Short read and it was an ok read. I am ok with the insta love premise of her stories but this book seemed to be a little too much. I mean after 10 years in prison and he goes to his aunt’s house for thanksgiving dinner and he sees Amy and all of a sudden, they are doing the deed in the kitchen. A little unrealistic for me. The whole story just wasn’t enough to keep my invested. I basically just skimmed the last couple of chapters.

I don't mind over the top, that can be fun. But this was *blows out a breath* what was that? I don't even know. I read it to the end hoping I could somehow write a sensical review, but nope. If you like over the top and raunchy sex for little to no reason, you'll enjoy it. If you can suspend reality to the point literally no reality is involved in what the characters do, you'll enjoy it. If you ever want to look at Thanksgiving dinner the same again, you'll want to pass.
I got this book awhile ago and figured I'd read it now, since Thanksgiving is coming up. This was a doozy.
Starting out, I was a bit put off even in the first chapter by the writing style. Amy is 33 but her inner monologue sounds like that of a teenager. I chose to ignore this because it was a short read. I optimistically hoped the writing would get better. It didn't.
Angus isn't much better. His chapters came across as very 'women writing men'. His opening chapter was particularly cringe in this regard. Also, Amy deciding that him being in jail for ten years isn't important in the slightest was laughably unrealistic. She doesn't even want to know what he was in for? And I don't understand how he was supposed to be a sympathetic character. He punched out a prison guard when he didn't get his way at the parole hearing
I'm all for a book with twists and turns, but this was too much. It's just one plot point to another, none were all that fleshed out. First they're just having sex before dinner at his aunt's house (which was all the Amazon blurb mentioned BTW--no mention of the plot past the 35% mark), then the aunt tries to kill them, then he goes to jail, she waits three years, breaks him out of jail, sex again, then they almost get killed in a diamond mine before returning to America a decade later? Every plot point was loosely carried, then hurriedly wrapped up in a neat little bow at the end.
I guess the one positive is that it kept my attention. It was so cringe inducing that I got some entertainment out of it. It might be fun for a dramatic reading, but other than that, there are a lot of better things out there to spend your time reading.

