Murder in the Mix #10

Macaron Massacre

Rate this book
All books in the series can be read individually but are best enjoyed in order.

My name is Lottie Lemon, and I see dead pets. On occasion I see a once-upon a human, too, but mostly it’s just cute little furry beasts who have come back from the other side to warn me of their previous owners impending doom.

Mayor Nash is up for reelection and I’ve been asked to furnish the sweet treats for his campaign kickoff. So when I stumble upon a corpse at the party everything predictably goes haywire. But this isn’t just any old corpse, this is a personal attack on our family. Not to mention the fact that someone seems to be stalking Everett. Something isn’t right in Honey Hollow. It seldom is. There is only one saving grace in this chaos and it’s the fact that Nell Sawyer is back. If I have anything to say about it, she’ll be back for good—and the only way to ensure that is to let the case grow cold.

Lottie Lemon has a brand new bakery to tend to, a budding romance with perhaps one too many suitors, and she has the supernatural ability to see dead pets—which are always harbingers for ominous things to come. Throw in the occasional ghost of the human variety, a string of murders, and her insatiable thirst for justice, and you’ll have more chaos than you know what to do with.

Living in the small town of Honey Hollow can be murder.

I have no idea how to describe how awesome this series is, but Addison Moore just keeps on doing an amazing job with it. I have no idea where the series will end up, but I’m completely hooked…. The twists and turns that keep happening are incredible and they’re enough to keep you reading. I do feel for Lottie because she’s an amazing character and her life isn’t exactly easy for her at the minute. But I do love how Addison has developed the story for her. It’ll be interesting to see what the path is for her because she has got a choice to make, but it looks like fate and destiny have other ideas for her instead. I can’t wait to see what happens next, but I know we’re going to be in for a right treat.

Lottie’s main career in life is baking, but she can’t help but dive into the investigations that keep popping up in her little village. Her relationship seems to be going well, and now with Noah in on her secret of her seeing and talking to ghosts, she seems to be coping a little better…. Although, things are still tricky because she has conflicted feelings for both Noah and Essex, and with them both still trying to win her love and affection she doesn’t know what to do because she is still hurting inside. But whilst she’s dealing what that, she ends up being roped into another investigation but this time things are getting more serious as it seems that she could be in danger.

Macaron Massacre by Addison Moore is the 10th book in the Murder in the Mix series. This series is about Lottie Lemon. A baker with the abillity to see dead pets and when she sees them awful things are about to happen. I really like this series! As always Addison Moore's writing is amazing.

This series just keeps getting better with each story. Lottie is learning more of her powers per se and it’s great to see how much she has learned. And let’s not forget her suitors I just adore Everett and Noah both vying for her. And that ending was everything. I can’t wait to see what happens next. 💛

Okay, so I've made it to book #14 in this series, and I feel like I need to post a review for all the books I've read up to this point. These books rea all set pretty close together, so it's almost like you're reading one big, long story or watching a TV drama or soap opera. There are some really fun, interesting things in these books, and some other things that are problematic.

Things that I like:

The setting - Honey Hollow is one of those adorable little towns that exist almost exclusively in rom-com books or cozy TV shows. Think Stars Hollow, but in Vermont. It's the kind of town that has absolutely no major corporations in the downtown area. No McDonald's, no Walmart's, nothing. Everything is family owned. Every business decorates for whatever event/holiday/season is coming up or going on and everyone in town is always at every event. I'm here for that. If I could find this kind of town in RL, I would be in heaven. I'm sure that some place, somewhere, is like this, and I haven't found it yet, so that's why I'm saying it's almost exclusively in books or shows. But I do really love this little town.

Most of the side characters - I love Keelie and Meg the most of the side characters, but Lainey, Brittany, and even Cormack are fun and have enough quirks to keep them interesting. I'm not saying they are perfect, but they are a lot of fun and I want a friend group just like them.

The premise - I'm not going to do spoilers for any of the books, but this isn't really a spoiler, since it is literally the first paragraph in every book. Lottie's power is really cool and something different from the normal cozy mystery realm. She sees ghosts of pets and people who are there to help her solve a murder of someone they are close to. Love this idea. It's really what sets this series apart from the other cozy mystery type stories. The fact that her powers do grow and shift, and her reaction to them, is something that seems like normal reactions.

