checking out the authors other books, The author did an amazing job with her writing, ✍️ I absolutely appreciate her skill with the world build and plot was all chef kiss.
This book hooked me from the very beginning, largely due to the fascinating friendship between Anya and Lolita. They’re complete opposites, but their dynamic is compelling and adds depth to the early chapters. Then we’re introduced to Alexander, and that is when Lolita’s world begins to unravel.
Lolita and Alexander’s meeting is no coincidence. He’s been stalking her for some time, patiently waiting for the right moment to strike. When he finally does, it is with the intent to capture and possess her. Alexander is the leader of a secretive society on a remote, elusive island, and when Lolita regains consciousness there, she has no idea what she’s about to face. He’s far from a romanticized villain. In fact, his morality skews entirely black. Consent is not something he acknowledges, let alone respects. Expect him to push all boundaries, and just not care about them.
"I'm not used to getting what I want. I take what I want by whatever means necessary."
"Is there a difference?"
"The first implies I occasionally don't. The second guarantees I always do."
"I'm going to take everything from you because I have that right. Because I'm selfish and more than a little obsessed and want everything you have to offer." ~Alexander
One aspect I found lacking was Lolita’s resistance to her situation. I kept hoping she would try harder to escape or show more defiance, but she seemed to surrender too easily. Anya, even from the sidelines, exhibited more strength and resilience than Lolita ever did, which was disappointing. I wanted to root for Lolita, but her passivity made it difficult.
Despite that, I plan to read the second book. I'm intrigued by the inner workings of the society and hopeful that Lolita will begin to evolve. I want to see her push back against the cult-like expectations imposed on women, rather than continue to submit to them.
‼️‼️‼️Triggers‼️‼️‼️ I don't have any triggers, and if you are like me, I would suggest going into this blind. But be aware there are major triggers in this book.
⟣Tropes⟢ ✅ Touch her and 💀 ✅ 🖤 Morally Black MMC 🖤 ✅ Obsessive/JP MMC ✅ Secret Society/Cult ✅ Dual POV’s (first person) ✅ Brëëding Kink ✅ Branding/Ownership ✅ Captor/Captive ✅ Virgin FMC ✅ Stalker ✅ 🔪 Play ✅ 🩸Bløød Play ✅ Tabøø 🩸🩸🩸 ✅ MINE ✅ Cliff
Interesting concept, but the execution was not what I hoped it would be. With this kind of story, I'm hoping to see feminine rage and resistance. I got neither. The FMC doesn't like the MMC but lets him steamroll right over her. While sometimes it's the smart thing to do for survival's sake, when it's done every time, it sickens me.
There is a ton of body betrayal, every single sexual encounter in this book was r*pe. Body betrayal is disgusting and turns female characters into moaning piles of mush that couldn't possibly feel anything but obedience and acquiescence to an oppressive man because he's attractive, well endowed, and skilled in bed. *barf*
Something that didn’t make sense:
The MMC was incredibly disgusted by the FMC's best friend Anya because she slept with lots of men and also because some of them were married. Yet, his religion worships the obscene. The most depraved sins are celebrated and the pursuit of sex is paramount. So why would the MMC be judging Anya?
Frankly, for a cult that was all about sex and freedom of perverse expression the women were mighty oppressed (women can't look at other men, women can't drive, women must submit to men, women can be used at any time by men, etc.)
Zero morals and an obsessive and unhinged MC? ☑️
This is not a complete story. I’ll be over here dying for the next book.
This is book one and ends on a cliffhanger so be prepared! Lolita is just trying the make ends meet living with her best friend and working a cleaning job at a hotel. When she meets Alex for the first time he unsettled her but she navigates the encounter well and leaves unscathed. Too bad for Lolita, Alex has plans for her and I'd not above drugging and kidnapping her. Can she survive in his messed up world?
Well, let’s get right to the point, this is a very dark read and is not for the faint of heart; luckily, I love these types of books when written properly, and this author is my go-to for these types of books.
Note, before you read this book, I highly recommend that you read Del Diablo, it is a prequel with insight as to what may be taking place on Stygian Isle. So, let’s begin…
Lolita is a reclusive young woman who was raised in the system and survived until the devil comes calling. When she is abducted by Diabolus and is chained in a room in a mansion on this mysterious isle, this is where the horror begins. As Lolita navigates her time on this isle, learning their culture and rules, she finds out there are secrets to be unraveled; however, I think she may not like what she discovers. On the other hand, there is her kidnapper Diabolus, he will make sure Lolita becomes everything she is meant to be, he will love her, cherish her, and discipline her, because she is his and his alone!
