The cruise of death

Terrific. A working holiday, what could be better. Relaxing on a cruise whilst still indulging her baking needs. However things don't always work out how you want. Smuggling, murder and undercover agents are all soon on the horizon. Can she cope, on her own and on unfamiliar ground? Things start falling in to place when Alex appears and the clues start mounting. Okay the killer was obvious but the plot was skillful and the characters as good as ever.

3. Book 3 Pastries and Pilfering
4 stars
I purchased a copy of the cozy mystery Pastries and Pilfering in the Margot Durand Cozy Mystery Boxed Set: Books 1 – 12 by Danielle Collins, and this review was given freely.
Intriguing with multiple clues, small mysteries, and Margot worrying over if she can have a lasting relationship with Adam who has secrets.
41-year-old Margot takes a 2-week vacation from her North Bank, Virginia bakery hoping to relax on a five-day cruise to Mexico with her ex-student Addie and then another week with her sister Renee’s family in Long Beach, California but things become complex when Margot overhears some suspicious conversations, a prominent actor takes interest in her, Adam and his friend Gage show up on the cruise, her friend Addie does not keep her promises, and staff die.

May be read as a standalone but is best if read in the series order as it begins with a series recap.

4. Book 4 Muffins and Murder
4 stars
I purchased a copy of the North Bank, Virginia set cozy mystery Muffins and Murder in the Margot Durand Cozy Mystery Boxed Set: Books 1 – 12 by Danielle Collins, and this review was given freely.
This is a complex mystery with a developing romance where an act from over forty years ago produces negative reactions in the present.
Missing retired trial lawyer Bentley’s daily visits and stories after he injured his back, Margot takes him breakfast hoping for an intriguing story which she gets but, she also finds herself mixed up in a murder mystery where his friends are killed. Another layer of mystery is added in the form of her assistant Dexter’s hacking skills and sudden leave of absence.
The recent death of one of Bentley’s friends prompts him to relay a tale from his twenties when he and his three law school friends provided scuba diving lessons and found a sunken treasure only to have it stolen.
May be read as a standalone but is best if read in series order.

5. Book 5 Vacations and Violence
4 stars
I purchased a copy of the cozy mystery Vacation and Violence in the Margot Durand Cozy Mystery Boxed Set: Books 1 – 12 by Danielle Collins, and this review was given freely.
Suspenseful and complex with a twist, this story contains a fair amount of drama in the form of well-blended odd encounters, multiple murders, and suspicious behavior.
Margot visits her friend Chef CeCe Baxter, who is been working in the picturesque Blue Ridge Mountains for a year, hoping for a relaxing weekend only to learn CeCe invited her to help stop a stalker, who has located the hiding CeCe and become active again on the anniversary of her marriage to her unfaithful and abusive ex-husband Rick Moody.

6. Book 6 Boating and Bodies
4 stars
I purchased a copy of the North, Bank Virginia set cozy mystery Boating and Bodies in the Margot Durand Cozy Mystery Boxed Set: Books 1 – 12 by Danielle Collins, and this review was given freely.
While the mystery feels less complex than the previous novels in the series, it is an easy-flowing story with realistic characters and a good bit happening. This is a single murder mystery where the story is divided between Margot and Adam’s relationship progressing with thoughts of an engagement, the growing need to fill Dexter’s position and Margot’s investigation of a suspicious drowning with the help of Adam and Dexter.
May be read as a standalone but is best if read in series order.

An easy-flowing Christmas time murder mystery based on greed that contains some poignant moments and has a heartwarming ending.
Love is in the bloom of this sequel where Margot goes home with Adam to meet his family in Sister, Oregon leaving her bakery and her two assistants, Dexter and Julia, who have a hate/love relationship, under the care of Mama Rosie.
The vacation is less than relaxing when on day one, Margot learns she is volunteered to bake for the yearly Christmas bake-off and, her partner Fran is accused of killing the biggest rival.
May be read as a standalone but is best if read in series order.