Everett - I really like Everett. He's understanding, has his own demons, is a calming force on Lottie, and really cares about her. He tells her things that he's hidden from others in the past, which just shows how much he cares for her. And he's willing to give her time to figure things out on her own. He also supports her in everything, but mostly in her investigations. He knows she's going to do whatever it is she's going to do, so he tags along to make sure she's as safe as she can be in the situation. He doesn't try to fit her in a box of his own expectations, but lets her be her own person, which is very refreshing.

Things I'm on the fence about:

Lottie - Yes, the FMC herself. First of all, I do like Lottie. She has a lot of good points, and she genuinely cares about people and is fiercely loyal to her friends and family. She is stubborn and keeps going, no matter what obstacles are in her way. I like that part of her. However, the other part of her is a complete mess. The woman cannot make up her mind about her love life and frankly, it's pretty darn annoying. I get that it's easy to be attracted to two different men at once, but if she actually sat down and looked at how each of them treats her, she would be able to make her choice. That part of her makes her seem kind of airheaded and jealous all the time. I really don't like that treatment of her, even though those are normal emotions and behaviors, and she is relatable. But given how focused she is in her business and the other parts of her life, it's almost like the author is afraid to make a choice for Lottie and make someone mad. Which just leaves everything in a long, drawn-out romantic triangle that no one really asked for.

Things I really don't like -

Both of Lottie's mothers - Look, the backstory of Lottie's birth mom having been a teenage who got pregnant and left her to be adopted by her "parents" is good. Love the back story and the support Lottie gets from her adoptive family is great. But both of her moms act like they are mean girls in high school and the only thing they have to do is fight each other over who has which guy as a boyfriend now. After hearing about how much Miranda loved her deceased husband and spent 10 years not dating, to have her having a revolving door of dates now seems a bit of an overkill. I do think that people can and should have meaningful relationships after their SO's pass on, but her relationships seem so superficial and juvenile. Carlotta, on the other hand, has every reason to distrust men (that we know of. We don't get a whole lot of background on where she was and what happened for the 29 years she was gone), but she just jumps back into competing with Miranda for every man in her life. It's very 1980's soap opera-ish. And really, it's somewhat distracting to the main stories.

The constant repetition - There are certain words/phrases/paragraphs that seem as if they are just lifted from one book and dropped right into the next. Do we really need the first paragraph (which is also the blurb for every single book) about Lottie and her ability to see the dead? Couldn't the author think of a different way to work it in somewhere in the first chapter or so? Why don't we get any background as to why Lottie's powers are suddenly escalating? But nope, just the same "I'm Lottie Lemon and I see dead pets." every single story. Also, why does everyone refer to Lottie almost exclusively as Lottie Lemon? It's not like Lainey comes in and someone always says, "Lainey Lemon!" I'm sure there are multiple ways to keep putting her last name in there, if that's what the author is really wanting to do. And the shoulder shimmy and hip bump. It's like those phrases are used 40-50 times per book. The books are not that long at all. There is no reason for someone's shoulders to do a shimmy every other chapter or so.

Noah - I know this will probably cause some hurt feelings, but Noah is not a likeable character. He is controlling and stalkerish. His and Lottie's meet cute was cute. I enjoyed that. But then, Noah got problematic. I enjoyed the beginning of his relationship with Lottie. He was her pick, and Everett was there in the background, but I was fine with Noah. UNTIL Brittany showed up. Do you mean to tell me in SIX MONTHS Noah couldn't find one second to have a serious conversation with the woman he said he was falling in love with to tell her that his divorce was not finalized yet? Oh, his bad. He "forgot" to tell her. Just like he "forgot" to tell her that he put a tracker on her car. Is that even legal? Oh, and cameras pointing at her front door? Really? Hello, stalker. And when Lottie, who did not want to be the other woman, tells him that yes, she has feelings for him, but she is done with him because of his wife, he refuses to accept that. Instead of figuring out his relationship with Brittany (and Cormack -but that's next), he continuously busts in on Lottie and Everett. That really bothered me. Lottie set boundaries and eventually, when things had settled down, she and Noah could have been really good friends, but he refuses to accept the boundaries. He constantly interrupts Lottie and Everett, breaking in whenever they are alone and making snide comments about Everett. You know who doesn't do that later? Everett. When he tells Lottie to figure out who she wants to be with, he even says no to getting physical with Lottie so she can decide for herself between Noah and Everett. But Noah? Nope, Lottie is his toy and he can't stand other people touching his toys. And then, he "accidentally" gets engaged to Cormack and "can't find a way" to tell her that they are actually not engaged. He takes her on dates. Takes her to dinner. Takes her to relationship counseling. Let's Cormack throw them an engagement party. And through all of this, he keeps telling Lottie that "he just can't figure out how to get Cormack to understand." Idk, dude. Maybe stop taking her on dates? Slap her with a restraining order? You're a detective. Figure it out. OH, and that brings me the worst part of Noah (if you can believe that). He doesn't want a relationship with Lottie. He wants to own her and to put her in a box or on a shelf. The whole first part of their relationship is him telling Lottie to stay out of everything and be a good girl and get back in the kitchen. Look, I get she's a baker and he's trying to keep her safe. But there is ALWAYS a point in the books that he realizes she's far ahead of him in the investigation and all of a sudden, it's fine for her to be involved. As long as she follows his rules and does exactly what he says.

