Welcome to Starry Hollow, where spells were made to be broken.
A wedding may be a new beginning for Bentley and Meadow, but it's an ending for one of their obnoxious guests. When Sheriff Nash starts showing more wolf than warmth during the investigation, paranormals sit up and take notice, especially ones in positions of power. Ember and Deputy Bolan agree to work together to keep the sheriff from losing his badge, but the werewolf's antics won't make it easy. Meanwhile, Ember stumbles upon another piece of her ancestor Ivy's past that may help reveal her story, if she can manage to get past the powerful magic that seems to surround all of Ivy's former possessions.
Can Ember solve the murder in time or will Granger's reign as sheriff finally come to a bittersweet end?

I had forgotten how much I love Embers and Marley's relationship, and I'm glad about the BOS discovery. I appreciate the maturity of seeking counseling for the Ember/Alec pairing., but let's not make him a wimp! The murder mystery was fine, but the lack of concern over Granger's behavior was the real puzzler. And I am SO over the whole I'm from Jersey so my incompetence is okay" attitude! The ending was a pleasure, and I'll be back in Starry Hollow.
At the wedding of Ember’s co-worker Bently and his fiancé, Meadow, to the surprise of no one, Ember comes across another body! The victim is an obnoxious troll, Shayna, who seems to have been strangled in a port-a-potty. It couldn’t happen to anyone else. Due to the estrangement between Granger and Ember, she is staying away from the investigation until contacted by deputy Bolin, who lets her know that Granger is not himself, he’s actually acting more like his brother Wyatt. There is also a threat from the Enclave that Granger could lose his job if something isn’t done. Ember needs to help figure out the problem, but she is also suspicious of her aunts’ new boyfriend, Craig, as well as trying to get more information on her ancestor, Ivy. This has the usual nice, little mystery as well as the great character interactions. Ember is not quite as bad at magic as she seems, she’s definitely good at checking out murders. There is a lot of fun in this book, I really like the fact that the grand Magus, is a closet Harry Potter fan thanks to a trip to the human world. A fun, easy, quick read. This is the tenth book in a nineteen-book series. I will be taking a short break because I can only take the sweetness of this for so long. After some books with a bit more action I will be finishing the series because I do really enjoy it.
I enjoyed this reading more about Ember and her daughter as they adapt to life in Starry Hollow. More mysteries and more magic abund!

Listen. I’ve read 18 of this author’s books in a row so I obviously enjoy them a lot, which results in me only speaking out when something annoys me. The Granger plot annoyed the shit out of me. She’s really turning this dude into a soppy sad puppy and it’s annoyinnnng. He’s allowed to still be stuck on her but stop dragging it out. Just let it be a comment or two and let the man beeeee. An entire plot about him banging half the town (when Ember hasn’t had sex in like six years btw) is just cringey. And also! Let the woman get laid! Both her dudes have gotten laid now in the past eleven books, why is the author intent on having her be some sort of PG heroine? Is it a subtle slut shame? Idk man I just want adults to act like adults.

It's Bentley and Meadow's wedding day and Ember has a special task which as usual doesn't exactly go to plan.. and then things get worse as she finds Shayna's body in a porta potty..
The troll had been loud and made many unkind comments but who had she annoyed that much? The investigation is sidelined by Sheriff Nash as he suddenly starts acting more like Wyatt than himself.. as complaints arrive at the Elders Counsel Ember is called in by Deputy Bolam to help solve the murder and secretly by Arthur the werewolf Elder to save Granger's job. She only has a week..
Every time I have the same thought, why go see potential murders alone. In every book, it's the same thing. I keep thinking about how she doesn't learn from her previous mistakes. Each book she keeps doing things, it's so frustrating.
I keep thinking you can't keep banging your head against the wall each time and not change your actions. Nothing will change if you keep doing the same things.
I want to see Ember progressing in her studies and doing more than just surviving attempted murder in every book.
These books are a fun read and fairly short. The main character is a witch with an irreverent reaction to most things in life. Humor sees her thru and she seems to listen up the stiffest creatures with her comments. I love her relationships with everyone in the stories but she seems to be a magnet for dead bodies. She finds them often and then helps the sheriffs office solve each case. It’s a new fun version of paranormals.
Raoul is her raccoon familiar. There's also Alec, a vampire, Bonkers, a flying kiten, Bentley, an elf, and Granger, a werewolf. There's a strangled person, , an attempt by Ember to learn about herbs and a buried book which will prove to be quite important.
There's also something wrong with the sheriff and a question of whether or not she will live to the next volume.
I have seriously enjoyed the previous books in this series, but the behavior of Ember, the main character was huge - through at least half of the book she acted like an immature, sullen child that refuses to do essential work and treats those trying to help her totally disrespectfully that was far over the line, and not the single mother that raised a child mostly on her own.
Something is wrong with Sheriff Nash. Granger is definitely not acting like himself, and the Council of Elders is threatening to fire him. Plus, there’s been another murder. It’s Ember to the rescue, as she races to find the killer and figure out what’s wrong with the sheriff. Another must read from Ms Chase!
Well this one starts out with a quick moment that quickly goes from bad to worse and poor Sheriff Nash is in for it. Ember is determined to find out more about Ivy and why her things were passed down to Marley. As always plenty of entertainment with the Annabel Chase series.
I really enjoyed this book, it wasn't the usual issues with the plot line, and we met new characters and got to see different sides of the characters we already know. I especially liked the Grainger storyline, I wish they would get back together.
This series has been a lot of laughs. This book is no different. Always some new mess or murder or mystery that Ember has to solve or help with while trying to get out of her own lessons. Loved it.
Once a true friend, always a true friend. It should always be this way. Real true friends would never leave you. Granger gets in trouble, Marley has doubts about herself and Amber saves the day.
Ember continues to save the day one death at a time. She is steady wracking up the death toll in Starry Hollow. I just hope that one day she will figure out the important mystery and help Marley with her magic.
I don't know how Annabel Chase continues to write fun books, but she does! With the beauty of the world she has created and the characters, anyone would be drawn into this series. Read and enjoy everyone!
Ember and Alec are invited to a co worker's wedding. All Ember had to do was one small spell....yeah, right. Ember is in the thick of another. I'm really enjoying this series.
Read 10 books so far in 4 days , happy to see references to spellbound another if Annabel series also very good, references to Harry Potter made me laugh , this too could be as good as and televised
Really enjoyed reading this book just as much as the previous nine books. Really recommend reading you won't be sorry you did. Looking forward to reading the next in this series.
I’ve enjoyed this series but hit my limit. At some point the stories just get repetitive and we are there. Ember isn’t growing and so it’s getting boring now.
They are delightful! Funny cozy mysteries that make me smile every time. Annabel Chase gives us a flawed but good mom doing her best to care for her daughter, pets, family and friends. I hate that the sheriff's heart was broken but I'm looking forward to wonderful things for him in the future.
Totally enjoyed it! This is a well written and has well developed characters. The story is catching and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