In closing, this book left me with so many unanswered questions that I can’t wait to find out what Natalie’s brilliantly evil mind will come up with. I’m so not waiting patiently!
This book was soo good, i'm obsessed. The plot and mystery were intriguing and kept me glued to the pages until the very end. The end leaves me itching for more. I adore the world created and the characters are interesting, especially Alexander I think. 4.5 stars
Muerte is dark and twisted in all the ways I expect from a Natalie Bennett book.
Feels amazing reading again after a year long break and I could not wait to come HOME. Home meaning Natalie Bennett. Her stories are some of the best dark books I have read and I want to LIVE inside them. This was incredible, I loved Lolita and cannot wait to dive into book 2 now!!
3.5 Another stunning cover for natalie Bennett enthralling story. Now, that being said, where to start. A dark universe , rich and vivid, chilling to the bone. A villain, a real one, am heroine who knows how to pick her battles, who is bidding her time, unless she'll just succumb to her kidnapper. I loved the gruesome scenes that felt palpable to the core. I found myself immersed into a story I couldn't read fast enough, but at the same time, I was disappointed when I ground out what the connection to Del Diablo was. Besides, we are here in a classic dark romance plot, the one you can read in a mafia setting, and I needed more. Last point, there are missing words and other typos as well as some repetitions that could have been corrected before the release. All in all, it was a very entertaining first installment, and I'll read the next one, without a doubt.
A lot of mistery around this one. There are a lot of triggers, but nothing that bad for me. I didn't give the last star only because it bothered me his past or wifes situation whic isn't completely clear . I hope that the conclusion in the next book won't ruin this. I love how extreme and OTT possessive and adoring he is with her. Obviously next level.
*ARC* Just here desperately waiting for the second book because WTF IM OBSESSED. If you know me then you know Natalie Bennett is one of my favorite authors and I’ve been following all the updates on this book since the first time she mentioned it. So you know I ran to signup for a ARC so quick. To have been chosen to receive one means everything to me and I’m so grateful for this opportunity.
To start off the tropes immediately called to me. I love anything with organized crime groups so hearing that it’s centered around secret society and occults I knew I needed to learn more. My favorite part of this book was exploring this new world with their own beliefs and religion. And let me tell you their beliefs aren’t for the faint of heart and definitely goes against the average moral code. I’m excited to explore this further in the next book and finally get answers to the many questions I have.
I love the way this book first started and being introduced to Lolita life before everything goes down and the way she first met Alex. Alex is the reddest red flag but he’s my reddest red flag. He tall, dark, and handsome with no moral code.
Overall Natalie Bennett did it again with another amazing dark romance and I recommend it for anyone who love occults and secret societies. Also make sure to check trigger warnings because this society wouldn’t know morals even if it hit them in the face.
Idk… this started out so good but just started going downhill from there. The FMC has been kidnapped, taken against her will, raped, sodomized and forced into a cult world she didn’t ask for. You would think she would fight until she couldn’t fight no more, nope, she remained calm and collective and blamed it on the MMC being bigger and stronger than her. She just gave in from the jump. She has ZERO backbone which was frustrating to read. I don’t like an OTT heroine who thinks she’s a bad ass, but a weak meek FMC ain’t it either. I’m sure the second book she’s gonna give into her world and take on her role with no hesitation. We shall see
Dark, Occult, Set the world on fire for her, Taboo, SlowBurn, Age Gap, Unapologetically twisted and macabre.
This book is sexy and sinful. From the first page to the last page it captures your attention and transports you straight into their world and the real world fades away around you. Every time Natalie Bennett releases a new stand alone or addition to a series she continues to improve and impress with the ability to create a story that is unlike any other before or after. She has the ability to make toxic men that are literally walking red flags into every woman’s fantasy. I know for myself I find myself wishing I could find a man like the ones in her book which is wild because some of them are literal sociopathic murdering monsters with a gentle side for their queens. We have a dark universe , rich and vivid, chilling to the bone. A true villain and a intelligent heroine who knows how to pick her battles. Being able to get into the mindset of both characters allows you to full understand both characters while still see them subjectively as a third person.
This book has quite a few trigger warnings so I would definitely check that out in the beginning of the book before starting.
