REVIEW: 4.25 stars--KINDRED MAGIC is the second instalment in Melody Raven’s contemporary, adult DANGEROUS MAGIC paranormal, sci-fi, urban fantasy series focusing on a powerful witch Sonia Shaw-a spin of from the author’s NEW BREED series. KINDRED MAGIC should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events of book one Blood Magic; there is an ongoing premise throughout.
Told from first person perspective (Sonia Shaw) and third person (Carter Blackburn) KINDRED MAGIC continues to follow witch Sonia Shaw as she is contracted to work in the DMD (Dangerous Magic Department) of Homeland Security. With the recent and complicated death of her lover Ian, and the betrayal by Carter’s girlfriend Amy, Sonia and Carter are barely able to acknowledge one another as Sonia was the person to reveal the truth. When Sonia is tasked with protecting a man who sold his soul to the proverbial devil, our heroine will soon discover that the soul marker has been bought by someone she knows.
Meanwhile, the return of the recently deceased forces Sonia to rethink what happened and why as Sonia’s estranged but powerful father Gideon Shaw has also returned, and with it too many unanswered questions that threaten Sonia’s peace of mind. Carter Blackburn is determined to prove Sonia is not the woman she proclaims herself to be, a determination that places Sonia in the direct line of fire.

To distract herself she decides to start helping Gabbie find her Brother. They have a couple of leads but it gets put on the back burner when they're called in to start a full case for the DMD (Dangerous Magic Division). A
Superstar Actor, Brock Dresden, needs their help after striking a deal he wasn't even sure was real initially. He's sure now though & payment is due within the week!!😳
Carter has always had a huge chip on his shoulder regarding Sonia's criminal past. He & his late partner, Ian, were never able arrest her & to have her working for law enforcement now doesn't sit easily for him! This is tipped way, say over the line when he's sent a video of her committing a heinous act!😱 What will be decide to do??💥😞
I loved this book. It said the reading time was just over 5 hours, but it was finished as soon as I started, at least that's how it felt.😄 I was so completely absorbed in the fast paced & gripping story!!😍 Carter shocked me to my core!!😡 I can't wait for Death Magic book #3 🌟

I read this under its new title of Lone Witch.
Sonia wakes up the morning after Amy's arrest to find that her boss had been trying to get in touch with her all morning. Dragging herself to work, she gets a shock when she sees her dead lover Ian in the conference room laughing with her coworkers like she hasn't just visited his grave the night before. When he doesn't seem to recognize her, Sonia knows this is not Ian. She has no idea who NotIan really is, but there is no way the real Ian wouldn't know her. Melanie assures her that she will get to the bottom of what is going on and NotIan so not be leaving the building until she does. Hmmm. There is obviously something that Melanie and Sonia know that we don't...
Sonia decides to distract herself by helping Gabbie look for her missing brother- it was either that or paperwork. They get one lead, but the followup is delayed when the group gets a real case. It seems a well-known movie star has traded his soul for his stardom and the marker is about to be called in. Sonia is put on protection detail but she does some investigating on her own. She finds out that her father is somehow involved with the demon who has Brock's marker and he has been sent to handle the collection. Sonia has an idea how to stop him, but it doesn't go exactly to plan...

This is Kindred Magic, book 2 of the Dangerous Magic series written by Melody Raven. You have to read book 1 to understand book 2. Sonia Shaw found and lost the love of her life in the first book. As we pick up here in Kindred Magic, Sonia is trying to sort out how Ian is back from the dead....but not really himself. Add to that the job of protecting a movie star that actually sold his soul to the devil and here we are. As wary as Sonia is to have parts of Ian back, Carter is overjoyed to have his best friend back. Or is he...? There are a lot of elements going on at the same time here but Ms Raven keeps them flowing at break neck speed. Will Sonia be able to prove that Ian is really NotIan? Will Carter just blindly trust that NotIan is really his best friend back from the grave? What will Carter do once he thinks that Sonia is guilty? I can't wait for the next book in this series!

This is the second book in a spin off from the New Breed series. The book is told in first person with the main character, Sonia, being the most powerful witch in the world. She is part of a team that has formed with Homeland Security. The story picks up where the last one ended. There is still friction between Sonia and Carter with more later in the book due to "NotIan". Sonia is working with Gabbie to help find her brother. A lot happens in this book and we are left with another cliffhanger. I'm looking forward to reading the next one to see how everything will play out. I read this book with my kindle unlimited subscription and I am voluntarily giving my honest review.

Another great book in this new series. Plenty of suspense. The tension is still there between Sonia and Carter and I don't know if there will be an end in sight for them! lol I really do love all the characters in the series. I can not wait for book 3. It seems the author want's to keep us in suspense as to what is to come! To me this ended in another cliffhanger but I am sure it will all be worth it in the end. I highly recommend picking up book 1 and book 2. You won't regret it!

This one was a little bit sad. I really felt for Sonia. She does a pretty good job keeping it together even though it’s obvious how much it’s hurting her. I’m not sure how well I would do in her situation.
The plot is definitely thickening and there are many new mysteries to solve. I love the twists and I’m very curious what Sonia and her group are going to uncover in the next segment. Can’t wait for Death Magic. (4.5⭐️)

Wow! Fantastic.
I cannot say how good this series is. I started the first book this morning.... And I have just finished the second book because I could not stop. Absolutely, mind blowingly brilliant. True edge-of-your-seat, gripping thriller.
Now I'm desperate for the next book. And wow. Again.

OMG, loved this!
This was great! I loved how the story is progressing and how Sonia is spiralling as Carter keeps making mistakes based on misinformation. I’m really hoping he has a moment of reckoning in the next book where he has to face his actions because in this book he stepped over a line I don’t think Sonia will forgive.

Kindred Magic, Dangerous Magic book two by Melody Raven. Wow! The second book in the series is fantastic. Great characters & great storyline. My only complaint is that this series ends with cliffhangers. Not my favorite. But I definitely can’t wait to read the next book.

Grief is such a burden. It weighs on your mind, on your thoughts, on your body, on your soul and on your heart. It makes the world grey, empty and dark. And when the loss is unexpected and violent, grief walks in the company of guilt and regret.
Melody's writing poignantly conveys these feelings, and brings forth the reality of life still moving forward. One day at a time, the world still goes on, in a painful and wonderful way, dragging Sonia and Brian with it, trying to do the right thing.... Fast paced and unexpected, this is a very good read.
I'm really looking forward to the next book in the series!