Romance genre: insta-love Series: Curvy for the Holidays Length: 76 pages
Plot: Amy's elderly neighbors invite her over for Thanksgiving and she gladly accepts. She doesn't know that they've also invited their nephew Angus, who is recently out of prison. Angus takes one look at Amy and knows she's it for him - so of course he follows her into the kitchen, and well, I wouldn't eat anything prepared in that room. But his aunt and uncle are not quite what he thought, and Amy and Angus might make pretty good hostages. Or miners. Or prisoners. Take your pick?
Commentary: I never even know what to say about Anabelle Winters' books. They are so OTT. It's like Jessa Kane had a baby with Olivia T. Turner and then hit it with weird-a$$ sex hormones. And then put them in a porno. A lot of her heroes have been in prison, so there's the added aspect of them having some pent-up stress. And then there's the insta-love, insta-lust, insta-sex. The big curvy girl and the big burly felon. There is another series (starting with Curvy for Him: The Teacher and the Trainer) where not all the guys are felons, but most of them are definitely morally gray at the very least. Anyways, good fun. Yes, absolute WTF-times, but still, why not?
“Have you seriously not told your new live-in boyfriend that you have a thirty-three year old daughter?!” -Amy
“I’m too curvy to be a vampire. Vampires are skinny as hell, right? That liquid blood-diet. Slurp, slurp, swallow!” -Amy
Talk about a way to celebrate freedom. 🥵 How long was Angus out before the world came smashing onto him like the coyote slamming into a fake tunnel chasing the roadrunner? A beautiful woman and a delicious dinner? Then Aunt Raff? Wooza. That was a lot of stimulation for anyone to go through, much less someone that has spent the last ten years in a 6x8 room.
As for the storyline, things were fine till it started to jump in time. It made sense for word limits, but that causes the story to loose its heart for me. Too much too fast was being thrown at me making me not feel as connected to the story or characters.
Holy smoked turkey! This novella is so bad it's good. It's HILARIOUS. At first glance, this is a fast-paced, fast-burn romance with an insane plot. But is it really? After thinking really hard (just for a moment or three), I think this is a dark satire. Who hasn't sat at the Thanksgiving table with family - or a neighbor's family - and thought everyone was crazy? Wouldn't the dry turkey, clumpy gravy, and bland, overcooked vegetables be better if something exciting were to happen?
Maybe Aunt Maggie's mashed potatoes would be better applied to her forehead? Or Uncle Bob's apple pie should be paired with a little dry wit instead of a dry white wine? How about a little gun fire with your creamed corn?
I mean, when I think about all the old, repeated arguments with siblings or my parents' siblings, it sometimes seemed like we were one step away from strangling - or shooting - each other. Family can be a huge pain! Thanksgiving dinner is not that great!
Reading this short but bittersweet novel is so much better than choking down dry turkey.
So, this book was crazy over-the-top even by OTT standards, but you know what, I am here for it. The story bordered on magical with all its talk of destiny and fate, but somehow, it worked. As for Amy and Angus, they had such instant chemistry (ooh, that scene in the kitchen! *fans self*), and I loved that Amy was a confidently curvy chick while Angus was this beast of a man with the added bonus of a sexy Aussie accent.
However, things really went off the rails in the second half when a bit of reality set in. Without getting into spoilers, I will say that the situation Amy and Angus found themselves in (especially Angus) didn't bother me so much as the unnecessary drama that was heaped on top of it. I mean, I'm glad the story got back on track in the end, but surely, there was another way to get them to Australia and their happy-ever-after.
I mean, this was a lot and nothing at all. I am not a fan of insta-love, but less than 8 hours...can that be called insta-love when it is not a sentient romance?
So she is at outs with her mom, her neighbor invites her to dinner so she goes. He is just released on paroled after 10 years and also has a letter from his aunt inviting him to Thanksgiving.
She looks at him, he is so hard his wishbone lifts the table and she has to finish cooking the Turkey. Then we have them interrupted by someone trying to off them, he proposes while she is naked and the cops are there, he is arrested, she gets pregnant, a deal is given and she doesn't have to go to jail...there is more, a prison break...more and nine kids...
I mean, it was a never ending train that I am not sure if it got away or if it broke down

