Selene Constance is like no other hero she’s met before. Drawn to death like a moth to a flame, she is a reaper of souls who need to move on. She uses her gifts to help answer the unsolved murders of Seahill as a reporter while doing as her blood calls her to do—find the souls and take them to their afterlife.
At least, that was her reality.
Until him.
Jude Mallory, the ringleader of the infamous, spectacular circus of ghosts.
But there is more to Jude than the simple performer. He is the gatekeeper to holding the dead where they belong. Protecting mankind from an uprising of those they cannot see, just like his forefathers.
Together, they must find a killer who has been leaving a string of bodies at every show Jude performs.
But being together comes at a price.
Will they damn the world for a chance at love, or will they find a way to break the deal that has to be paid in blood?
It’s the heroes against the dead in a battle of love versus a curse.
But their time is running out, for, on October 31, Jude Mallory must die. **
Jessica Florence writes the stories that her fellow nerds yearn for.

Inspired by movies, music, and her personal life she writes like it’s the very air she breathes. Through her writing it’s evident that she lives for the stories she creates.
Jessica resides in North Carolina with her daughter, husband, and various animals. She loves to be outside, write in her hammock, and collect tea mugs.
I was given an advance readers copy of this book and have decided to write a voluntary honest review. I was really iffy about this book after reading the blurb. Once I started it I realized how wrong I was. This book is actually pretty funny in a ghostly kind of way lol. It also makes you really think about about the after life at least that's what it made me do. I loved Jude and Selene and someone else but not anymore lol.
When I signed up for an ARC, I didn't really know what to expect since this is such a different genre than what I'm used to reading and also it not being the first book in the series, I thought I would be a little bit lost.
Fear not, since it is my understanding that you don't need to have any prior knowledge to be able to enjoy each book as its own story, though if you're like me and after reading this one or any other then decide you want to get the entire series, I'd do it in order, just in case there's overlapping of events or timelines.
I'm so glad I still took the plunge... Jessica Florence's writing is beautiful, and descriptive without being tiresome; she gives us just enough information for us to be able to imagine this world she so masterfully created.
This storyline captured me since the first paragraph and since I don't consider it a spoiler whatsoever and I don't think the author would mind, let me leave it here: "I wanted to die. On the outside, I seemed like your normal angst-ridden eighteen-year-old, but on the inside, my soul screamed to end everything. Death called to me like a siren’s song. It rolled inside my veins, its very presence haunting my mind."
Selene's relationship with her reaper abilities is fascinating to witness due to the duality of emotions it evokes in her; the exhilaration of the proximity to death and the strength and struggle necessary to keep it at bay.
Jude's circus of ghosts is both beautiful and terrible sad, if we consider all the reasons behind the creation of the Mystical show - a goodbye. Heartbreaking yet heartwarming in the same measure. Until everything goes south. Since I don't do spoilers, let me just tell you this: I obviously expected some twist but I didn't necessarily see this particular one coming and I was so mad and sad at the same time. Way to warm the way into my heart and pull on its strings just to hurt me later. Congratulations Jessica Florence: you royally, officially tricked me. But such is life. :D
I definitely plan on reading the other books in the series at some point this year - I've been creating so many reading lists, let's just hope I'm not being to much of an overachiever.
I'm so curious and excited about the next book, and absolutely freaking loved the little sneak peek at the end of this. Also, some of the characters from the previous books really caught my eye, *cough* Asher *cough*... just to mentioned one of them.
So yes, I will be coming back to hangout with the ladies and gents of the Hero Society. Maybe I'll discover some superpowers of my own, who knows?
Fall is book 6 in the Hero Society series. It can be read as a standalone. I have only read the first two in the series and kind of gave up on the series but when I read the blurb for this one I really wanted to read it. I liked this one. It has a unique story line and I was hooked right from the beginning.
Selene is a reaper. She's drawn to death. She fought her powers but now has come to turns with them. Jude is a gatekeeper for the dead. He's a the ringleader of the infamous cirrus of ghosts. I really liked Jude. He has a curse to refill and he's days are numbered. Selene meets him at the circus. They are drawn to each other. These two have chemistry and I was so hoping for a happy ending. There are murders happening at the circus and Jude and Selene work together to solve them. I was guessing along while reading as to who was doing the murders.
