What lies beyond Blackmoor Cove and its connected Tower? When two displaced Heroes from the recently fallen Town of Emberstone seek refuge from the advancing Corruption, some people begin to believe that Jack’s brazen defiance of traditional ways has terrible consequences. New Buildings, new Townsfolk, and new Heroes bring new opportunities for everyone, and as Jack continues pushing them forward, the virtual entities around him begin to explore the limits of Subroutine Sana. This “Crunchy” GameLIT/LitRPG story Item-Based character growth, empire building, unique monsters, bizarre boss fights, and the abuse of game mechanics.
Mistakes: I didn’t find anything wrong. If I had one complaint it would be that the book was to short. Plot: More tower floors, but no repeating every floor this time. Town growth was also good. Characters: We got some new characters, both good and bad. I like the new characters that showed up and liked how they didn’t become the focus of the book. Instead they played interesting bit parts that added more flavor to the world. 8/10
This book and series is fun. The mechanics are interesting and more unique than many LitRPGs and I look forward to it's continuation.
There are two minor issues I have with it. The first is a common problem in this genre, the MC never fails. Jack makes mistakes sure, but they never have any permenance. I'd like to see more consequences.
Second, the author has some consistency issues. Nothing game breaking but things like the world changed names with no explanation, Subroutine Sana became System Sana. Or an item having an effect on "Level Entrance" whereas every other item in the books refers to "Floor Entrance". I can only hope these problems remain confined to small things and nothing major or plot related.
Jack and his hero friends must fight back this corruption in order to save the world. Yet to do that, he must level up his small fledgling town into a kingdom and gain power by climbing the tower of terror.
A lot of the leveling of the town starts off rushed as Jack needs to build up his townfolk but the attention to the tower battles and how they maneuver in them are very engaging. All the rush town leveling does pay off near the end.
I was tempted to give it only 4 star because parts of the story felt rushed, yet even the characters themselves said how rushed everything was, so there this weird relatable I felt. You must read this book to get that connection. Venter pulls a lot of new concepts from various video games and D&D models. Plus the his attention to the tower battles are detailed and exciting, hence the 5 stars. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next 4-5 books.
New things are afoot, tinkering with the way the world works and more importantly how the denizens think.
Jack is at it again. Changing minds, and more importantly changing hearts. The story only grows stronger as our Hero's start to truly learn and question their world. How will Jack "Cheese" the system this time, and will The Corruptions catch wind of what's going on?
Justin Thomas James again with the insightful narration. Solid inflection and feelings really draw you into the story. I stared this one in the morning and only stopped when my headphones started to die and complain. SBT draws you deeper again with subtle music, sound effects, and the help of Jeff Hays and Andrea Parsneau rounding out the different characters giving you the feel of being there first hand instead of just having a book read to you.
My Rating System: 5- Perfect for my taste, could not physically stop reading/listening, wanted more afterword. 4- Almost perfect, could not stop reading/listening, probably wanted more afterword. 3- Enjoyed the book, could see others loving it, need to think if I want more. 2- Can see why others might like the book, but I could not, I do not want more. 1- What is this? What went wrong? Why did they do this? This doesn't make any sense! (No idea who it is for but definitely not for me).
[Audiobook Version]
I kept feeling like this series was missing something for me and I think I found it. While there is technically real danger, it does not really come across that way. Not sure why. I will probably come back to the series since it is really good, I just don't think its for me currently.
This book has some of the best plot progression I've seen in years! The story both moves forward intelligently, and significant advancement of the main plot progresses in every book. Also, the writing is just as good if not better than the writing in book 1! A huge rarity these days since most books get worse, and worse as the series goes, and the plot hardly progresses until they finish the series and a TON of only half believable stuff happens. This feels well written, and not rushed.
I'm genuinely looking forward to the next book in the series!!
What is there to say but this book was amazing it is definitely the best book in the series so far and I can't wait until the next book. The progression in the book is superb and I thoroughly enjoyed the part where I was on the edge of my seat and thinking something was going to happen and I was ready to curse the world then it was fine it had my nerves fraying at the edges don't get me wrong I loved it I'm glad the book wasn't predictable. as a side note the narration cast absolutely did a simply phenomenal job as the books progress the narration cast gets better and better all the way around this book is a must-read.
As it's normally the case, I grade on an entertainment scale. I start with this statement because I want to make sure that people understand that there are mistakes in this book that can eschew the rating differently, depending on how you take things.
Like I said though, from a pure enjoyment factor this was nearly a 5 star for me. Between the clear "levelling" mechanics, the settlement building and the tower climbing, it's a really fun book.
Book 1 is great, it gets me excited for the main character and has a unique and interesting world to explore.