This is a new-to-me author. I enjoyed this book full of intrigue, lust, and love. Angus is freshly out of prison, and is invited to Thanksgiving dinner at his aunt’s house. Meanwhile one other guest is also invited to the dinner. Amy lives across the street from Angus’s aunt, and has also been invited to dinner. When they meet, there is an immediate attraction, and a relationship begins in the kitchen. Through threats of murder, greed, prison time, the couple escapes to Australia with their twin boys. They eventually return to the USA, and are cleared of all charges, and begin an HEA back home. This was a short story, but enjoyable, written by an author that I plan to read more of her books.
What do you do when your mom has other plans for Thanksgiving and your elderly neighbor invites you over? You go to the neighbors house. The elderly neighbor who also invites their nephew. A nephew who has been in prison for 10 years. A nephew that when you, as a guest, see him you want him. A nephew who is so turned on he can lift the table with his penis. The book really picks up from there and the craziness just begins. I hope I'm never invited to or at a Thanksgiving Dinner like this. Interesting quick read that I enjoyed. I do want to know why was he in prison for 10 years? And spoiler: What happened to the ring?
I wanted to love this short story but it fell short. I loved the drama and danger of the book. That's what kept me reading. Also, some parts seemed confusing. Some unbelievable.
What gets to me is the Thanksgiving scene. Who has sex with a stranger in a neighbors kitchen while the owners are in the other room? I don't know why but the scene just really didn't settle with me.
Angus and Amy were weird but definitely gave up far to soon. Who gets out of prison for 1 day and then goes back to prison for years for something they did not do?! Ridiculous.
This was my first book from this author and I thought it was alright.. some of the things that happened were so far fetched, a little unbelievable and jumped around . Angus is finally free, stuck in prison for 10 yrs he is released and doesn't know where to go. He finds a letter from his aunt inviting him over for Thanksgiving, he feels this is a sign for something good he decides to go. Amy finds out her mother will not be spending Thanksgiving with her, frustrated with it all her neighbor invites her over.. once there she figures out this was her neighbors way trying to set up both Angus and Amy
I loved everything about this short novella! There is so much happening in this story from the dinner, to the love, and then going on the lamb... I cannot even process how Annabelle managed to get so much into this short story. Part of me felt like this should have been a full length novel so more of the storyline could be developed. Overall it was a decent little story. The spice was spicing and I'm not talking about the Turkey dinner. I laughed a lot! The situation in the beginning of this story is just so random but needed I think to break up the rest of the seriousness in the storyline.
There's over the top good, and there's over the top not so good. Sadly, this was in the second category. **spoilers** 1) She has sex with a guy in the neighbor's kitchen after just meeting him? 2) His aunt tries to kill him in front of someone? 3) Forensics should have backed up the couple's story 4) Everyone has twins! 5) A good-girl helps break her man out of prison? (Is it really that easy?) 6) NINE kids? She was 33 at the start of the book! 7) The aunt gets blown up! 8) They wind up being able to prove they deserve residuals from a diamond mind ! Yeah... just a little too OTT.
This book was a DNF, and it deserved to be. I don't mind erotica, been reading it all of my life. But crude erotica doesn't read well, especially when combined with a totally unbelievable plot and some of the worst dialogue that I've ever read. And I mean crude. Sex and erotica are beautiful when written correctly. There should be passion, and this didn't have it. It DID have insta-love along with a crude treatment of sex, for the sake of sex, rather than for the sake of love or romance. No thank you. I got through 25% of the book and realized I was already sorry I'd bought it.
OMG I know its only a 80 something page book but talk about insta love! Meets a friends nephew at Thanksgiving dinner then less than an hour later, they are in the kitchen (with her friend and her friends husband in the other room) "getting to know each other very well!" shortly after he goes to propose when something happens... no spoilers but I honestly wouldn't bother with this one. Loads of time jumps, 3 weeks later, 3 years later, 1 month later and so on and so on! and to be honest, everything wraps up wayyy to easily - would not recommend!
*Spoilers* It was an okay read. So much story crammed into so few pages. It often left me feeling a bit confused and overwhelmed with what was going on. A curvy girl is invited to thanksgiving dinner and meets an ex-convict fresh out of jail. Within minutes she's his, next thing they're hostages, next thing they're arrested and she's pregnant. It's all a bit much.

This was a beautiful journey about life love and loss. This story was beautifully written and Agnus’s alpha personality was so addictive I couldn’t put it down! I actually read this in one sitting because Amy and Agnus’s chemistry was so palpable it left me wanting to know where they would end up in the end.

Shit this was a wild one. I wondered what Mrs Raff was up to with the thanksgiving invites. I never imagined what her motives would turn out to be. Oh my God this was unbelievable. I was mad Angus had to go back and serve time again, he was innocent this time. His aunt is a she devil. He got Amy forever after so that was a good thing.
Sure, why not. You've been in prison for 10 yrs and you meet a woman that hasn't been with a man for 10 yrs, what do you expect? But in the kitchen while your relatives are in the next room? It's a stretch, but hey, it's fiction. It's well written, you get a good feel for the characters, and it moves along at a good pace; that's a lot to ask from a short story. But it delivered and I enjoyed it.
I enjoyed reading this book, it told a real life story. A real sized woman doing real life things. Angus was a hulk of a man, he really didn't do anything bad to me, that he needed forgiveness for, though he felt he needed it. The twins were so sweet, and Amy was so understanding.
