Adam I've got it bad for my best friend, but he's only had eyes for my sister since we were kids. I don't know what I'll do if they hook up -- especially after a drunken kiss West doesn't seem to remember. Seeing them together just might kill me, so why I offer to help him hone his dating skills, I'll never know. FML.
West Ever since a drunken kiss we haven't talked about, I've been seeing Adam in a new light. Trouble is, he thinks I want his sister. This whole bisexual awakening thing is scary, and I don't want to risk our friendship by moving too fast. But when Adam mocks my dating skills, I come up with a genius plan: Five Fake Dates. Adam thinks he's helping me, and I get to test the waters without risking our friendship. Win-win!
A few fake dates, increasingly real kisses, and a tiny deception between friends. What could go wrong?
Five Fake Dates was originally written for a promotional giveaway to fans. It has been expanded to approximately 27,000 words and now has a little more spice and a bonus epilogue with HEA!
DJ Jamison writes a variety of queer men finding extraordinary love through M/M Romance! She is a lifelong reader and has always loved writing and editing, with a ten-year journalism career before she began publishing romance. She has books in ebook, print, and audio, as well as German, French, and Italian translations.
DJ lives in Kansas with her husband, two sons, and a sadistic cat named Birdie.
I read an extended version of this book, which includes an epilogue, and thought it was rather adorable.
I mean, the premise is silly: straightish boy crushing on his best friend's older sister figures out he wants his male friend instead and woes him with "fake dates" under the guise of impressing said sister. But the execution is a lot of fun.
I could forgive the constant misunderstandings because the MCs are college freshmen when the story begins, and maturity is not their strong suit.
I liked the dual POV and the sexual experimentation aspect. The story ends with a HEA.
I wish that last misunderstanding hadn't happened, but I don't see these guys breaking up.
This is a cute, sexy, low angst read requiring maybe an hour of your time.
Cute and a bit silly, this is a good short story to read in between longer books. The fake-relationship trope for which this appeared on my radar in the first place is nonexistent, though. The relationship was already established, the more-than-friendship feelings too, the fake dating was just an excuse one of the two friends came up with to test the waters before revealing the truth.
I enjoyed reading the first half. Things seem to be a little rushed and yes, expect some cringy moments. Most of the dialogues and the events seem half-baked. Well, one time easy read.
For such a short novella it was surprisingly good. Usually something this short leaves me feeling unsatisfied because I don’t feel that I know the characters very well. I loved both Adam and West and enjoyed how quickly and easily they went from best friends to lovers. I also appreciated that there wasn’t some contrived breakup right before the end. A sweet read for in between other books.
This was a very quick, low to no angst light and sweet GFY. It combines two of my favorite tropes, fake dating and GFY featuring long time best friends. It was very short so there wasn’t any over the top, unnecessary drama. I love it when the friend that has always identified as straight but starts to recognize emotional or sexual feelings towards his friend, then fully and openly embraces his feelings or the need to explore those feelings. It gives me heart eyes for days to see two people who have been friends for years to finally “SEE that person” for the first time....dreamy sigh. Anyway, this novella might not knock your socks off, but it left me feeling happy and satisfied. It’s a perfect quick read for when you’re needing something light and sweet. It happened to be exactly what I was looking for.
This was a 3.5 for me, my first DJ Jamison book, listened to this on audio and it was a cute story with just enough hot moments for how short it is. I can read more books from this author...👍🏼
West and Adams were so cute together. They were best friends, inseparable childhood friends and was even roommates through college.
West was the guy who just dive into things without thinking and Adam thinks too much. So it was so West-like to decide to chase after Adam by getting him to agree on five fake dates. The way they were together was just amusing and hilarious. From the title I was hoping for some fluffy low angst easy read and this did not disappoint. This is a read that puts a smile on your face.
I love friends-to-lovers and GFY/OFY. So this story was perfect for me. All syrupy sweet and perfect for a rainy afternoon. Was it a perfect story? Of course not. We're talking about two college-aged guys who decide to go on five fake dates, one thinking it's to practice to impress the other's sister, the other because he really wants his friend. But there was a good amount of romance and passion packed into such a short story.
2,75 * The start was a bit messy . We got some flashbacks here and there to acknowledge the current situation between the mcs and bammm ! The dates start! But the way they get into all this is not very convincing for me :/ something was off and the story don't get my attention. I really left this book aside several times. On pros the mcs are cute, and happy ending!
This was a cute novella. I really enjoyed the premise but I think it needed to be a full length novel to reach its full potential. It felt rushed and covered way to big of a time span for a novella.
3 FAKE STARS ⭐️ ________ FIVE FAKE DATES BY D.J.
Recomendado , no gay freak out , friends to lovers , MM , cute romance.
This is a best friends to more romance, featuring Adam and West, and is a standalone novella.
These two were so cute together! This is a low angst story with a little spice and whole lot of dating, it’s a great novella. I loved that West’s eyes were wide open after a little game of truth and dare with Adam. And once West knew, he was all in with Adam.
Things to expect in this book are: Standalone novella MM romance Best friends to more Roommates Secret crush Truth or dare Bi awakening Fake dates Admitting feelings Coming out Some spice HEA
Unexpected and totally adorable. Best "straight" friends realizes hes is not in love with the sister, but in love with his best friend. I didn't expect to love it so much, but this story is packed with cuteness, shyness, firsts, and cluelessness. Great short story.
This book was cute. It had great sexual tension and banter. It was hard to buy West's emotional journey about his sexuality, and for that reason, I won't give this book a rating, but I enjoyed it.
