Without a doubt the best prequel novella I have ever read!!
I honestly had no idea what I was getting into with this series because I have never read anything like it before. The moment Kieran starts talking about this girl he sees in his dreams I was hooked and throughout this entire thing I was like "WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN!!!". And even though this was just the journey of how Kieran gets where he is going in The Keeper's Legacy, I highly suggest you read it.
I received the ALC of the audio for The Keeper's Legacy and this was included in the audio so I am not sure if it will be included in the copy you can get on Audible, but I will say the narration is perfection! James Joseph is quickly moving up the list in my favorite narrators and the way he was able to do some of the voices in this prequel just blew me away!! Not to mention Stella Hunter was as amazing as ever in her bits as well.
Diving right into The Keeper's Legacy because I need to know what is going to happen!!
Kieran, the 126-year-old crown prince of Eatos has been dreaming of a girl from another world for as long as he can remember. That girl happens to be Effie, one of the characters from the Chosen series who has visions of her own.
The prince's family is anything but pleasant. His mother and sister aren't so bad but his father is downright awful. He had Kieran whipped the first time he told him about his dreams and he was just a kid then.
As Kieran's visions get stronger and his father gets more brutal in his treatment of him, the only thing for Kieran to do is escape and find Effie with the help of the 3000-year-old elder Cyril and the mysterious Keepers.
You can tell Meg Anne's writing evolved from the previous books. It's more mature and gripping. This was such a fun read.
I love both Kieran and Cyril so much, they're great together. I wish Cyril could've gone with him, his wisdom will definitely be needed.
Effie's little scenes were adorable, and the pain Kieran felt right along with her was so sweet.
I HATE THE KING. HATE HATE HATE. Rowena who? This is the real villain.
I AM SO LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS SERIES. I AM READY.
We've gotten bits and pieces of who Kieran is and where he is from but now we get the heart-wrenching details. The sometimes painful yet emotional story fills in the gaps and gives us more of Kieran. The love of his sister and implied protection from his mother in the end wasn't enough. The dreams and support from an elder is what puts him on this path even at a young age. He becomes more tangible after this read which brings him closer to my heart. I love this series. The action and the parts of them that have been shared and love that this read has done that with him. Awesome read.

Excellent short story. I just finished the first four Chosen novels and wasn't planning on purchasing the Keepers series. This was a freebie so I went ahead and downloaded it. Now I've purchased the rest of the Keepers series.
Kieran is a 125 year old Prince of an (obviously) long-lived species. For years he has been dreaming of Effie, whom we met in the aforementioned Chosen books. If my calculations are correct, he has actually been dreaming of her before she was even born. His father, the king, both fears and hates Kieran*, which we never really get to the bottom of. Kieran is accused of treason by said father and manages to escape to another realm to save his life and search for Effie. Their story continues in the next book in the series which of course now I have to read.
*At one point we are told that early on Kieran had disclosed a dream he had about his father and was severely beaten for it. No details are given so I am curious as to what the dream entailed. Maybe I'll find out in the future (fingers crossed)
Hmm. I am probably not the target audience for this. It's not that it's bad, it was just... yeah. The MC didn't really gel, for me, I couldn't quite care what happened to him, the writing style was a bit too YA for my preferences. It's well written enough, but lacked the kind of 'writing magic' that pulls me in and keeps me going back for more. The terrible father was a little too terrible, but the consequences of having such a fatherly figure overseeing one's growth were somehow mostly missing from Kieran's overall stance. For me, the MC wasn't nearly enough fleshed out to keep me interested in his fate, and there were a little too many cliches, where he's concerned. Maybe if his trauma had been better manifested on the page - it barely seemed to exist, which I found riveting, when he's suffered what he did at the hands of his own father? - I would have found the MC a little more credible, and he'd become more than just a character, in my eyes. As it was, yeah, everything felt too lightly brushed aside and used for the sake of convenience.
I absolutely loved this novel. The world created by Meg Anne is such an immersive world that you're sucked into it so quickly. The descriptions take you to a far off place where what is normal for us, is turned upside down. And the characters are so well rounded that you can't help but fall in love with them and want them to find what their looking for. While others you just dislike because of their actions.
Well wasn't this an intriguing glmipse into the world of the keepers, making you want more as soon as you finish it. Kerian and Effie seem fated to meet and yet they live in different worlds. At first it seems impossible and yet as the plot unfolds our Prince finds himself in the cusp of doing just that. I can't wait to read the first book now - I need to know what happens next.
This quick read novella is a prequel to The Keepers series.
Kieran is the crown prince of Eatos and has been desperately trying to keep a secret from his family. However, we all know that eventually all secrets will be revealed.
Loved the insight into Kieran and the why/how he became the man he is in the rest of the Keepers series.
Not a fan of Kieran. Like at all. There is just something about him that rubs me the wrong way. Cyril however is intriguing. As is the King, I'd like to know his secrets... The characters and story is well written. The world is fantastical and intricate in it's creation. It will be interesting to see where this leads.
The Dreamer (The Keepers #0.5) by Meg Anne – I’m fairly certain that 90% of fantasy novel conflicts would be resolved or at least greatly diminished if parents were present and at least moderately decent human beings. If you like portal fantasy, I have a feeling you will like this world. Happy Reading!
It feels like the author has a more amusing and riveting version in her head and her fingers typed out a watered down version. A few chuckles, but I wasn't able to empathize with the main character as much as I would have liked to.