9. Book 9 A Deadly Engagement
4 stars
I purchased a copy of the North Bank, Virginia set cozy mystery A Deadly Engagement in the Margot Durand Cozy Mystery Boxed Set: Books 1 – 12 by Danielle Collins, and this review was given freely.
An easy-to-follow, drama-packed, and at times suspenseful story that occurs around Valentine’s Day.
A story based on greed with a profession of love. While love continues to grow for the couples at the Bakery, this is not a carefree Holiday romance.
Shortly after Bentley enlists Margot’s help to unravel the meaning of the cryptic letter, he received from his recently deceased first wife, Margot has an odd encounter with Felix Lynch posing as a staff member, has a car following her, and someone with Bentley’s name is found burning in a car.
May be read as a standalone but is best if read in series order.

10. Book 10 A Killer Cover Up
4 stars
I purchased a copy of the cozy mystery A Killer Cover Up in the Margot Durand Cozy Mystery Boxed Set: Books 1 – 12 by Danielle Collins and this review was given freely.
An easy-flowing story of police corruption and wedding preparation stress.

May be read as a standalone but is best if read in series order.

11. Book 11 Catering and Crime
4 stars
I purchased a copy of the cozy mystery Catering and Crime in the Margot Durand Cozy Mystery Boxed Set: Books 1 – 12 by Danielle Collins, and this review was given freely.
Margot takes a break from wedding planning stress to solve a murder and capture a jewelry-thieving ring that are connected to her reception caterer. Contains cameos with Bentley and his son Ben.
May be read as a standalone but is best if read in series order.

12. Book 12 Murder and Matrimony
4 stars
I purchased a copy of the cozy mystery Murder and Matrimony in the Margot Durand Cozy Mystery Boxed Set: Books 1 – 12 by Danielle Collins and this review was given freely.
A fitting conclusion that is full of drama.
When Adam’s “Secret Life” threatens to change their wedding plans, Margot must rely on her friends for help to clear Adam, finish the wedding planning, and protect herself from the violent stalker who is trying to stop her before she stops him.
Two weeks before the wedding, Margot thinks her main stressor is the lack of a wedding cake until Adam is arrested for murder.
May be read as a standalone but is best if read in series order.

This was a fun mystery, reuniting Margot and Adam… but this time in California and then on a cruise ship. This is one book where I am fighting myself to rate it. There are things about it that annoyed me: it seems too convenient that these two people manage to make it clear across the country in the same place at the same time. It felt a little "convenient" for the story and not particularly plausible.

But I don't come to cozies for their plausibility… In so many series (including this one), we have the amateur sleuth who gets involved in an implausible number of cases; that's kind of the point of them.

The other dislike was one case where the needs of the series felt like they took priority over the needs of the book. The book ends with Adam still hiding something from Margot; as readers, we don't know what. But… it feels like the answer to that really connects to this book, so I felt disappointed that it was left unresolved until (presumably) a later book in the series. It felt unfair to me as a reader.

I have spent all this time complaining about what I didn't like, but I gave it a four-star review. That's because, as the rubric says, I "really liked it." Margot is a nice woman and a fun character, and I enjoy how her late husband prepared her for this investigating and that she now has Adan who she is enjoying in her life. They are pleasant, easy reads, kind of perfect for lockdown life.

A fast paced fun cozy mystery! Can't wait for more.

A Well developed plot and characters are highlights in this fun to read cozy mystery. There are enough twists and turns and red herrings to keep you guessing. Margot Durand was offered a free "working cruise" if she would come on board the cruise ship and help her former french pastry student, Addie who is now main pastry chef on the cruise. Margot's detective friend Adam (could he be more), took her to dinner before she left where she also met an old friend of Adam's also in the "business" according to Adam. With the odd feeling that Adam is hiding something, Margo goes on the cruise where dead bodies show up margot finds the first one, her friend Addie is acting strangely, a movie star on board comes on to her and then and then starts acting strange and she thinks she sees Adams friend she met before she left on board the ship. With all that going on, Margot just can't help herself. She has to investigate the death of the woman she found. Great, fast read and a lot of fun! I received an ARC copy but the comments here are stricly my own.