Book 2 is not as great. It introduces nothing new, it does not advance the plot, and could actually be skipped with zero confusion. I almost did not move on to book 3. I am glad I did however.
Book 3 is amazing. It advances the plot in new directions, things are moving, our main character actually uses his mind for the first time ever, etc.
I would suggest this is a good series, and when on book 2, push through as the next book is definitely worth it.
Book one felt like it took awhile to get going. Book two felt like there were real possibilities for the story to grow. Book three hits the sweet spot. Dynamic and growing characters who bring diversity of ideas without lots of needless drama. The tower climbs drive the story along smoothly with interesting twists. I'm keenly looking forward to the next book.
I am glad the writer stopped referring to the only large person as doughy. However some of the stats didnt line up and several wrong words again. As far as the story, I love how it feels that it is growing and yet it's not complicated to follow. Many characters coming and going yet so far no trouble keeping track of all of them. Can't wait for book 4!
The third book. I originally only listened to the first book in Audible because it had Jeff Hays as the voice of Jack. I've not made it past the third book in Audible, but decided to actually read them myself. They are an easy read, enjoyable and pretty quick books to read. This book took two nights.
If you've read the first two, you know what you are going to get. More climbing the Tower more expanding the world.
I sat and read this whole book in one sitting, cover to cover. It carries on from the previous book fabulously, weaving in so many more new ideas without leaving the rest behind. New characters come and go, and the whole thing feels fluid. Read this book, it’s fantastic!
This is book 3, fantasy gameLit crunchy. I had a good time with this, and have greatly enjoyed this series. Sort of like a dungeon grind combined with a road trip with good friends -- immensely solid entertainment while you wonder where the time went. Looking forward to book 4. Good job, Prax! Highly reccomended.
Pray Venter writes very well. The previous two Irrelevant Jack books were spell binding. I read this one in a day and loved the connections to the former books, the continuous character developments, the intricacies of Alt and his created system, and the growth of the citizens. What a fun read!
I wasn’t sure I was going to like the series when I thought that it was all taking place in a tower and that it was equipment that leveled up character stats instead of experience.... but I’m really glad I started. Now I’m waiting for the next book after binge reading the first three!
With the heroes reaching higher levels and multiple ones at that, the focus on battles inside the tower is not that interesting anymore. The changes to the world and the towns are what kept me interested. I think the writing might have to be focused into these new changes to keep readers coming back for more.
It had to be expected, as there's only so much you can do focused on tower climbing. So this adds multiple elements - outdoor combat, kingdom building, and so on. That's relatively well executed, but it does cause a shift in story that may or may not appear to the people who liked the original storyline.
If you enjoyed the first two books then definitely grab this one. The author provides a great balance of story elements outside just the tower runs which has helped keep my interest in reading further high. And considering the core of the story is a highly repetitive tower run task, that’s says a lot. Looking forward to book four. 🙂
Ok, this had a few nice twists. Now that they have a layout of the land how did they plan to take it back, what will the corruption do? Will we get to see its side of the events? Will Kaylee find a way to expand their personal 16 slot limit? I can’t wait to figure out the answers to that.
Very cool story here. If you've read the other books in the series, then you'll feel right at home here. If you haven't, then no worries, this story picks up where the last one left off, but you won't miss critical information, as the gist of the story is easy enough to pick up from context, you too can still enjoy this offering. Fun stuff.
What happens in a hardcore GameLit world when the people become self-aware that they’re part of such. How authors handle brilliant NPC characters can tell you a lot, and here we can see how a growing font of creativity can really get things spinning. So much going on! Great stuff. Definitely recommended nice read / nice series (16+)
When fighting corruption life is short unless you learn how to cheat the system. When this happens, tons of possibilities appear. Jack has been in love with Lux since he came into this world and when he is named King, he decides that every King needs a Queen...
More of the same from the previous books. There's a move now towards "kingdom building" rather than just base building. The problem is that the characters are really just cardboard cut outs and it's beginning to show
Think I'm going to stop with this series now. Don't really care about the characters
I enjoyed this book and finished it in one sitting. There are new characters, new monsters and new floors. I like the way the world is expanding and the development of the characters is progressing. I look forward to book 4.
A truly unique storyline which is fun to read. The author has done a great job of writing something unique, and like the MC not irrelevant despite the title. Highly recommended to all!!
Irrelevant Jack is one of the better litrpg series out there. This 3rd installment continues the story and we finally get to see towns outside the starter town.
Consistently strong series. Love the concept and the characters. Can’t wait for the next book. When I noticed this book was available, I took a break from another series I was reading because I wanted to catch up with Jack.
The previous book was very repetitive in just climbing the tower. This book provided better balance with more action options in the village etc. A good addition that moved the story along well.
