Sheriff Ben Stillman #14

Stillman's Wrath

Rate this book
ROBBERS AND COLD BLOODED KILLERS WON’T STOP STILLMAN

Sheriff Ben Stillman’s wife, Fay, and the Clantick town doctor, Clyde Evans, are riding the stage back to Clantick from Rocky Ford when the coach is hit by Dutch Wayne’s outlaw gang, including Dutch’s simple-minded son, Waylon. Waylon is badly injured during the robbery, so Dutch forces the doctor and Fay to ride with his gang as they head to their outlaw hideout in the Highwood Mountains.

Back in Clantick, Ben Stillman gets word of the robbery via the telegraph, and rides off in hard pursuit. His task is made more difficult when rancher Phil Triber leads his own men after the outlaws. Dutch Wayne’s gang stole the coach’s strongbox carrying fifty thousand dollars belonging to Triber, and Triber wants it back. Stillman demands Triber and his men turn back. The sheriff is afraid that in their zealousness they’ll get the hostages killed.

Stillman doesn’t give a damn about the money. He’s desperate to overtake the robbers and cold-blooded killers before they murder his wife and the doctor. He doesn’t realize just how badly Triber wants that money returned to him…nor what it is for.

Ben Stillman's wife and best friend were kidnapped during a stage coach robbery. The leader's son was injured and he took Fay and Doc to care for his son. There was continued conflict between leader and his gang members who wanted overtake the leader and steal the thousands of dollars they had stolen. There was drama between Fay and Doc and conflict among the outlaws. In the meantime Ben is rushing to find his wife and good friend. They encounter unforgiving terrain and escape from the outlaws. There was a significant amount of gunfire and violence throughout the story. Ben reaches Fay and Doc and they encounter a second group of villains who are trying to steal the money.
There was compassion, caring, and violence throughout the story.

It was action packed and I would recommend this book to others. This is the first book I have read by Peter Brandvoid but will be looking for others.

Read the whole Stillman series, I agree, need more Stillman, he’s only 50. For those that like Westerns, Peter Brandvold gives great dialogue and descriptions of the post civil war West. I read many books by persons that lived that era and this author follows through with painting the story as believable. Some are a bit risqué, but most are action packed. Keep writing Peter!

I'm so disappointed this is the last of the Ben Stillman's line. This is as good as they get with Ben, his lovely wife and Doc starring. The plot is excellent and the characters, if you have not read this series, are deep and nuanced. More than just a common western, but fits in the classic form.

A soft 4. (3.5) I'm not sure but after reading this I may be qualified to run a cattle drive or at least work on one. A decent story but I would have liked more in depth coverage about the people in the story and less about the longhorns. Just say'n.

It looks like the series is over. A good variation of plots throughout the 14 books. A good story to finish (or is it?).

Don't mess Stillman

Not a bad story but a little slow in the middle of the story. However, the theme stars to pick up with a fitting end.

Wild

This western book was too far to the wild side for me. I can handle one or two showdowns but three or four are two many for me.

