You’ve read the Book of Mormon before, but maybe you’ve missed these oft overlooked but short, powerful verses. Explore the significance of one verse from each chapter this year with Emily Belle Freeman and David Butler, whose love for the scriptures is contagious. Along with short devotional-style lessons, their invitations will lead you to a more meaningful, personal study of the Book of Mormon and vibrant discussions with your family and friends about its teachings. You may also enjoy looking for your personal “don’t miss this” verse as you study on your own. Short enough to read quickly and share every day, you’ll easily rediscover just how completely the teachings and truths of the Book of Mormon apply to and enrich your life today.
Emily Freeman and Simon Dewey collaborated on the bestselling book The Ten Virgins. For nearly 20 years, Emily has addressed groups of women as a writer, songwriter, and motivational speaker. Her deep love of the scriptures comes from a strong desire to find their application in modern-day life. Emily and her husband, Greg, are the parents of four children and live in Lehi, Utah.
This was a joy to read and a wonderful companion study guide to my Book of Mormon reading!
I was touched by some of Emily's and David's stories and learned insights that I would have missed otherwise. While we are having restricted church meetings, I can't see a better way to fill in with this little book.
I am looking forward to Don't Miss this -- D&C version.
What an amazing, soul fulfilling book! I gained so many new insights of the Book of Mormon and into the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It has deepened my testimony of the savior and His mission. I love their perspectives and stories on these verses. It was the perfect companion to my scripture study and come follow me.
I absolutely love Emily Belle Freeman and David Butler’s Don’t Miss This books! Their heartfelt stories and uplifting scripture insights always bring me closer to the Lord and inspire me to see His hand in my life.
One of my favorite examples is from their discussion of Ether 12:41, where David Butler writes: “After summarizing the war-torn history of the Jaredites, a story that ended in destruction but was also full of miracles, Moroni gave future readers like you and me this simple bit of advice: ‘Seek this Jesus.’ Which Jesus? The one ‘whom the prophets and apostles have written’ about. The one they gave their wealth, time, and everything for. Seek for Him. He is the answer every time.
This is the advice I want my kids to leave home with. I don’t care if they know how to jump-start a car, apply for a loan, or plant a peach tree—they can Google those things. What I want them to know is that they can rely on Jesus in all situations. It’s the advice I want to give to my friends. It’s the advice I would give to you with any problem or difficulty you are facing: Seek this Jesus. Because when you do, the ‘grace of God’ will ‘be and abide in you forever.’ Jesus is strength. He is compassion. He is second chances. He is grace. He is God.”
This powerful reminder resonates deeply with me. Freeman and Butler have a way of making scripture both relatable and transformative, helping me focus on what truly matters. Their books help me draw closer to the Savior!
Such great questions to think about and ponder and take action on. Very short thoughts, but very poignant.
This is probably a book you want a hardcopy of so you can jot some notes, and then continue to go back and reflect, and add more notes. The small “chapters” will have application in different months or stages of your life.
It’s very nicely done, I really enjoyed it. And it taught me the little questions and “sermons” I think of after reading one scripture or one sentence is really all I need sometimes. It’s a perfect place to start.
We have read most of this book aloud as a family. Thoughtfully crafted and well-executed, the authors highlight one verse from each chapter of the Book of Mormon and expound on a principle or theme with personal experiences and insightful commentary. In addition, there are questions to ponder and challenges to act upon for each verse. Easy to read one "lesson" per day in conjunction with a study of the Book of Mormon. Highly recommended for personal and family use.
This year in Sunday School we studied "The Book of Mormon." This guide opened my eyes to some things I hadn't thought of before, even though I have read the book several times. I appreciated the insights and the book helped me glean more from my study of "The Book of Mormon." I would recommend this to everyone. It is definitely a keeper on my shelf.
Though I’ve read the Book of Mormon several times, always learning new things each time, I still appreciated this book’s new insight for each chapter. Emily Freeman and David Butler are such amazing scripture scholars, and are able to pull insights from their own lives and experiences so well—which is helpful in putting certain scriptures into context.
A devotional about one verse from each chapter of The Book of Mormon. Inspirational and thought provoking insights provided with a question or challenge attached to each one.
FABULOUS and INSPIRING short thoughts to lift your day! Loved the voice in the writing of both authors (Emily Belle Freeman and David Butler). I am a better person for having read this book!
Great tidbits while studying the Book of Mormon this year. I like that you can use it as a lesson for FHE, mini devotionals, or just to deepen my studying throughout the week.
My favorite verse didn't always jibe with theirs but it really got me to thinking. I loved the stories about how they applied the verse they choose to real life.
I read this as part of the come follow me study i do every week for my calling. very inspiring. I filed this book under the prompt read a book recommended on a podcast (booklist queen 2024)
I enjoyed reading the short stories associated with one verse from each chapter. It helped me see how you can dig into the smallest of phrases and see how they manifest in your life.