The following Trigger for the series are:
Dark Occultism/worship Somnophilia Free Use (with dubious consent) Anthropophagy (including that of a stillborn)—Semper Forced Pregnancy/breeding Stillbirth (not fmc)-Semper On page CNC/DNC Various play (blood, breath, etc.) Misogyny Totalitarian theocracy Incest-blood related-Semper Exhibitionism-Semper Masochism Sadism Semper Cannibalism-Semper Complete power control Mental manipulation Domineering MMC Slight age-gap Graphic scenes of murder/torture Necrophilia—Semper Intense Trauma bonding Semper
So if any of these triggers affect you I would recommend not reading it. Bev the book is definitely for the dark twisted horror romance lovers
The overall story line: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 The spice: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.✨/5 Recommendation: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Overall score: 4.5/5
I highly recommend this book and this is a book that after finishing it I would pick it up again in the future. I can not wait for second book in the series semper to come out in May. Chefs kiss to this storyline
The Storyline Playlist to listen to while reading:
This book ... my god this book totally hooked me since page 1. I knew that this book was going to be EVERYTHING and it sure was!
Lolita has never asked for anything, she's always worked for what she has and could afford. She was happy in her little ordinary life and having her best friend next to her. Then one day at the resort she worked at as a housekeeper, she runs into a man who she finds very attractive but very aloof and condescending and that didn't fly with her. But it turns out that this man will be more than she could handle and he came into her life without her expecting it.
Alexander Alistair a/k/a Mr. Hawthorne, as she met him had a purpose and a mission and he wasn't going to leave back to his island without the girl and that girl happened to be Lolita.
When Lolita finds herself helpless and no way to return to her home state, she complies with his demands and just tries to abide by their rules. See, Alexander and his family run a church, and it's a special kind of church. To me it felt more like a cult (shivers) and he has no qualms about getting rid of anyone who gets in his way, even if it means getting rid of whoever gets in his way of his happiness with Lolita.
This man was obsessed, infatuated, downright borderline crazy when it came to Lolita. And I loved how he commanded her and would do as he pleased when it came down to her. The schmexy scenes were hot and even though he was a little bit psycho for Lolita, he knew how to be tender, loving, and caring when it came to her.
Lolita made me laugh at times because she knew how infatuated Alexander was with her and thought he was a bit crazy, but she still found him alluring and handsome and she felt compelled to still do as he pleased to not make him lose control and was afraid for her life. She knew this was a dead end for her and no matter how hard she tried, she knew she wasn't going to get out of here alive if she tried to run.
This is a very dark, dark book and if you can't handle deep triggers, then I suggest you don't read it. It's not for the faint of heart AT ALL!
I can't get over how obsessed I was with this story and I CANNOT wait for the 2nd book. I am literally dying.
First off, check content and trigger warnings unless you don't have any, I'd suggest going in blind. I did and it made each instant more shocking than had I known the total mind trip that is within these pages.
Lolita and Anya met in the foster system and became their only family. Lolita is a pure but extremely street smart. She's been through her fair share knocks. Anya is the outgoing social butterfly who dreams of landing a man with money and doesn't care if they're married but never quite getting her wealthy ever after fairy tale.
The girls are housekeepers in a swanky extremely upper class hotel. One night they're asked to help work an event that only the elite of the elite are allowed through the doors. Turns out, this night will change their lives forever.
Alexander has taken the term "obsessive stalker" to a whole new brand of OTT MMC. The things he does all in the name of claiming what is his is beyond anything I've read in over a year and I cannot wait for the rest of this messed up story.
Basic information about the meat of the book: Religious cult/secret society vibe, hidden island, chosen women, kidnapping, branding, and secrets upon secrets that I'm still guessing how the next book is going to address the breadcrumbs sprinkled throughout this book. Jaw dropping moments, more wtaf moments that at times had me questioning my darkness and sanity!! The spice is intense and I would put it at a 4 but not necessarily on the typical spice meter.
If you want a depraved, twisted, read that is a page turner, I would definitely grab this book as soon as it's available. Beware that there's some major heavy potential triggers. Read with caution but it's well worth the read, be prepared for a cliffhanger and more unanswered questions than actual complete answers.
Hmmm.... shocked myself and kept reading this instead of DNFing because why not 🤷🏾♀️. Sometimes I do that even when I know a book will be ⭐️⭐️⭐️. It's not a bad book but the FMC's age definitely made this one feel like a glossy CW circa 2001 era TV show. It's dark, broody with a morally gray MMC or something like that.
My expectations were so different from what I got: 🍽 Horror?....not really 🍽Romantic?...I guess 🍽traumas?....no not at all
Writing: The writing was not terrible it easily flowed but so much of the story felt like set dressing. So much of the smex and "mayhem" felt like overly rehearsed lines. It all feed into the boringness. No one really does anything or say anything interesting.
🪙 For my Thoughts: For my own tastes one could never convince me that a Big Bad Man with lots of power and wealth being obsessed with a 20 year old is a compelling trait. It completely neuters him. How you the head of a secret society with generational wealth but you're interested in a 20 year old?...how dreadful! And even the cult is dull.