Oh, I really liked this one. This series, though still early on, is really fun. Margot has never been a suspect of a murder investigation, unlike so many female leads in mystery books. Also, this series has also left the small town and Margot was able to look into a mystery away from home. Adam has become even cuter in the book series, and though he is hiding something, probably about Julian's death, he still fits together with Margot.

The mystery was very well thought out, and made complete sense. It was obviously planned out and none of the clues seemed like it was spur of the moment. Though the connection between Gab and Adam doesn't seem clear, and the reason that Adam managed to get to follow Margot is a little ify, it was still a really good book.

As you can tell, I really enjoyed this book.

Perhaps cruises from the States are different from those from the UK, but having made many cruises - both as a passenger, and (when much younger!) as a crew member, I have never even heard of a line that permits crew members to invite a friend aboard, and provide excellent accommodation!
That unlikely situation "accepted", the story was pedestrian and, as with so many in this modern age, could have done with the use of a competent proof-reader.
As noted in my comments, ships do not have "floors" but "decks"! Also, one does not, in my experience, "purchase" any food/non-alcoholic drink on a cruise.
Not overly impressed!

This was a nice short book. I like when the scene is set back at the bakery and the small town in which it is contained, but this was a good one set on a cruise ship.

Adam is still withholding information from Margot, but she withholds information from him too, so she needs to lay off. She thinks that everything is her business and that irritates me, but I guess that’s exactly what gets the mysteries solved is her curious nature!

Next book is Muffins and Murder (Margot Durand Cozy Mystery Book 4)

I liked that forty-one year old baker, Margot Durand, was able to get away and go on a Carousel Cruise. Unfortunately it seems that finding dead bodies has become her "thing"! This time she discovers the body of Kristen Chambers--sports and recreation director. Detective Adam Eastwood is never far away but he continues to be secretive. With her detective-like mind, Margot manages to figure out another mystery. Fun book with fun characters.

Who killed the girl in the red shoes?

Margot is offered the sweetest vacation cruise of her life. On the 1st night aboard she discovers the murder victim. She is aboard ship and doesn't really know whom to trust. Finding Adam's friend aboard t he ship is a surprise. To find out all of the answers you have to read the book. Who was the murderer?

Margot and Adam at it again

No cruise is complete without a mystery or two. There is never a dull moment when Margot is involved. This story was fast paced, seemed to have a new predicament at every turn. The romance is moving along slowly, which I am okay with. I enjoyed reading this book and now I'm on to the next book in this series, so much fun.

Helping with the celebration of her friend, she was given a 4 day cruise. Ambling along the different pathway she comes into the sports equipment center and finds a woman has been murdered. They are saying it’s a drug overdose, and not reporting till the ship returns.Too many things going on, and she is asking too many questions. Then Adams shows up, and you wonder what all is going on .

When Margot is invited on a cruise to assist a former student, Addie, one evening with a pastry display., how can she refuse? She takes two weeks off so she can spend one week with her sister, niece and brother-in-law.
But once on board ship, Margot has a feeling something isn’t right. Addie who was always punctual and organized is either late or never shows.

Jumping into the 3rd book of this series was a disadvantage in becoming acquainted with the main character as I had to fill in some blanks along the way. In this book Margot goes on a cruise and finds a dead body which leads to questions, suspicion and surprises. This was a short and very quick read, enjoyable but I don't feel a need to read the books prior and after this one.

Good Read

This one was good except for a couple of grammatical errors and a mistake in the concept of getting out early. It is parole not bail after your sentenced. It was still entertaining. I will pick up the next in the series.

Okay

The story was okay but seemed slow. I read two other books while going back to read a few chapters in this book. Once they were on the ship, it flowed a little better. There were no surprises tho. I even had the Captain and Addie figured out early.

Wait, what, who?

A good mystery has you guessing all the time about what is happening in the story. This story is no exception! So what is going on with Adam? He has admitted to having feelings for Margot, but he is still not telling her something.
