I expected a thriller but this was pretty low key. MC seems to spend more time off the case than on it. Hard to stay interested. When the killer was finally named, I still had no idea who it was. Actually had to do a name search through the story to see where they came in.
Displacement - A Sylvia Wilcox Mystery is an intriguing read.
The storyline is well written and engaged my interest from start to finish. This story has a serial killer, danger, suspense, intrigue, and the death of her husband to investigate.
I am looking forward to reading more books by this author. I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.
This is my first book by this author and I enjoyed it. Sylvia, the main character, was likeable . The story flowed well. No ugly fowl language which is so refreshing. The story didn't leave a cliffhanger but, it left a major event in Sylvia's life unanswered. Maybe that will come in later books? There were a few editing typos. Nothing major that took your mind from the events.
I can tell much research goes into the writing and liked the surprise ending. The involvement of multiple suspects makes it intriguing too. The personal struggles of Wilcox and her commitment to Martin adds additional dimensions that connects the reader as well. This piece had several typos so I’d be happy to serve as a peer reviewer if interested as I’m fond of your works and want you to succeed further.
I really enjoyed this book and the previous book. Sylvia is coming across as a real person with real friends and family. I felt her pains and her doubts but she picks herself up and goes on. She has a core of strength that she is just realizing and I am cheering for her. Thank you for writing her story.
Great read with great characters and storyline. Taking time off work to try and adjust to her husbands death and trying to help solve other deaths. Deciding not to go back to be a cop. You must read to find out what really happens. I do recommend reading this book but I felt it was dragged out, but still a great read
My first issue with the book was MY issue - somehow I merged two characters and couldn't understand the good/bad relationship (until I sorted late in the book).
My second issue was more important (as someone else said) - there were lots of good suspects with good motives (reviewed and discussed frequently) but the killer? Not convincing.
This was another great Sylvia Wilcox read. I am confused, however, why this wasn't book one ? I enjoyed the mystery of the who done it, but thought the backstory of Derek's death detracted from it. Just my opinion.
This author has an amazing talent for writing mysteries. I just finished the second book in this series, and she was able to get me all the way to the end without me figuring out the villain. I love her style in storytelling. Truly a gifted author.
Kept my interest from beginning to end. Loved the characters, plot twists, etc. First time I've read this author and looking forward to more of her books!
This story kept you on your toes until the end. Loved the main character Sylvia. The ending left you hanging. Guess I will have to read the next book to find out if she finds her husband killer.
Sylvia has the weight of the world on her shoulders and wants to help people but she doesn't want to be police any more. She needs their help though as she knows her husband was murdered but doesn't know who or why. A good story with relatable characters.
Enjoying this series, as Sylvia Wilcox is coming to terms with the death of her husband, fellow cop Derek. Great reading with some colourful characters.
This book is a very enjoyable read. However the ending was a bit disappointing with an unlikely motive and no clues leading to the murderer. I would read more in the series though.
Not even John Grisham hits a literary home run every time and so it is with Braylee Parkinson. “Displacement” doesn’t rise to the level of one of her other books, “Who She Was.” Certain plot elements seem a bit of a stretch and the viewpoint character engages in dangerous activity that defies her police training. A number of issues are left unresolved, perhaps to be dealt with in a later book. But there’s no doubt that Sylvia Wilcox, a black female private detective and ex-cop is a fresh, likable and engaging protagonist.
This is an awesome mystery with Sylvia Wilcox investigating not only her own husband's murder but in another important multiple murder case that has grave consequences when the facts are uncovered. I love these characters and the story is well-written with a gripping story!
