Seven Lives to Kill

Rate this book
She's getting more than she bargained for...

Loretta Hamilton has never owned one cat, let alone seven. But when her eccentric Aunt Ginger passes away, she leaves Loretta her prized cat sanctuary. Her aunt's dying wish is that the seven remaining felines are allowed to live out the rest of their days in comfort on the little farm.

Recently widowed and ready for a change, Loretta relocates to the town of Saint Wales, Florida to honor her aunt's wishes thinking how hard can it be to look after a few cats.

Only, the neighbors aren't exactly hospitable and several have been trying to shut down the sanctuary for years. Worse, someone is out to sabotage the farm by any possible means putting the cats and Loretta in danger. Not only that, a close friend of her aunt's doesn't believe Aunt Ginger died of natural causes.

Can Loretta settle into her new role as cat mom and protector while fending off the cat haters and a possible murderer?

Cat rescue cozy

Loretta Hamilton inherited her aunt's farm and cat rescue,. She was leaning towards selling it, but after learning her aunt had been harassed, decided not to sell. After the woman doing the harassing turned up murdered, she investigated to clear her own name.

When I was reading the preview that Amazon provides for books, I signed up for the author's newsletter and got the prequel to this series, and it was really cute, so I decided to go ahead and get this book. I was definitely not disappointed in it. I highly recommend getting hold of the prequel through the Amazon preview feature and the link there. It's just a BookFunnel download and a newsletter you can unsub from if you decide not to keep it. (Not affiliated at all with this author, I just like what I read.)

The prequel book had Loretta's aunt Ginger in the hospital (not due to what she passed from though) which immediately paired Loretta with Ginger's best friend and sometimes kind of quirky, Greta. They were running Ginger's craft booth at the Valentine's Festival fundraiser. I liked Greta a lot in the prequel, and she got even better in this book! There were some characters in the prequel that followed on to the series, and some characters didn't. Loretta is a great main character too. She was a little older and after this adventure, she wanted to go back to school for her teen counselor license. Aunt Ginger highly encouraged her to do that.

Flash forward a little over a year later, and Loretta was back in Florida settling her aunt's estate, During that time, she managed to get herself and Greta and another new friend named Avis involved solving a murder. The person offed in this book was definitely someone meddlesome and a troublemaker, but Loretta still wanted to prove whether it was that person or someone else who had been threatening her aunt. When it continued, she realized the killer was probably the one behind all of it. The showdown was a good one. I'd briefly suspected the person who turned out to be the killer but wasn't completely sure. It was just another hunch coming true. The ending was so darn sweet, and now I'm very anxious for the next book!

I am not a cat person but K.M. Waller and these 7 cats sure won me over. If you haven't read the prequel, make sure you do to meet Aunt Ginger before she dies and leaves Loretta the cat sanctuary with 7 cats. You'll meet many of the characters for this books as well. Like Aunt Ginger before she died (or is this why she died) Loretta is being pressured to sell the farm and find new homes for the cats. But each cat has a unique personality and special needs so that's not as easy as it might sound. Loretta becomes fast friends with Greta, who was also Aunt Ginger's friend and keeper of all superstitions. What a wild fun duo Loretta and Greta make. Plenty of suspects in the real estate agent's murder and you'll be convinced each one did it. Link to fun special features at the end of the book. Really looking forward to the next adventure.

I LOVE cats so much and was excited to read about a cat sanctuary in Seven Lives to Kill by K.M. Waller.

Loretta's Aunt Ginger passed away leaving her a cat sanctuary. Loretta has pressure to sell the sanctuary and find homes for the cats, but she its not easy. The Real Estate Agent ends up murdered and there are plenty of suspects. Loretta finds a new bff in Aunt Ginger's friend Greta as they work to solve the crime.

The characters are fun and well written with loads of personality. The mystery is multi layered with twists that kept me guessing. I really LOVED this book and look forward to the next one in the series.

*** I suggest reading My Lucky Valentine & The Love Thief, which is a Prequel Novella to the series where you get to meet Aunt Ginger and the cast of characters***

Wonderful start of new series. Love animals, especially kitties, and rescues then this is a story for you. Even if not your thing, you still cannot afford to read this book.