Plot: The secret society dude in this book isn't murdery enough. Like he's only cutting out tongues and eyes so I mean I guess. Getting excited I thought some throats were going to be ripped out! But nope. Major letdown. The FMC is alright. She behaves like she has some sense. But her scenes are just kind of surface level. We get told a lot about how beautiful she is or something. The MMC twirls his moustache and snickers at his plan coming together like he's Hannibal. And secrets secrets, something something. Book 1 ends are you excited for Book 2?
In Muerte, we follow our character Lolita. She’s a somewhat normal gal, working her normal job with her best friend. Nothing special, or so she thinks, living her plain days and keeping to herself. Until one day, she stumbles upon Alexander at a work event. He has money. He has power. And Lolita is his, whether she’s aware of it… or wants it.
Lolita is thrown into Alexander’s depraved world overnight. She literally wakes up and realizes she was kidnapped… and not only kidnapped, but she’s secluded on Stygian Isle, an island built by the family patriarch. With absolutely no hope for escape, she’s in a never-ending game of cat and mouse with Alex. But even more, there’s something off about the people around her. And there’s something very, very strange about the island.
I was absolutely submerged with this read, and I am so curious on how this will play out in the next book. I’m even more curious about Stygian Isle and, of course, the huge details towards the end of Muerte that left me open-mouthed and needing more. I can’t wait for it.
I will always recommend Natalie’s work. This one is no different. Check the warnings, as Natalie is a queen of WTF and writing pitch black characters. There’s no regard for right or wrong here.
Whew. I’ve been waiting for this book for a long time and it didn’t disappoint.
Lolita didn’t know that the secret auction happening in her workplace resort would be the start of her new nightmare reality. When she wakes up chained to the wall in a luxurious, gothic room and hears the sound of waves from the open window, she realizes she is far from home.
Alexander is an obsessed man. He has watched Lolita for years and finally brought her “home”. The Isle is home of a different society, where Alex rule is law and their religion is different than anything Lolita has seen.
Alex is unhinged, morally pitch black, and will do whatever it takes to protect his future bride and his isle. Anyone who goes against him or his rules, is shown no mercy and unapologetically discarded. And he will break Lola and put her back together exactly the way she supposed to be and she can finally see their destiny.
If you like horror, cult-like society, obsessed MMC who knows everything that happens, an FMC who is determined to unlock all the secrets and try to find a way out before she falls for the devil, then this is for you.
(I’m hoping for more gore next book and reading the triggers for book two I think it will definitely have it.)
Natalie Bennett is an auto-buy and auto-read author for me, I will read anything she writes.. I love how dark and twisty her stories are and some of her characters truly embody morally black the best.!
This man Alexander, or Diabolus, truly is a toxic mess of a man but you can’t say he isn’t the most devoted and loyal husband, even if Lolita didn’t ask for it.
Alex has been stalking Lolita for years without her knowledge and finally one night ends up at her workplace as a customer, he offers her wine and she ends up drugged and chained to a wall in a bedroom on a random island (Strygian Isle) and forced into a marriage with Mr. Diabolus himself. But he does it in the name of his undying love he has for her and treats her like the queen she is so he doesn’t see a problem and soon, she starts to see things from his POV while also plotting escape.
This is a take on Stockholm Syndrome that I personally love, it is definitely a bonus that Lolita’s captor is devastatingly handsome and the best lover.. well that may be subjective but with how hard he rides for his girl I wouldn’t care that he carved his name into my leg, and got off to watching me bleed his name / bleed in general while bending me over.. he also is the leader of a satanic like cult/custom that is pretty depraved, bloody and ruthless.. not everyone’s thing though totally get that! I loved it, this is true Natalie Bennett style and I devoured it as I have all of her stories! Check TW’s but if it sounds interesting to you I HIGHLY recommend.
I felt like I was experiencing everything as though I was a captive along with Lolita Only getting the corner and edge pieces of the puzzle Unsure and slightly apprehensive of what was hiding just out of sight I love that in a horror read - the edge-of-your-seat suspense and tension The anxiety of not knowing
"He was a dark angel, emerging into a swath of daylight. "
Lolita has just been plucked from her reality and finds herself the prize in a bizarre and twisted world where one man, Diabolus, rules all Including her
" relationship. What a delusion of normalcy that had been warped and twisted" Hawthorne is so casual about what he is doing. There were times I questioned my reactions He is the anointed one, the supreme deity, so why would he question anything? I am so torn on whether he believes this or is just a manipulative baaaa
There are so many little clues that are just passed around willy-nilly you have to pay attention Like why she was chosen. How the island worked. How the cult operates. Her fate. A couple of my guesses were verified towards the end by our esteemed leader and others I collected and added to the pile of puzzle pieces I have questions and I have multiple hypotheses I need the next book to get some answers
This is one of those reads that will hit for some and miss for others It was a hit for me - I read this in one sitting Each page a little darker dragging me in a little deeper It has the cult mentality, d/cnc, kidna[pping, scenes of crimson splatter, and much more It does have some darker elements but I think the real show is yet to come
For me the book started off really good and towards the middle it felt like the flow of it just stopped. First of all this is my first book by this author and i really liked her style of writing so it will definitely not be my last book by her. The story itself had me intrigued from the beginning and so did the characters.
