I got this book as an ARC from Netgalley
It was kind of alright - sort of cute. The characters had some development, it was some bored-parts but overall cute.

This was a surprisingly well written book by a first-time author!

Noe Burke is a famous Grammy-winning rock star. Two years after suffering a tragic and devastating loss, he’s desperate for a break and needs to make some changes to his life. So he heads home to Seattle for some down time, and the chance to be his normal self (aka Jon Abbott). When a chance encounter introduces him to the vegan lifestyle, he immerses himself in research and joins an online forum hoping for answers to his plethora of questions.

Katy Moore suffered her own painful loss recently and has been passing the time with a younger man, hoping it will turn into something meaningful. When it doesn’t, she throws herself into plans to open a small farm/animal sanctuary and buying a favorite horse she works with at a physical therapy horse center where she volunteers. In her free time, she visits an online vegan forum, where she’s happy to dispense knowledge and answer questions from newcomers.

After several days of back and forth between Jon and Katy on the message board, they decide to exchange phone numbers. Then after spending weeks on the phone, Jon invites Katy to Seattle to visit and help introduce him completely in how to be vegan. Though hesitant at first, Katy agrees, and looks forward to meeting Jon in person.

Things don’t go smoothly for Jon and Katy in Seattle though, thanks to a meddling “best friend” who continually interferes and facilitates miscommunications and misunderstandings at every opportunity.

It’s exciting to discover a brand new author, especially when they do such a great job not spitting out the same thing just about every other author does in the romance genre. There were no alpha males, no insta-lust, no repetitive thoughts about pecs (or other body parts). No, none of that, thank goodness. Instead, we get a compelling story about a relationship that develops at a realistic pace. These were two mature, adult people who behaved as such, and it was refreshing to read a story without a bunch of angst. While the antics of Jon’s friend reached soap opera-style meddling, it added just the right amount of drama without being over the top ridiculous.

I was concerned that the story would be preachy, or one big advertisement for the vegan lifestyle. It wasn’t. That part of the storyline was just that - a part. An integral part, but not one that was overpowering. This was a story about Jon and Katy, who met each other because of an interest in being vegan, and not a book about being a vegan with some romance thrown in. Sometimes authors want to share what they are passionate about, and that will come through in the story to the detriment of a plot in the rest of the book. I would say the vegan storyline took a definitive back seat to Jon and Katy’s relationship (as it should, in my opinion), but still shared enough information that I now feel more educated about vegans, what they believe, and the challenges they face trying to live in a world that isn’t really vegan friendly.

The question I always ask myself after reading a book by a first-time author is “would I be willing to read another of their books?” This time, the answer is a resounding YES! There is a shortage of authors who write compelling, realistic stories about mature adults, and do so without all the silly storytelling techniques so prevalent today. I hope Ms. Reese has more stories in her, because I’d be happy to read them!

Sing a song of love with all your heart. Sing about what could be. But how do you keep a romantic melody playing if a sour note is hit? Katy's Song is a fun duet between two endearing characters. A duet differs from a harmony. The performers take turns performing a solo section each. In this case the primo is an adored and celebrated rock star. He feels trapped in the confines of a lifestyle that had long ago lost its luster. The secondo is a strong, Texas woman who has a cherished dream for her future and is struggling to find a way to make it happen. She's also struggling to see how her current boyfriend could possibly fit into her dream. Can these two distinct personalities find a way to harmonize together?

A chance meeting for the right two people, at just the right time is unpredictable. It becomes enchanting when it develops into a conversation, then an interest, and the possibility of a spark between them. It can happen anywhere. For Katy and Noe it's an online chat room where they meet. People are discussing a vegan lifestyle. The discussion turns from a group to just the two of them. They become intrigued with their perspectives on the topic, and with each other. Noe wants to convert to this new, healthier lifestyle and invites Katy to Seattle to help him. He hires her as his vegan consultant for a week.

Katy's flight to Seattle does not go as planned, and that's just the beginning of unexpected events. The people she meets in Washington are fascinating characters including a busy Ballard bar owner. And then there is Rebecca, who Noe describes as “a meddlesome person who also happens to be my best friend.” The adventures in Seattle are funny, and sweet, and sometimes amorous. But there is a force of nature that is acting against Katy and Noe, working to tear them apart. They are both unaware of it's persistence until finally they find themselves at a turning point. Is it possible for them to keep the music playing, together? Can they share a future dream?

Along with the memorable characters, the beautiful settings of Seattle and Fort Worth are shown in the pages so very well by the author. The contrasts of the two cities enhance the contrasts of Katy and Noe. Yet, there is also an underlying connection between the two locations, skillfully painted by the author. The descriptions of the vegan lifestyle are a highlight. As the characters learn more about being vegan, so does the reader. As is true with a loving relationship, there is more to vegan than seen on the surface. At the end of the book enjoy an added treat – vegan recipes to try yourself.

The author Alison Reese has created a captivating love story that delights. She is a graduate of Central Washington University and considers herself a hopeful romantic. Having lived in many places such as Utah, Alaska, Nevada, Texas, and Washington, she's gathered rich material over the years. She is vegan, and found the learning process quite fascinating. Now Katy's Song shares romance and the vegan lifestyle with readers too.

Adorable. Adorable and so damn sweet that I read the entire book in a single sitting.

