Struggling acting student Meghan has been thrown out of the best acting class on campus. No one will cast her for fear of crossing the one professor with clout in Hollywood. When Derek, her best friend's brother, begins working on his freshman film he eagerly casts Meghan because he knows how well she can act, even if no one else is willing to agree with him. He's finally ready to tell her how he feels about her until he unknowingly casts Meghan's manipulative ex to play opposite her. Meghan gets a second chance at her acting career, but how will she get a second chance with Derek, the man who really loves her? Like all my stories, The First Rule is Quick , Hot , and Happily Ever After!
Kate Stone has always lived for romance. From the time she was very small, waiting for her Prince Charming to come and take her away, she has looked for the healing, redeeming power of love.
She drinks far too much coffee and loves sparkly things. She's convinced she survived breast cancer because she was unwilling to let tiny little cells tell her when to die. The chemo may have helped, too.
She lives in New England with her long-suffering husband and their four children. She spends her days as a graduate student and her weekends writing.
Meghan is asked to do a favor for her best friend's brother, Derek. He needs a lead actress in his film for his college class, so she decides to help him. Then she finds he cast her ex-boyfriend as the leading male in the film and things get a little awkward, because Meghan and Derek have started seeing each other. This is a short, cute read and I definitely enjoyed it!

The First Rule is an enjoyable short story about a young acting student, Meghan, who had a run in with one of her acting professor previously and now no one will cast her in any student projects. Then there is Derek, the brother of Meghan's best friend who has always had a thing for Meghan. Derek casts Meghan for his student film project and as the project progresses they become increasingly closer and closer with more and more chemistry bubbling over between them. However there are things that happen which Derek and Meghan will have to overcome in order to get to a HEA. This story is fun and enjoyable with good character development and some depth for a short story. I will definitely be reading more books by Kate Stone.
I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
Meghan is thrown out of an acting class taught by an important instructor and then everyone starts avoiding her. Derek is her best friend's brother and a film student. Meghan goes to see if he would like her to act a part in his film. Sparks fly between them and soon they are giving into each other. When she learns that Derek casted her ex as her co-star she worries about what could happen. However her ex tells her that he can help her with the instructor that booted her. Will she stay with Derek or go back to the man that turned his back on her?
This is a great story once I started it I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between them is off the charts hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

I loved this short story by Kate Stone. Meghan agrees to audition for her best friend's brother, Derek who is a student filmmaker. After a humiliating incident with one of her professors, she worries no one will give her a chance. So auditioning for Derek is her opportunity to get her career back on track. Oh boy has Derek grown up. She is incredibly attracted to him. Derek has had a thing for Meghan since they were teenagers but he never acted on it. The chemistry between Meghan and Derek is instant and off the charts hot. Things really get complicated when Derek hires Meghan's ex to play opposite her in his film. A great story with a twist I never saw coming. Definitely recommend. Hoping Ashley gets her story next!
Short and cute 3,5 It's a good short romance between a student actress, Meghan, who was severely criticized by one of her teachers the year before and the brother of her best friend, Derek, who is starting studying to be filmmaker. He gives her a chance, and get closer. However, what happened the previous semester is troubling Meghan's new life. The story is short, well written with a twist, but it is also sometimes a little too simple in spite of that. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
A quick enjoyable read. I felt that the author had the ability to convey some depth to the personalities of the characters bringing a greater sense of reality to her story.
The writing draws you in and keeps you interested until the end. The chemistry between the H and h is great plus their attitudes and events going on make the story even richer.

A short quick story to read. Both Meghan and Derek will have things to overcome before they get their happy ending, I enjoyed reading their story. That ex was really something. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a short read. Enjoyable. Meghan and Derek were sweet characters, with their own things to overcome. It was my first read from this author and I will read more.

It is a cute short story! It goes over a few days so things move fast, but considering the main caracters knew each other from before, it worked just fine.
