I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Eat Plants Feel Whole is a fantastic guide with a wealth of information about eating a healthier plant based diet. This book gives information on diet, health benefits, the science behind this diet, nutrition and much much more.
There are recipes to follow and they sound delicious.
I'm looking to change my diet into a more plant based one and this book has given me a great understanding and starting point to go from.

Growing up I was exposed to veganism, my mother has been one as long as I've known her. She has always looked fabulous for her age, much younger than my friends parents.
I never made the connection between her diet and her great health or appearance. Even though I was exposed to this type of lifestyle I didn't embrace it myself because we typically think, what do our parents know or oh that doesn't apply to me. It takes many years for what our parents say to us and what they show us to actually sink in.
I have actually eaten fairly healthily for a long time but have recently embraced the vegan lifestyle like this book promotes.
As the book says, all of this is included in the book,

EAT PLANTS FEEL WHOLE includes an 18-day QuickStart Plan, fifty plant-based recipes, a starter menu, shopping list, and lifestyle tips. In short, everything you need to initiate your health transformation.

I feel so much better after following a vegan diet, more energy that I thought was gone at my age, smoother, younger looker skin, less often sick and so many dietary choices.
The book is chock full of delicious recipe choices.
Highly recommended to all!

This book is heavy on nutritional information seems like a biology text book i had on university, and gets heavy to read
I love greens and vegetable, a lot and i believe strongly that these are choices that impact one’s health. It would be a good book to have as a resource on macronutrients, micronutrients, and other current topics. Each section of the book is summarized at the end in a way that I felt was helpful.
The recipes are a lot BUT though many of the recipes include ingredients they are difficult to find or spicy or not so common to find or really expensive.

This book was extremely helpful. Eat Plants, Feel Whole by Dr. George Guthrie is a great way to learn and adapt your health to more plant based foods. It's amazing what plant based foods can do that impacts your health. He goes on to explain and tell about diets, foods, and etc. that will help educate anyone. The book was easy to follow along. I am not into medical sciences or any health sciences and this book was great to read.

I received this copy from the publisher. This is my voluntary review.

This book contains a lot of wonderful information regarding how eating plants can greatly improve your health and ultimately change your life. I am vegan already but this is a great reminder that eating more whole foods is definitely better for my health.

Solid book! Having been plant based most of my life, I figured this would just be good resource for sharing or for a quick refresher on plant based research. Instead I learned so much about more than just not eating meat, but approaching life from a “what’s best” and a whole body perspective. Great resource, glad I read it, would recommend 10/10!

"Eat Plants Feel Whole" offers a blend of science and practical guidance. You'll learn why converting to a plant-based diet can greatly lengthen your life and fight disease, but also why you will feel better by following the plan set forth in the book. Most of the chapters focus on explaining the benefits of the plan, but there are also terrific recipes and shopping lists provided. Some of the recipes provide alternate ways for preparing that involve fewer tools (such as mixer, etc.). I enjoyed the book and believe those thinking about going plant-based (as well as those who already are) will find much of interest.

Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a galley of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Eat Plants Feel Whole by George E. Guthrie

Harness the Healing Power of Plants and Transform Your Health

This book is heavy on nutritional information and lifestyle choices that impact one’s health. It would be a good book to have as a resource on macronutrients, micronutrients, and other current topics. Each section of the book is summarized at the end in a way that I felt was helpful. The recipes are numerous though many of the recipes include ingredients I cannot find here in the small village in Lebanon that I live in. That said, the ideas posited are in keeping with my lifestyle and easy enough to incorporate into what is available locally.

As this is a topic that is not new to me, I did not find any new concepts to take in but did enjoy having my own thoughts reinforced. I don’t agree with everything in this book but did find it an interesting read.

Thank you to NetGalley and AdventHealth Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Eat Plants Feel Whole is a tutorial and recipe plan guide to plant based whole food diets and lifestyle changes which promote health presented by Dr. George E. Guthrie. Released 15th Oct 2019 by AdventHealth Press, it's 420 pages and available in hardcover and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately.