So, I read through the first 13 pretty quickly and have started 14. But I think I'm going to take a break, because the things I am annoyed with are slowly starting to outweigh the things that I like about this book series. Hopefully, when I go back and pick it up again, I'll be able to enjoy the stories once again.

A book about women fighting over men

2.5 ☆'s rounded up to three (just barely)  because I like the author's writing style in the last half of the book, and felt like I kind of got to know one of the other characters. (Noah.)

This is an entire book about women fighting over men. The MC has one true female friend but every other woman in the story dislikes each other to some extent because they either dated someone in common or because they want one of the two men in love with the MC. Everyone has dated everyone else, which seems kind of weird, especially because they're all still interacting so much. Like everyone is trapped in high school. Can no one find another restaurant? Or bakery?

This is my first book by the author, free on kindle, and they should be read in order. Too many characters with too much backstory, once again, all about who has dated whom. We learn there have been 9 murders in the 9 months before this with few details. There's a murder in this one, with a clumsy investigation. The murder plot wasn't at all interesting until the last few pages, when a different crime takes place, setting up the next book. I'm mildly curious but not enough to read another one of these books.

Overall a cute writing style and some funny dialogue near the end of the book but I couldn't get past the way women talked about and treated each other. Won't be reading any more in this series.

Okay. Wow. Macaron Massacre pulled out ALL of the stops this go around. Lottie is back, and this time, things get really crazy. I honestly can't think of much to say without giving the whole story away. And I CANNOT do that to anyone reading this review. So I will just leave a couple of bullet points. And just say, hang on to your seats!! Addison is taking you for one helluva ride!!!

1- GUESS WHO'S BACK!
2- The suspect list in this book is insane, and you will never guess who did it!!
3- Two BIG BIG moments in the ending!!

Good luck putting this one down!!!

Again really...triangle

Another female with 2 love interest and can’t decide....gee how original. 🙄Of course the guys know and this time they are somewhat related. 🥴 Reading slow, so I skipped ahead. Will not read any others in this series. So I guess I won’t know who she choose. 🥺 How the author could drag it out and others stay interested is beyond me.🥴

Maybe it's because I came in on book ten, but the story telling is scattered and the characters are in no way likeable. Cheating, my pet peeve, abounds; and that's just in the first two chapters.

Today I'm back with one of my new favourite series, Murder in the Mix Mysteries, and book 10, Macaron Massacre.

Mayor Nash is up for re-election and Lottie's mom, Miranda, has attached herself to the campaign... and the Mayor! However, Miranda's soon-to-be-ex-boyfriend, Rich Dallas, is not happy about this. Especially as he is the insanely possessive and controlling type. When Rich turns up dead, Lottie isn't surprised, nor unhappy, but it turns out that a lot of people wanted Rich dead, so Lottie will have her work cut out for her trying to find the killer!

I love this series. Yes, it is cozy mysteries, but they are very soap opera-ish and very more-ish! Much like macarons, I can't just read one, I need more, more, more! Luckily for me there is a large backlist in this series and I'm slowly making my way through them.

For several books now I thought Rich would make an ideal murder victim and it turns out I was right! Lottie's mom's controlling boyfriend has got to go! Naturally the perfect time is at his birthday party, with Miranda and Mayor Nash being set up for the crime!

I did guess the murderer before Lottie, but not all the pieces that tied him to the crime, and the final denouement was very thrilling.

Besides the mystery there is a lot going on in Lottie's life. Ghostly Nell is back telling her things of the future, and Noah is still trying to win her back. To top it off it appears that Everett has a stalker. With an absolute banger of a cliffhanger [where we find out who Lottie's birth Dad is! Shh!! I won't tell!] this might be my favourite in the series so far.

