Pocket Monsters: Festival of Champions
The Indigo League: the ultimate challenge for Pokémon trainers. Structured like a massive tournament, anyone eager to show off their Pokémon can participate, from rookies to gym leaders to even the Elite Four themselves.
This is the story of Red, Blue, and Green, three friends who decide to partake in the tournament.

The greatest piece of media in the Pokemon franchise is this comic, which is neither canon nor finished.
The magnificent and brutal art mixed with the extremely emotional dialogue and plot, this story is a constant explosion of beautiful art, impactful prose, awe inspiring fight scenes and colourful characters.
The only two negative things I have to say are pretty minor: 1. The dialogue/exposition can get a bit wordy at parts. 2. The tactical aspect of the combat is a bit undercut by the fact that we are learning this take on how Pokemon battling/moves work as we go, whilst not fully "asspully" it can feel somewhat as such at a few points. Overall though the writing and combat is amazing.
People always appraise the god-tier art of FoC but I want to chime in to say that the writing is just as high quality. "There is only one road" will stick with me for a long time.
As a controversial bonus I also like how this series has regular animal existing in-universe alongside Pokemon. Makes Pokemon seem like special creatures rather than the Pokemon universe's regular animals.

Genuinely has no right being this good. It's absurd how great it is.
This is the thing to read if you played Pokémon red and blue and gold and silver and that when you were a kid and want a story that will evoke the same sort of feelings and emotions in you as an adult that pokemon evoked in you as a kid.
It's all about following your dreams and forging bonds with Pokémon and the amazingness of Pokémon but at a level of sophistication and maturity adults can appreciate and read to make them feel like kids again.
Genuinely shocked this is a doujinshi as it's clearly better than literally everything official ever made. Absolute madness this guy hasn't been snapped up by the pokemon company to do this professionally for them under licence (albeit likely with some edits).

This thing is still being written, but nothing new has come out in over a year, so now that I'm caught up, I'll just leave it here as read.
A solid fan-made story about the three famous Pokémon trainers from Pallet Town - Red, Green, and Blue. If you've got Pokémon in your background and like a good story, this one is worth reading. It's easy to find for free online and I can send folks the link if you really want it.
Unfortunately, this is basically 13 and a half comics that have been written so far. I suspect more will come in the future, but go in knowing the story is unfinished and it will probably be awhile before it finds a true conclusion.
Still, very good stuff: 4/5

Still in progress, but every single chapter is a peak imagining of a deeper, grittier, more nuanced story highlighting the darker parts of the Pokémon universe while maintaining that incredible lighthearted sense of companionship and adventure that makes up the core of every classic Pokémon story. Very excited to see how this progresses.

genuinely such a good pokemon fan manga that's still ongoing, but this manga albeit somewhat edgy, tackles some really good/cool plot points such as how every trainer fights, what they fight for, and even more than that their mental and emotional states as well as their pokemons.