This is an evidence-based science forward look at plant based whole foods and the benefits they provide in terms of health and wellness. The author writes authoritatively and enthusiastically (he's a medical doctor with additional qualifications in nutrition studies).

The book's language throughout is layman accessible; most readers with a basic education won't have any trouble following his reasoning or the advice he gives on diet, food, and lifestyle adjustments. Dr. Guthrie has developed a plan which he outlines: the food (including a fairly brutal assessment of the typical modern diet - full of trans fats, meats, refined sugars, and preservatives), lifestyle, and the "Eat Plants Feel Whole" plan - including a quickstart guide to follow for 18 days to see immediate benefits. The foods and recipes included are quite specific and the author explains how to choose foods (where there are choices) for different situations and benefits.

Throughout the book the author discusses chronic illness (specifically obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease) and cautions readers to be aware if they are using specific medications or have been diagnosed with specific conditions and when to seek advice from caregivers before changing diet or exercise regimes abruptly.

The book contains a number of good supportive resource materials including pantry/fridge/freezer checklists, daily meal plans (and the recipes), comprehensive bibliography and links lists, and a cross referenced index.

With the understanding that lifestyle and diet changes can provide remarkable health benefits, this could be the impetus that some readers need to begin to make a difference in their health and lives. My only quibble is that occasionally during reading it felt like the author was fervently and zealously proselytizing and marketing his system (including ads for educational materials, tote bags, and tumblers in the back of the book). The author's personal faith is mentioned in context a few times through the book which wasn't a problem, but might be for some readers.

Four stars. There's a lot of very useful information here and evidence based practice supporting these changes for improved health. Definitely worth a read and a trial run (18 days isn't long at all to give a good solid try).

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

This is a great book for someone wanting to understand the science behind plant based eating. It's packed full of information and provides lots of details on the specific issues with the standard american diet, as well as specific health concerns. There is also a section with sample meal plans and shopping lists. The recipes, while they aren't the main focus of the book, do look to be relatively easy and are made with generally common ingredients. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book.

Special thanks to NetGalley and Advent Health for providing me with ARC.

This book is so good, i love vegetables so much, they are very good for our bodies and health. I saw that people those days eating fast food more than vegetables and that make obesity rates high, especially in children.

Eat Plants Feel Whole is an exceptionally well documented book almost to the degree it’s a textbook on nutrition rather than a cookbook. If you really want in-depth information on plant based foods this has it all and more. Honestly, I had trouble staying focused on the text it was so overly kaden with nutritional facts and information. So for that it’s probably the most comprehensive book I’ve seen. As far as a cookbook I could do with a lot less of that and more recipes with an if your interested in in-depth information on eating plant based foods please check out my in-depth companion book of all the details. I would probably go for both and enjoy it way better that way. This is just too much packed together for my taste but I simply can’t deny the valuable information included. So great book just a bit to technical for me lol 😂 m. Don’t discount it for that though this book is probably right up the alley for someone wanting all the information available with a smattering of recipes.

Overall, this is a nice and informative read. Guthrie includes many studies that are backed by science. However, I do think he fails to realize that the plan he prescribes doesn't work for everyone. Yes, whole foods that are minimally processed are always healthier, but many people function better with some amounts of meat in their diet. While forgoing it may be nice for the budget, many of us have seen our health suffer from following exactly what he suggests. Our bodies are all different so I would recommend being aware that his plan may not work for you, but the advice to eat whole unprocessed foods and mainly plant based is sound for anybody. Thankfully, the book focuses more of its energy on the whole foods emphasis.

This is a terrific introduction for anyone who needs to reclaim their health. The information here isn't new, but it is presented in a way that makes it easily accessible for folks who are willing to invest 18 days in changing their lives. If every patient diagnosed with a condition that could benefit from lifestyle medicine could leave their doctor's office with this book, How Not to Die, and a video of Forks Over Knives, it could revolutionize healthcare in this country.