Jon Abbott (or Noe Burke in the music world) is a rock star in desperate need of a break. Katy Moore is a vegan who volunteers at a horse therapy centre and dreams of her own animal sanctuary. They nearly meet once and it’s only thanks to Jon’s sudden shift to a vegan lifestyle that they’re given a second chance. In a serendipitous twist, the online forum where he starts his research is also a place where Katy often visits. Messages are exchanged, some flirting ensues, and Katy soon finds herself with a first-class ticket to Seattle to help Jon find his vegan footing. Unfortunately, Rebecca, Jon’s best friend has placed herself directly in their path and the budding couple need to find the truth in the midst of miscommunication and manipulation before they can truly be together.

So I’m going to be brutally honest for a moment – this wasn’t the best contemporary romance I’ve ever read, but the characters. Oh my God, I fell in love the characters. Jon and Katy were strong and mature and just… adult. I love that their relationship didn’t occur overnight, but developed over time, and they dealt with obstacles without over-the-top drama. I appreciated the shots of vegan information and I very much appreciated that while Rebecca was supposed to be a conflict between them, she was not cast as the “spurned woman”. The meet-cute was simply delightful and honestly, refreshing and reflective of today’s dating scene. A lovely, feel-good modern romance that will pull at your heart strings and make you smile all the way through.

Thank you Voracious Readers and Alison Reese for my copy!

This book was well written for a first time author! It has a modern romance feel with how they meet. I enjoyed the characters and the storyline. I can't wait to read the next book Alison Reese writes.

This is my first book by Alison Reese and I am hooked! A wonderful second chance at love story for two people whose hearts have been badly broken with a twist!
Jon Noe Abbot is an award winning rockstar who lost his beloved wife and daughter in a car crash two years ago living a reclusive life in Seattle.
Katy is a divorced vegan accountant who has been divorced from her cheating husband about the same amount of time. Living in Firt Worth, Texas, she has a bad habit of falling in love too easily. When a younger playboy professional baseball player breaks her heart again she swears off men. In a chance meeting on a vegan forum online, she and Jon connect. She feels drawn to him but he’s not ready to reveal his true identity since most women only see “the rich rockstar”, usually with dollar signs in their eyes.
Does he stand a chance with Katy? Is she over her ex? Can Katy cement the connection she feels between them? With thousands of miles separating them?
A Must Read from Alison!!!

Modern romance is not normally my first pick in reading, but this book is was exceptional. It is a wonderfully bittersweet story of love and loss and love found again. Written about a vegan romantic relationship as only a vegan can tell, it even has two some recipes at the end. What I loved most was that it a very current modern romance with out the oft offensive detailed touch by touch descriiptions. It was a very hard book to put down once I started reading.

how to cope with love and the loss of love, betrayal, how to cope and move on from the love of your life, to maintain and regain happiness, choosing the wrong person is sometimes inevitable when you are trying to fill a hole in your heart. How to move on is learning how to fill that empty space with the right person.

I loved this book! It stands above the recent romances I’ve read. Appreciate the depth of the character development. Everything was cleared up by the end without leaving any unanswered questions or points. Nice that recipes were included.

Katy’s song by Alison Reese .
Neo Burke is an multi-award winning musician who two years after the death of his wife is ready to start looking for love and commitment. But the women he attracts seem interested only in his celebrity, So he decides to concentrate on his health and takes a hiatus at his small isolated cabin away from the public eye. A chance meeting with a stranger who gives him a lift and gives him a book on veganism and how it changed his life and improved his health after he lost 80lbs.
Thirty-something vegan Katy enjoys experimenting with recipes and volunteering at an equine therapy center in Fort Worth. She dreams of building an animal sanctuary, but money's tight and options are dwindling.
When Noe encounters Katy on a vegan forum, he hires her as his consultant, offering a generous salary along with an all-expense-paid trip to Seattle. But his best friend Rebecca suspects he is dangerously close to handing his heart to the wrong woman, and she begins to manipulate their relationship.
Though when Katy does go to Seattle she has know idea who Noe is as she only knows him as Jon. When they do meet she doesn’t treat him as a rock star just as a normal every day person which is refreshing for Noe. Whilst Rebecca is meddling the go to a baseball game Katy crosses paths with her recent ex who is a ball player . It all be comes a mess . Will love overcomes in the end???

Loved the book warm-hearted well written . Everything to love. With lots of twists and turns enjoyable read !

"Katy's Song" did a stupendous job taking you on the high's and lows of "will they get together or won't they." Every time Jon and Katy took a step forward, life dealt them a step backward. I found myself devouring pages, wondering If they could overcome the constant interfernce by the foil, Rebecca.

The characters are well rounded and authentic. Jon, a famous musician, is recovering from a tragic event several years prior, and looking to turn a new page in his life. Katy is skeptical of love, but finds herself caught up in the moment as their relationship blooms. Rebecca's motivation to keep the two apart is thoroughly believable as she is caught up by both her love of Jon and the history they share.

The plot of Jon hiring Katy to be his vegan coach is well done and approachable. Never once did Alison Reese get preachy about the topic. Having been introduced to the lifestyle by vegan friends in my life, I tip my cap to her, since it is a subject bound to ruffle some feathers. Instead of being turned off by the topic, I found myself interested in learning more.