I kinda stumbled upon this prequel novella in my Kindle App and thought it sounded like an interesting series. Honestly, I think it's meant to be read after you read book one (despite being a prequel), there was a bit of a learning curve and I think the characters you meet here are already established in book one.
That being said, I did figure it out and really enjoyed the story. I'd definitely read the rest of this series at some point.
It's not a drop everything and read it series, but it's a strong start to a NA / Adult fantasy series with a bit of steamy romance, an interesting world, and characters with complex histories.
Okay I'm loving this. Good start to a new series kinda. So sad what the father did to him. I just can't believe, but I'm glad that he got away and find what he's been dreaming. Can't wait for the next book.
Good story. Book was too short. It was like reading the first chapter of a really good book and then finding the rest of the pages have been turn out. I am going directly into book two. Definitely worth reading.
The Dreamer is a novella that gives the reader a good introduction to the series and to get a bit of a backstory of Kieran and his family. Kieran has a secret he has been keeping from his evil father, the king. I really liked Cyril's character. He is a very old elder and a keeper. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Stella Hunter and James Joseph. They did a wonderful performance portraying the characters and used a variety of tones and inflections. I was hooked with their narration skills!
If you have read The Chosen Series by Meg Anne, then you are seriously going to want to get your hands on this book. The Dreamer is part of a series which is a spin off from The Chosen, so if you really enjoyed reading those books, then this is the book for you. I have always loved Meg’s writing because it is so unique and special, it’s not something that you see every day and plus, Meg can put her own spin on pretty much everything that she creates. Yet again, this book is an example of how truly awesome her work is and I couldn’t find a single fault in the entire story, if anything I just wanted more from, however you’ll have to be patient and sit tight because this is only a quick short read, but it has everything in there to make you keep wanting more… The story was easy to follow and I can’t fault the writing at all, seriously if you’ve not read Meg’s work, go and change that so you’re not missing out, you won’t be sorry.
Kieran is a crown prince of Eatos, everything within the walls of the palace look as if he leads a very happy life and that he has the perfect family, but appearances can be deceiving just like it is for Kieran. Kieran has dreams which he can’t work out or decipher, and whilst he can only recognise the one thing in them ((Effie), he knows not to breathe a word out loud so that his father hears about them, the last time he did that he got quite the shock of his life, so he keeps quiet about them, however it seems like there may be someone who he can share this secret with and be able to give him some type of answer, but will he be able to do all of this without his father finding out?
For as long as he can remember, Kieran's dreams have told him more than he's ever wanted to know. So much so, that it's a cause for contention with those he loves. Determined to make sense of what he's constantly been seeing, he confides in the one person he never thought he'd divulge his secrets to. To his surprise, he's found an ally and a beloved confidante. He won't rest until he uncovers the secrets of his soul by any means necessary.
A wonderful beginning to The Keepers series, we're given such a lovely insight—even if it's not pretty, at times—into who and what Kieran is. This is a young man who's not sure of what to make about the constant dreams he's bombarded with. Deep inside, he knows there's more to the secrets his family keeps, most especially his father. Secrets he realizes may end up being more than he ever bargained for.
Meg has done a beautiful job in setting up what's coming next for Kieran and those he comes in contact with. She's painted such vivid pictures that you can imagine the unique world she's creating every step of the way. So much so, that you often find yourself wanting to know more about the world and the diverse characters she's created. I'm looking forward to seeing how far she'll expand this world she's painstakingly put together.
I read the The Dreamer when it was part of the Of Thrones and Crowns boxset. It’s a great set up for Kieran and Effie’s story. I was more than excited to read more about Effie. I’ve liked her since she was first introduced in The Chosen series. She’s such a strong and wonderful character. I haven’t decided how I feel about Kerian yet. He’s an interesting fellow and it seems like he might be a character I could possibly really like. I look forward to reading more about Effie and Kerian in the coming books.
This is a prequel to the Keeper's Legacy series, and if you haven't read the first book in this amazing series, this is the perfect place to start! This quick and enjoyable read gives you some background on the main characters, Kieran and Effie. Heck, even if you are like me and have already read book one, this is still a great read! Meg Anne is one of my most favorite authors! Her words will draw you into a magical world you never want to leave!
We meet Kieran, Prince of Eatos, who has had visions for as long as he can remember. He has Seen Effie many times and has come to believe that the two of them are meant to be together. Kieran leaves behind his family, friends and the only life he has ever known to find Effie and join her as a Keeper.
Kieran is steadfast in his feeling that Effie is his and you can’t help but love and admire his diligence as he learns who she is and searches for her.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This sweet, fast read provided amazing insight to a very prominent charter of the series and a better understanding of things that are to come. The story also gave us background on how Kieran came to be the man he is. I enjoyed the great details the author threaded between this book and the first of the series. I feel this this book can be read at anytime in the series. Overall I quite enjoyed it and am eager for the next books of the series.
This is a heart wrenching prequel to The keepers series that really helps the reader understand who Kieran is and where he gone from! Why he thinks that Effie is meant for him. This is a great book to start this series off and it really helps to get the reader excited to read more! Meg Anne really knows how to grab the reader by the heart, entice them and drag them into a unique and complicated world while leaving you excited for more!
First, I read this after I finished reading The Keepers Legacy, I’d recommend reading this one first as I feel it provides really great insight into Kieran’s background, and I definitely feel more of a connection with Kieran now. We learn who Kieran was/is, the sacrifices that he makes and why he chooses his path. Enjoyable and well-written, looking forward to the rest in this series.