If you like a lot of action and hilarity in your mysteries, you've got to read this series. Think if Stephanie Plum ran a bakery... and you'll understand why it's one of my favourites!

Guess who got their just desserts?

Macaron Massacre is the 10th book in the Murder in the Mix series by Addison Moore and each installment is better and sassier than that last. Town baker by trade and reluctant spectral channeller by cruel fate, Lottie Lemon once again finds herself on the hunt for a killer in Honey Hollow. Using her supersensual gift, Lottie attempts to solve this case with the help of the ghost of grandmothers past, her beloved Nell, which allows her the ability to verbalize the specifics of the case and send Nell off to spy on potential suspects. When the Lottie stumbles upon the latest deadly disaster she discovers there appears to be no love lost over their untimely demise. In fact, this person has more enemies than she thought possible and many even seem pleased to be rid of them. But who would go so far as to commit the ultimate sin and doesn't the deceased deserve justice? Lottie struggles with her innate desire to solve cases and the desperation not to lose Nell again, which seems inevitable once the killer is caught. Can she truly part with her beloved adopted grandmother whom she just got back once the case is complete? Addison's writing keeps you on the edge of your seat 'til the very last page. You won't be able to put this book down as I'm sure you won't have been able to put down the previous in this sarcastically delightful series.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I can not believe that Addison can keep coming up with these awesome books, but she has done it yet again. I really do love to read these books and I am always so excited to read any of her books when they come out, but this series has to be my favorite. Lottie and the gang feel like family.

This was such a great read. Lottie and the gang got up to a lot of no good. The bodies always seem to follow Lottie around, this time she did not want to solve the mystery though as Nell was the ghost that came back to help her find the murder. Lottie finally gives in and starts searching for the murder and does find who the murder is, but just when she thought all was done and everything was good for a while she got more bad news....

The ending of this book is just crazy. I am holding my breath and waiting for the next book to come out. I sure do hope it comes out soon as I am waiting for it and know it will just be another hit.

You do not have to have read any of the other books in this series to read this one, but I suggest you read them from the start and you will be as hooked as I am.

This series just gets better and better! Lottie is a baker and the owner of the best bakery in town. But on the side, she is kind of a detective of sorts. Whenever there's a dead body, Lottie is the one to find it and also the one to solve the mystery of whodunnit! This time, it is with the help of her favorite person–dead person– Nell, who also is her biological grandmother who gifted her practically the whole Honey Hollow! They have these powers where they can communicate with the dearly departed. Neat power, huh?! Basically the spirits, be they animal or human, help Lottie solve the murder mystery! Plus, a love triangle where us readers cannot decide on who to side with! A hot detective or a sexy Judge! I'm so torn between the two!

I can't wait to get my hands on the next installment, as always!

Honey Hollows town sleuth is at it again! This time there isnt much love loss for the victim. Turns out, Lotties mothers beau had quite a few enemies. This one isnt going to be so easy. Especially since Lotties heart is still being torn between the two heartthrobs Noah and Everrett. At the same time, a woman shows up and starts stalking Lottie and Everrett. With drama getting turned up a notch in her own life, Lottie has to prove she can solve this case and keep the bad juju from her sisters wedding. I mean, how much more crazy could things get for Lottie? Trust me, the ending will not disappoint!

I have been a huge fan of Addison Moore’s books for years, but with this series oh mylanta! As another dead body shows up, Lottie tries to stay out of it just to keep Nell with her longer. Her heart pulled in two different directions with love for two men. Strange encounters with a woman, who seems to be watching her. A killer on the loose and a thirst, no matter how hard she tries to ignore it, for justice. How much more complicated can life get?
One thing I love about Addisons books is you forget it’s a story, the characters become family. I find myself ranging through a copious amount of emotions. The tears I shed at the end of this book, the shock, and the horror solidified me coming back for more!
These are stand alone books but I personally would say start from the beginning! So many aspects roll over to each book it’s a shame if you missed out on any of it.
Until the adventure begins again in the Wedding Cake Carnage I’ll have to sit here and wait to see if my conspiracy theory is correct pertaining to the mystery woman and the end of the book!

**Spoilers**

I am truly enjoying the Murder In The Mix series. The way Lottie plays an amateur slueth and constantly finds herself in crazy situations makes me laugh. Goat yoga, the cool 'kids' doing the Macarena on her back, a head full of goat pellets. Hahaha, I about lost it. I can't believe how Carlotta blurted out Lottie's paternity. It will be interesting to see how things play out with that. And I can't believe Everett is missing. I really like him and Lottie together. I am on pins & needles for the next book to see what happens!

