I started reading "Secret of the Unicorn Queen" when I was around 12-years-old. These are the books that made me fall in love with scifi/Fantasy. Take a normal girl (Shelia), and drop her into a parallel universie with unicorns, a cute boy and an evil tyrant who must be defeated and you've got the makings of a great story. Plus Shelia, has her back-pack full of your basic normal school stuff but that "normal sutff" equates to life-saving magic in the Unicorn Queen's relm. These books are safe for girls of all ages and that's one of the reasons I love them so much.
I hate reviewing these books because I know that they are not good books, but I love them so much.
This installation of the Unicorn Queen books focuses on wrapping up the story in a way that really makes me feel like it was intended to be the last book in a trilogy, instead of the third book in a series of six. I mean, first there's the title, duh. Then . A lot happens in a very short amount of time (these books are sooooo short) and then everything ends very abruptly. I still remember feeling shell-shocked the first time I read this book as a kid (I was in a bowling alley, being the too-cool tween at my little sister's birthday party) and feeling very confused because there was still three books left and it felt like the story was all wound up and tied with a pretty bow.
Luckily, if I remember correctly, the next book was my favorite, so I am looking forward to moving on to that one. This book, however, was pretty much more of the same. Still super-campy, full of terrible dialogue, cheesy rescues, and (in my opinion) a pretty lackluster conclusion to the rebellion that has been stirring in the last three books. However, as always, my nostalgia and love of women characters in genre fiction won out and this book made me very happy.

My Review: I thought this third book was the most interesting so far, while it involved the unicorns still it branched out a little bit into Laric and his Eagle Warriors. I liked to see a little more of their involvement because they were just there to rescue the Unicorn Warriors when they got in a tight spot in previous books and didn't feel like they were treated as full characters. I also loved how Dr. Reit became a significant character as well. While this book would have made a great conclusion to a trilogy, the series continues on.
The Secrets of the Unicorn Queen were my favorites as I was growing up. Sheila is such fun girl to follow her adventures in the Kingdom of Arren. She is a normal teenage girl who happens to fall through a transporter in a parallel world. This third book in the series is a great read.
It so hard to get a hold of this series...it must be that good. I finally found a copy last year of the third book and just dying to know what is going to happen in the next three.
