During the chaotic upheaval of his team, guys transferring, new guys coming in, and the veterans are left dealing with the loss of one of their own, Ryuu “Dragon” Shannon heads home for a visit to his Brooklyn neighborhood. He discovers that Jo is living with his mom, and to his shock, he finds his one-night stand with his tattoo artist produced a daughter, Ceri. He’d been drunk that night, and she’d been willing. As they work to navigate his newfound place in Jo and Ceri’s lives, he’s charmed by their sweet daughter and starts to fall for the girl he’d never gotten the chance to know and who has grown into a woman he can’t get off his mind.

Josephine Moretti is glad that Dragon is back for an extended leave. She remembered touching his body both when she gave him his distinctive tattoo and the night they spent together. A night that changed her life and…gave her Ceri. She’d had a thing for him, but had never gotten to know him as well as she hoped. He’d disappeared and she didn’t know how to get in touch with him. Now he was a Navy SEAL, and as far as she could tell, nothing had changed. Things were about to get complicated now that he was home and she wants her little girl to know her dad. But, Dragon has been away for a while, and Jo’s learned to take care of them both, but when a threat from Dragon’s past threatens them all, she finds that Dragon is every inch the hero she thought he was and maybe, just maybe, an amazing dad for Ceri.

3.5 - "I knew you were trouble the moment I laid eyes on you…" Stars!

We return to the SEAL Team Alpha series, with book nine giving us Ryuu ‘Dragon’ Shannon’s story. The bulk of it takes place in New York, but we get a secondary storyline playing out alongside Dragon’s, with his team-mate Pitbull dealing with a similar situation as he finds himself in.

His life had just irrevocably changed…

Fatherhood. Except whereas Dragon’s baby momma wants him to be a part of their daughters life, Pitbull’s is hoping he will keep it in the ‘it’s a secret’ category, so she can move on with her life elsewhere. This dual story-line takes up the bulk of the book, although Dragon is also dealing with a few other familial issues from his past.

This was turning out to be an eventful return home…

For me it was the last 20% of the book that was what kept in keeping with the previous books in the series, in that there was some action and adventure, and for me personally, I would have liked the initial story-line to have been a bit more condensed down, because as much as I liked Dragon, Jo and Ceri working through their new dynamic, I think the situation that prompted the team to pull together, and also for Ruckus and the guys to turn up and offer their support could have been expanded on so much more than it was, especially with the familial situation(s) Dragon was also dealing with.

"I might have this formidable determination and grit, but when it comes to you, I’m a freaking marshmallow."

Zoe excels at providing an easy-going reading experience no matter what the trope and I have loved this series in the main, so I am hoping that with the next book; Pitbull we get more of the SEAL action and suspense interspersed with the romance, because it was a missing from this one, and when it did happen was over and done with too quickly.

"I would travel into hell for you…"

In the ninth book in the SEAL Team Alpha series, DRAGON is all about countless dilemmas and conflicting emotions. Although there are plenty of happy times for Ryuu “Dragon” Shannon and Josephine Moretti to cherish, the predicaments that they must face are even more numerous. What should have been a quick trip to see his mom and then return to his team in San Diego ends up being an unforeseen life-changing event. Finding out he has a daughter is shocking enough, and trying to come to terms with a past painful memory also affects his actions. The deft writing of Zoe Dawson takes her characters on a compelling journey of discovery, where feelings never completely forgotten once again surface and try to control their lives. So many very profound emotions are conveyed by Dragon plus Jo, and I eagerly kept reading to see in what direction their choices would lead them.

After a series of incidents make the SEAL team to which Dragon belongs lose their necessary connection, he knows they must learn to flawlessly work with one another or the consequences could be tragic. Adding to his worries is the need to check on his mother back in New York City, but instead of the trip easing his mind, concerns are increased by a new revelation. He and a tattoo artist named Jo may have only had one night together, but he knows her little girl is also his responsibility when he realizes she is their daughter. But with so many factors influencing each decision to be made, there are no easy resolutions for Dragon and Jo.

A vast number of sentiments are expressed by the characters in DRAGON, and I always felt as though their reactions were realistic. How Dragon interacts with his teammates is believable, plus the past definitely impacts him in the present. He has tried to keep most feelings bottled up inside, yet now he is haunted by thoughts of what he should have done. I really felt for him, as he has tried to do what is right but sometimes fate intervenes. Jo is a wonderful mother and is very understanding. The way in which she and Dragon respond to one another often left me moved by their sincerity. His mother and their daughter were delightful secondary characters, while a teammate named “Pitbull” got to expose his own quandary. While I did really enjoy this book and the many trials of Dragon and Jo, I would have liked more dealings with his SEAL team and suspenseful missions, too.