Honey Hollow has it's very own amateur detective, one who has an interesting talent for seeing dead pets. Lottie is yet again in the thick of it with another dead body and a mystery to solve. Things are getting hairy and with decisions to make, Lottie has her hands full.

I love Addison's books, the towns and characters she brings to life within the pages. The Murder in the Mix series is phenomenal and, while it can be read in any order, I would start at the beginning so you get the fullest experience.

Well done to Mrs. Moore for another successful story. Can't wait to read the next book, Wedding Cake Carnage!

Oh my goodness....this book is too good! Lottie Lemon sure has a lot going on. She's found another body and this time it's one of mother's boyfriends who she's not exactly fond of. While she didn't really care for the man, she still has to seek justice for him. This time Nell is here to help! The murder mystery is of course a great part of the story, but there is so much more going on in this book I can't even begin to get into it all. I don't want to spoil it for anyone. All I can say is if you've been following Lottie and her love triangle, you must read this book!!! I know I can't for the next one!!!

Lottie Lemon is an easygoing baker with a quirky knack for seeing the dead, pets, humans, you name it. But baking is quickly turning out to be a side gig for her detective skills that amaze even the brooding Detective Fox. Her heart is irrevocably tied between two men who love her, who help and protect her as she flips Honey Hollow upside down looking for the culprit. Lottie is thirsty for justice and all that is right. With her sleuthing and interrogation, nothing can stop her. We think, after all, it’s a bloody, bloody massacre. Hey, but the macarons are good! Try one before the bodies start popping up. Addison is amazing with words, I’m laughing, crying, and loving this series.

There comes a time a book is so good and has an end so shocking that it leaves you speechless, and this is one of those times! Ever since finishing this book a couple days ago, I have been trying to wrap my head around the conclusion as it was one I never saw coming. This book has so many mysteries within itself it is any sleuths dream read, as it will keep you guessing until the very end. Love the characters within this town and everytime I get to read a new book, it feels like visiting old friends!

I just love this series and the little antics Lottie gets into. I love reading about her powers and they are getting stronger. There’s a cliffhanger at the end of this book. I’m hooked I need to read more!

Lottie gets a surprise visit from Nell and she fears that this time it’s going to be someone she loves dearly that falls victim to murder. Nell warns her that Everett is in danger and it puts Lottie on super defense.

Where to start...this book was riveting! Addison has yet to write a book that I don't like. This series especially has romance, murder, mystery, comedy, and everything in between. Lottie, Noah, and Everett and all the other Honey Hollow friends and family help Lottie to search for clues to solve the latest murder. I will say the ending made me so sad and I can't wait to get my hands on the next book in the series to see what the fate is for one of my favorite characters! I also now have a craving for macarons!!!

Well written with a great plot and characters. I was absorbed from beginning to end. This series has murder, mystery, humor, and romance. In Honey Hollow Lottie, Noah and Everett are looking for clues to another murder. Also Lottie got a surprise visitor. I didn't see the ending coming.....which is a cliffhanger. I need the next book ASAP! Addison Moore is an amazing author, I have been a fan for years now and she never disappoints! Lottie has another murder to solve and this one has her second guessing herself. When she sees the spirit of Nell is who has been sent to help her, she decides maybe she doesn't want to solve this murder in order to spend more time with Nell. Fate, however, has other ideas and Lottie finds herself at another cross roads. Now we shall see what Addison Moore has in store for us with this ending. I have been waiting to see what will happen with Lottie and her 2 beaus, but this is not something I really saw coming. Can't wait to see what happens next.

I'm loving Kindle Unlimited. I'm working my way through this whole series. The suspense in this book hits close to home for Lottie on several points. It's definitely her most personal story yet.

I thought this would be a cozy series, but it's a little too much romance and smut, not descriptive sex scenes, but a whole lot of talk about it, including some racier stuff, which surprised me. So this may turn off some readers expecting a clean cozy.

These books can definitely be finished in a day if you like shorter reads.

Well. The twist at the end of the previous book didn’t bring about any of the scenarios I was expecting. However, it was a perfect lead in to all the shenanigans and tomfoolery we’ve come to expect from Lottie and her quirky band of sidekicks, (ie: her best friend and sisters). Once more, the villain’s motive at least partially escaped me even though their identity wasn’t a surprise. And, once again we have a sudden twist to close out the story that has left me very grateful that I can start reading the next book immediately.