There is so much going on. Will Loretta keep the sanctuary or will she sell to developers? Will people's past come back to cause problems? What is with the psychic need? What about Odie? Tractor? The others? Not to name what else is going on with other characters. Lots of rabbit trails to follow and get snared in. Be careful!!!

Fun, easy to read. A mystery for all to read. Easily read in a day. Looking forward to more. How soon for next one?

This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.

I enjoyed this book but it starts out slow but builds up and then gets going. Murder and blackmail plus all the shenanigans to get Aunt Ginger to sell her property may have helped her into an early grave. Now her niece, Loretta, will not rest until she figures out who was causing the shenanigans but also murdered the prime subject in those shenanigans plus this is all on top of taking care of the cats at the sanctuary. Loretta is not much of a cat person but she is there to make sure that the cats have a home but you need to read to see how Loretta and the cats get on. I even learned a trick to get cats to take medicine.
This is the first book in which I hope becomes a well established series.

I loved the characters in this book. I think Greta the sidekick was my favorite, she is hilarious with all of her superstitions. I really enjoyed getting to know Loretta and the rest, as they worked together to solve the mystery of who committed murder. This was a great start to what I hope is a new series as I really want to have more interaction with Loretta and the motley crew of cats, and Greta too. It would also be nice for Loretta to maybe find a love interest along the way. She needs someone to help keep her sane.

Loretta inherits a small farm from Aunt Ginger, who wants it turned into a cat rescue. A real estate agent wants the farm, but then ends up dead, so Loretta is at the top of the list of suspects. Greta, an old friend of the aunt, becomes a co-conspirator in the search for the murderer. The characters, main and secondary, were fantastic and the surprises along the way kept it entertaining. Even if you do not love cats, you will get hooked on this story and fall for these felines and those that deal with them.

Loretta has a big decision to make, sell the cat sanctuary or stay and run it. Greta, her aunt’s best friend, doesn’t want to see that happen. And Greta is big into psychics and astrology and gets a reading every day! She believes Loretta needs a reading to help her make the right choices.
This is a funny cozy. I love Greta and the cats have so much personality. I really like how Loretta is working to get the cats to like her.

Murder at the Cat Farm!

Loretta has just inherited her Aunt's farm and beginning Cat Sanctuary. Her idea is to make a quick sale of the property and the cats and return to her job and apartment. Her aunt's best friend and a volunteer try to make her see that the cats really need her and her staying is what her Aunt really wanted. Meanwhile she is pushed to sell the the whole kit and kaboodle to a group that wants to build a housing project. Then there is a murder. You gotta read to figure it out.

A good mystery, with cute cats!

A well-written book, captivating from the start! My favorite part were the cats and the way they wormed their way into Loretta’s heart. Loretta, who is very practical and not particularly fond of cats! I felt immediately pulled in, and the story kept me interested throughout. Good flow, good pacing, natural conversations, all good! Interesting characters. Interesting cats! And a clever case!

Kitties and a Cozy Murder Mystery
This story is the second in a series (the first being an introductory prequel novella) about a cat sanctuary in rural Florida. The story is a lot of fun. There are plenty of side characters to keep the series interesting for a long time. Having read the first two books, I can't wait for the next. I received this ARC book for free from Booksprout and this is my honest review.

What a fun murder mystery involving cats. Loretta and Greta's odd friendship makes for plenty of laughs. The story revolves around the murder of Loretta's aunt and the strange inheritance request that she leaves. Loretta with her grandma's friend Greta figure they better solve the murder, meanwhile Loretta learns how to take care of the cats and comes to love each and every one of them.

A delightful book. Can a non-cat lover take care of seven cats and learn to love them? That is the core of this story, but it also involves blackmail, murder and threats. How can Loretta cope with all that is going on and keep her sanity? Love the cat sanctuary mystery idea and hope there are more books to follow Loretta’s story.

This was such a refreshing read. Refreshing in the manner that there wasn't anything paranormal from the characters. The story was well written and the backstories of each character seems intriguing. This series is going to be a hit.

A Cat Sanctuary

K. M. Waller, wrote a fun and exciting book. Cat Prints on the Crime Scene had everything except a guy she develops a crush on. Maybe later she will have a guy to fall in love with. It's worth reading.

This is a cute story with some fairly interesting characters although fairly cookie cutter. This reads like a YA novel.
