Ben Wolfe

Ben attended a federal service academy and served as an engineering cadet during the first Persian Gulf War. He studied creative writing under the American novelist, John Dufresne and obtained an MBA in Global Management in 2003. Ben has traveled extensively and has been to twenty-five countries on four continents, and traveled through thirty-five states in the US.

Book 1 of The Wraith Riders Trilogy of novellas
Curse of the Lianshi brought Francesca to the world in which she becomes known as the Lianshi. Escape of the Concubines sees the effects this has had on the world eight years later and provides a much better look at the world in which she has arrived. Whereas Tales of the Lianshi seems to be Francesca's story from her perspective, the Wraith Riders Trilogy looks to be written from the perspective of this world.

Escape of the Concubines by Ben Wolfe is a wonderful novel. The story is breathtaking and the fantasy world created by the author is fabulous. The only reason I'm putting 4 instead of 5 stars is that there were a loooot of characters and it was a bit hard for me to keep up with all. Honestly, I'd put 4.5 if it's not possible so.. Anyways, get the book, it is absolutely worth it!

Jumping straight in from the first page, the stakes are high as Artemis, a handmaiden, suffers a great loss and then faces many trials thereafter, all for the hope of freedom. There is bravery in the face of hardship and fierce battles, there are backstabbing betrayals, and there is political intrigue that will keep you guessing who is going to come out on top. The characters in this book made me feel ranges of emotion, from joy all the way to unsettled. There are a lot of rich descriptions, from breathtaking and lovely to downright grisly. The world was laid out in a way where I was easily able to keep up and learn about the different factions working against one another. And I always enjoy a nice dose of magic in my stories. I liked learning about how certain mystical or rare objects are crafted. There’s also a very helpful glossary at the back to help further the reader’s understanding of the world. A high-stakes story for those who enjoy epic fantasy!

🧝🏼♀️The plot: “Escape of the Concubines” is Book 1 of “Wraith Riders (Novella Trilogy) that belongs to World of the Lianshae Stories by Ben Wolfe. Georgina, the wife of the Vordoshan Konigar, and Artemis, her faithful handmaiden, try to escape from Vordosha as well as other wives and concubines of kings, and to find a shelter in Lianshi’s world. Margot, the Wraith Rider of Arkenheim is contracted to help them. Although the way to safety is going to be tough as enemies hide all and everywhere, trying to attack and take revenge. Whether poor women get the destination place safely and what dangers they face on their way, you can find out while reading an awesome novella “Escape of the Concubines” by Ben Wolfe.

🧝🏼♂️The characters: There many many many characters in this novella. All of them are perfectly structured and fabulously described. Moreover, there is a fantastic glossary at the end of the book that helps a reader to have a closer acquaintance with all the characters. Truth to be told I’ve already got my fave ones. I absolutely fell in love with charming Francesca (she was named Lianshi by the Dravin upon her arrival in the World of the Lianshae) and beautiful and brave Margot, the Wraith Rider of Arkenheim. I bet every reader will find his/her favorite characters, ‘cause they are depicted in a genius way!

🧝🏼♂️The writing style: The writing style of Ben Wolfe is breathtakingly awesome. This is a brilliant page-turner that make you dive into fantasy world easily. The map, at the beginning of the book, will definitely help you to survive while you’ll be wondering along mysterious Aelfen Woods and swimming in secret Lake Eriteba with characters created by Ben Wolfe. Captivating plot with lots of twists and horrible scenes will grab you from the first pages.