Fall is another amazing Hero society book! I I’ve loved this series since the beginning. I’ve been so excited for Fall. Jude and Selene are just so perfect together. I love their deep, dark chemistry. This book is creepy and beautiful. I really enjoyed the whole haunted mansion vibe. The heroes verses the dead... what could go wrong?! You’ll have to read it to find out! If you like suspense, love, and spooktacular ghost stories, you won’t want to miss this one!
Love Jude and Selene so freaking much! Also, it was a delight to go back to this world and read a little bit more about the gang! I will be reading spring SOON!
Who would have thought Fall would be my new favorite. I swear I say this with each fo the new books in her series but this one, this one was special. ALL THE SWOON GUYS.
This book can be read as a complete standalone. but don't read every single book this girl has written. Please and thank you.
You never know what is coming with Jessica and her books.
This one was, well it was everything. Jude was everything. I swear I didn't think I could fall for a character more.
Dealing with ghosts can be a tricky business but you have no idea what you are getting into with this read. What you do know is that you wont be able to turn away once you start reading. This read is steamy and sexy and also filled with so much magic that your heart falls as your mind does.
Jude and Selene have a story that needs to be told and it is unlike any other story in this series. You see a little of the characters that we have come to love and you get to fall in love with brand new ones.
Fall is the first book I’ve read in the Hero Society series, and also my first book by Jessica Florence.
I love all things paranormal/fantasy but to be honest I had no idea, what to expect going into this book. But it’s safe to say, I absolutely loved it.
Selene was a reaper who helps souls, get to the after life and Jude had a magical circus, with a sad story behind it. The chemistry & attraction between them was intense, they were two people who deserved a happily ever after.
I’m definitely going to go check out the other books, in this series as I was really intrigued by their stories, and the powers they had.
Fall by Jessica Florence is an incredible read full of steam, spooky feels and a juicy story that you can sink your teeth into. Im in love with it. Jude and Selene set the book on fire with their chemistry, and i koved how the story set out. I also loved the ending and the plot twist... Shooketh.
This is the 6th book in the “Hero Society” and I think it would be ok to read as a stand alone. BUT you would not get the same effect I had after reading them ALL!! This is Selene and Jude’s story...
Ok so I didn’t realize going into this that this was a “ghost” book and I haven’t read many books with ghosts I enjoyed. But the buck stops here!! I loved this book!! It wasn’t cheesy or over the top. This fit right in with a “Hero Society” novel!!
I ate up these crew of characters. I had no clue who the bad guy was and the book kept me guessing.
This is the 6th book of the series and this author keeps putting out hits. This series of phenomenal!! I feel like each book is something new and interesting. Fantastic!
Jude and Selene are not like your average main characters. I love them and their story. The love connection was great and made me fall hard. But I think my favorite part is the story. The characters stories as well. His aunt probably my favorite.
I am once again awed by this author with this series. Can’t wait for the next one!!
**I received this book as an ARC and in return gave my honest review**
Selene Constance met death face to face as a teenager and after surviving she stared down her depression and continued to push forward. Now as an adult she works alongside the Hero Society using her gift as a Reaper to solve crimes and ferry wayward souls that only she can see into the afterlife. So when she attends a circus performance made up of entirely ghosts and one mysterious and grumpy ringleader her curiosities are piqued…especially when a woman is found murdered during the show.
Jude Mallory comes alive during the magic of his shows every night alongside his ghostly cast, but when the curtains fall he is as grumpy and brooding as them come. With good reason—he is destined to die on his thirtieth birthday just as every Mallory man before him has. Ever since his family was placed under a curse as penalty for his great-great grandfather refusing his duty as gatekeeper of Hades, he has counted down the days until the gates require his blood in payment. That is he was, until thirty days before his birthday when Selene walked into his life.
Determined to solve the mysterious murders plaguing Jude’s show, Selene finds herself drawn to him as she has been drawn to death her whole life, while Jude finds himself drawn to Selene and the desperate hope for a future he never allowed himself to dream of. The question is can fate be denied? And will they find a way to break the curse before Jude’s time runs out?