THEY TOOK FAY AND DOC

Lordy they done it! Fay Stillman and Doc Evans have been kidnapped..A very dangerous move! The Dutch Wayne outlaw gang who've held up the stagecoach that Fay and Doc Evans were riding back to Clantick, they murdered the "jehu-driver
and the shotgun messenger -riding shotgun" were murdered with the horse team. Dutch's gangsters set the coach afire headed it over a steep cliff.
Ben received word about holdup and that the stagecoach never reached the next relay station.
He sets out to find out what happened, he brought two other horses which he could switch
off so that he would have a fresh horse..Some what..and he wouldn't ride a horse to its limit..considerate. He loves his horse "Sweets" which is his main ride. This gang shouldn't have kidnapped Fay or Doc Evans, but Dutch's son Waylon was hurt when he fell off the stagecoach. His arm was disjointed and he suffered internal injuries when he fell on top of the cash box. Per Doc the boy wasn't going to live unless they could take the boy back to Rocky Ford and Doc could operate. A possible fractured rib which had
punctured his lung..he's in bad shape, could be at death's door..
So they need Doc to keep the kid alive, which didn't happen, he succumbed to his injuries. Meanwhile there are other players, a rancher named Phil Triber and his psychopath son Val are following Ben, because the cash box that was stolen belonged to Triber. His son Val is a constant worry to his father. Evidently Val is a
"serial rapist/killer" whom his father pays off the assaulted party families not to report it to the authorities.
A great father, whom is also a backshooter, he murdered a friend and fellow U.S. Marshal who was a mentor to Sheriff Ben Stillman when he was in U.S.Marshal Service. He also tried to sniper/ambush Ben.. Now that wasn't a smart move, was it?
Phil Triber is setting up an ambush in the ghost town of "Paris"where he hopes to !murder Ben and bury him somewhere in an unmarked grave or leave exposed to the critters of the desert. The
outlook is bleak, because Triber kidnapped Doc, holding as a hostage to lure Ben to Paris.
Bad news Ben went up against those five hostile gunnies/ranch hands and cut them all down. Plus he arrested Phil Triber for MURDER of a Federal Marshal..doesn't pay to be arrogant does it??
Well you'll who enjoy reading 📚about one of our favorite Sheriff families, including Leone his Deputy and don't forget "Little Ben", Doc and Sweets his horse, and riding partner. Another 👍great go GET'EM Sheriff Ben of Clantick, Montana

Good story.

A good story line. Too much bad language. Unnecessary details of sexual relations between the man and his wife. The story was fast moving and exciting.

A PB. Western Action Adventure (SW) (ASBSW)

PB. has penned a western action adventure novel titled "Stillman's Wrath", which begins with a stagecoach robbery of a significant amount if funds. The funds were to pay off a family and a witness of a murder. The robber take the doctor anf the Sheriffs wife hostage. Thus Sheriff Ben Stillman is soon on the trail of the robbers and avoiding a rancher and his men. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS

Ben definitely has his work cut out for him as his wife and best friend are kidnapped by a group of cut throats criminals. No punches are pulled, as he uses all of his learned law enforcement expertise in his attempt to recover these two. Then he is faced with a rouge rancher, and his worthless crew, who are trying to recover the missing cash from an armed robbery!

I have been a long time follower of the Ben Stillman's outstanding series, and each new adventure is a little better than the previous. This outstanding western masterpiece of heartwarming experiences is one suspenseful episode after the other. There are moments of outstanding entertaining revelations about how our old American West was probably tamed throughout the entire story. Plenty of gunfights to pacify anyone's demanding appetite, and the on-going suspense is certainly strong enough to maintain your undivided attention from beginning to end!
Outstanding storylines that successfully portrays Ben's undying devotion toward recovering his wife and best friend from the worthless crew, which kidnapped them during a stage coach robbery. Too, the author's selection of characters definitely added to the ongoing excitement of this compassionate masterpiece of heartwarming entertainment!
Definitely recommend this compassionately motivated story to every, regardless of your reading pleasure. I am sure all of you Stillman enthusiasts will agree with me, but those of you who have never tried this set buttercup aboard, or the loss is yours!😀

Hope there is more Ben Stillman books coming

How this book ended there has to be more books to come. I sure hope so. I have enjoyed the characters and all they have been through. How nice would it be for the Doc to find love, Leon to find someone and Evelyn to find happiness. There has to be more.

Stillman's Wrath (A Sheriff Ben Stillman Western)

I love Ben Stillman, Sheriff books. There's nothing like a good old fashioned western with really bad outlaws and innocent people who get caught up in the drama that they bring. Something as simple as riding in a stage coach to go home can become a perilous action under these circumstances. Great read!!!!

It Doesn't Get Much Better!
Brandvold has mastered the art of writing high entertainment westerns that keep readers glued to the pages, anxious to see what happens next! One challenge and resolution after the next often in ways readers don't suspect. Love his style!

Just wow!

Danger, tension, excitement and quite a bit of humor lift this terrific Stillman book well above the average Western tale.
Author needs to verify a few defi itions before using some words but overall it is excellent.

Best western I've ever read. Couldn't put it down and would recommend it to you western buffs. One part that made me sad happened when 'she and he' sought protection with the couple in the woods. Won't say any more about that.