Dragon by Zoe Dawson
SEAL Team Alpha Series Book Nine
Ryuu “Dragon” Shannon gets a blast from the past in way of a phone call. Six years ago he had a one-night stand and the memory of that woman stayed with him. Only now, she's calling about his mother's health. After a tragedy with his brother, he's stayed away from New York City. This trip changes everything.

Josephine “Jo” Moretti couldn't believe Ryuu was Gen's son. She'd searched for him after their night together, but never found him. And now, he found her. And the daughter she was never able to tell him he fathered.

This was fantastic. Ceri, their five-year-old genius daughter is quite a character. The emotions run high as Dragon finds he has a daughter...and faces the facts of the distance they'll face to stay close. In the background, Errol “Pitbull” Ballentine's story begins to form for the next book. Loved it!

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "DRAGON" SEAL TEAM ALPHA" This is Jo Moretti and Ryuu Shannon aka (DRAGONS) second chance at love storyline extremely well written by Zoe Dawson.
Ryuu returns home to Brooklyn to visit his mom Gen and is surprised to see that Jo is living with her it's been 5yrs since there one night stand he was very drunk and she was very willing.
Ceri comes running to the door and when he see's her behind Jo he knows immediately she is his he asks why Jo is living with his mom and she says someone has to look after her.
This is a very intiguing read you don't want to miss so much happens in this book and there is a shocking ending you won't see coming it's definitely a must read you don't want miss it's one you just can't put down until finished reading all the characters were amazing.

Best book in the series. CERI is adorable. She is the cutest, brightest angel that melts hearts. She makes me laugh. She saw the future much better than her mon. Best ending ever. Six years of remembering a 1 night together fate intervenes. All of the stars lined up for Dragon and Jo.what a love story. Gen has her family. Once again 2 Alpha teams are there for one of their members.
I am glad Pitt bull will have a story. I hope you write a story for all f Dragons’s Alpha team members.

Really good, I hope there's going to be a book about I mean the minor character from this was making eyes at that character we meet at the end. I would have liked some interaction instead of the current pair just throwing out there a line.

Outstanding

Wonderfully put together in the Navy Seals, their Seals younger and to the bit older, and the lifestyle of a young woman/mother and that of a young girl/child and into the fresh young new lives of a new family. It all comes together very well. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series!

Not what I expected

To be honest I didn’t remember Dragon or too many of the guys in this team. Story was ok but to be honest not really believable. Ceri for 5 even gifted didn’t seem true and just didn’t feel the closeness to any of the characters I did in the original team. Not sure if I will continue with the series now.

Ugh. Not my favorite book in the series. I never felt a real connection to Dragon in the earlier books and it continued here. I liked Jo and his mother as supporting characters. I did not like his daughter, Ceri. She did not come across as sweet, cute or engaging. She came across as a know it all without a filter who would never be challenged academically due to her intelligence. Blah, blah, blah. Not my cup of tea.

I also had to check a few times that I was reading Dragon’s book and not Errol’s. It seemed like a third of the book was devoted to someone other than Dragon and his family members. I know that their stories are interwoven, but it seemed like a bit of overkill for this reader.

DRAGON'S FUTURE

I love this book. The story of Ryuu + Jo = Ceri. The story is about family and what parents should ideally be. Mix in the story was Pitbull and for a moment I think the book would be named "Dragon & Pitbull". Gladly, the author's decide to stop and concentrate in Dragon's story.

The characters are well balance, you can relate and enough roads to explore. Will recommend that you read the whole series. The only thing is that the WMD doesn't answer commands in English the preferred language is German and Dutch...why using English in a day before situation could confuse the dog. They also use sign language.

Great story

I enjoyed reading the long awaited story of Dragon. I wish there was more action earlier in the story. The first half of the book was focused on Dragons feelings and that felt off for a navy seal. Once we got past that it was a great story.

Zoe Dawson has a way that draws you into these characters that leave you wanting more and frustrated that you have to wait for the book in the series. Well Done Zoe. You truly are magnificent author. Now.... please hurry on Pitbull's story. (:

Zoe does it again

I love this series. Zoe develops the characters with the underlying story of fighting the bad guys. Zoe brings in the other characters from previous books which is a nice touch. Cant wait for next book.