My biggest problem with this is that I feel like we got a lot but also not enough. Once he had her where he wanted her the story didn't go anywhere. It was kind of frustrating having this man telling her "ur mine" "this is where you belong " " you're meant to be here" but its still being mad secretive about everything. He wanted her to submit and be ok with everything but wasn't willing to actually give her any type of information.
The relationship between them definitely started rocky and yes I completely understand this man is supposed to be a super dark morally gray dude, but their relationship had so much potential if only he would actually have tried to bring her in the fold. She was definitely attracted to him and he had a lot of sweet moments. BUT bc she got no info and he would do whatever he pleases with her there was no moment or time for them to built an actual connection.
All of this made me frustrated a bit but I didn't want to keep guessing about what was happening or why I just wanted to KNOW. Now don't get me wrong I did like the book but it would have been an amazing book with a little bit more information.
Natalie Bennett’s books are not just a book to be read but a story to experience. Muerte is an experience. After reading Diablo I thought it couldn’t get darker well it did. This book is an erotic secret sculpt horror book. It has many disturbing scenes ( which I crave ) but to make sure you understand that this is a cult of the darkest kind. These people have no Moral compass and the women they obsess to be theirs are not willing. It’s a struggle to read many of the horrific and gory rituals and / punishments but this is about a cult based on secrets, an unholy alliance with the Idles itself and the struggle of the women who find that the men who possess them will never let them go. It’s story with twists and turns and secrets unfolding and a strong willed women who through it all has the drive to try to figure a way not to lose herself to these doctrines and the man who is trying to break her free will. It’s a type of book that will make you wince and then take a deep breath and start reading and feel yourself go deeper and deeper emotionally into this dark cult and those who rule and those who are ruled… I loved every word, every twist and every horror filled gory act! This ends on a cliffy but the next book is now ready to read! Join us and walk with those who are captive on Stygian Isles and embrace the darkness in this very well written book!
Oh my stars this book had me gripped and captivated from start to finish. I was either holding my breath, on the edge of my seat or hyperventilating. The story had me in its hold and didn’t let me go until I reached that stunning cliffhanger. The book also I my thoughts all over the place. Is this a cult or is this a man completely obsessed? After reading I’d conclude both of the above. But also so much more. Aléxander is an intriguing character. He’s complex and intricate. So many layers to him and I can’t wait until the author peals back all his layers and reveals his very core and essence. To be honest I was quite taken with him. Even after seeing his ruthless and cruel side. Maybe because of the mysterious nature of him. Or maybe it’s the power and confidence that oozes from him and gives him that energy that just can’t be ignored. Lolita is simply a young lady trying to make ends meet. Surviving day by day. And trying to make the best out of her difficult life and situation. She piqued my interest. I could not quite figure her out. Is she smart and biding her time? Is she docile or weak? Maybe a bit of both? Only time will tell. This dark twisted tale enthralled me to no end. I was reading to savor each word while at the same time trying to read as fast as possible so I could flip to the next page. And I can’t wait for the next book!
From the information I got about this book I thought it would be something that I would really enjoy….. unfortunately I didn’t. It took me a while to read it and I had to keep stopping as it just wasn’t keeping me interested.
I love anything dark, the darker the better, as in pitch black. Some readers may find this book to that level of darkness. I personally didn’t. Yes there is some graphic scenes of torture, the FMC is pretty much abused from the moment she is kidnapped, and the MMC is an absolute crackpot but it just didn’t do it for me.
I can’t fault the writing, the author has a way with words and will build the world around them, everything is explained and the plot is built up. I just got bored as I found it very slow.
The last 15% of the book was probably the best bit for me. I needed to keep reading to see what was going to happen next and I will probably read the next book (which I’m hoping picks up it’s pace more) to see how it all comes together. I kind of guessed the last information drop at the beginning of the story.
The book is full of triggers so always check those.
I really did want to love this story but it just fell flat. I did like the gruesome parts though 😂