This book. Was so. Good!!!!! I’m sitting here a day later still thinking about it. The mystery, the intrigue, the tension, the forbidden romance, and the ill-fated love only served to enhance the amazing characters of Selene and Jude, the fun and hilarious companions of the Hero Society, and the mysterious and ancient ghosts with their hosts of secrets.
If you love murder mysteries, the Haunted Mansion ride at Disney, The Greatest Showman with a dark twist, and angsty romance, definitely pick up this perfectly bingeable read!! It left me swooning, screaming, and on the verge of crying somehow all at the same time, and yet I still finished it completely satisfied and wanting to dive back in and read it all over again.
I will definitely be reading the rest of the series now, however if this sounds like something you’d want to read (and trust me, it does) you can read any of the Hero Society books as stand alone novels. Just be warned, once you meet these characters you aren’t going to want to stop until you’ve read ALL their stories!!
I couldn’t help but finish this book with a smile on my face, i absolutely loved this book and the ending just made me so happy.
There is one thing that never fails with a Jessica Florence book is her imagination and her writing just makes it so easy for the story to be pictured in your mind, especially when we are dealing with ghosts and witches and characters that can turn into animals and boy does she do it well. Jude i loves straight away and felt for him he was stuck in the past and the present and if i could i would have jumped in the book to help him. I also loved Selene she just seemed lonely and she had a heart of gold.
I will admit i wasn’t sure about this story and dealing with ghosts but i have never doubted i absolutely loved Jude and Selene and they were such different characters from the other books. I do love that we got the previous characters in this story as well see what’s going on and basically helping solve the crimes like they do.
This book had it all it was magical, steamy an amazing story line and something so different to the normal love stories you need to get into this book and series love love love it.
I'm not usually a fan of paranormal but with the Hero Society, I make an exception.
If you have read the other books in this series you'll love it. However if you haven't read the others, you could probably read this, but you'll want to read the others to get the full impact & to learn about the others in the Society.
This book is a fair bit darker that the others, but that's somewhat expected when dealing with death & a reaper. It does touch on some sensitive topics & pretty much from the get go, such as suicide & mental health. But it's also full of hope, of living life to the fullest, of being ok, of love & a little magic.
I loved the dynamic between Jude & Selene & what drew them together is usually was scares most away. The Society is less prominent then the other books, but their cameos are welcome & are pivotal.
I loved this book & would definitely recommend it & all the others in this series. Can't wait for the next book!
I. Loved. Fall. It has got to be one of my FAVORITE Hero Society books. The story just kept building up and getting better and better. It was unpredictable and kept me on the edge of my seat!!!
Now, this wasn't classified as a horror book, buuut it had horror elements. As a horror buff, this was one of the many reasons why I loved it. While I was reading I kept thinking, "This NEEDS to be a movie!!!"
Selena and Jude had me feeling ALL the things. Here's only a couple of quotes to give you a taste...
“You make me want to live, Selene. Not just exist. Live.”
and this one...
"I wanted to soak her in, imprint her in my very DNA, so even in death she would be with me."
The only thing is, there was some moments at the end where some details were glossed over. I had to reread a couple of parts to make sure I understood what was going on.
I'm already excited for the next two Hero Society books!!!
This is book 6 in the Hero Society series and just became my favorite book in the series!
I love this storyline because each book has a different story and a new set of characters but still brings the characters we know and love back in to keep everything tied together.
This is such a unique story (and series) and I love that it has subtle references here and there to the Haunted Mansion in Disney. They are so subtle they are easy to miss and I would like to go back and read this again as I am sure I missed some of the clues.
The story in this kept me on edge and guessing the whole time. This was one of those - “one more chapter and then I’ll go to sleep” books. I did finally put it down but it was because I finished it! As soon as I started this book, I could not put it down.
Fall might be my absolute favorite of the Hero Society books! From the first page I was drawn into Jude & Selene's world and I couldn't put the book down. I loved that Jude & Selene had what seem like very dark powers, but they were able to do so much good with them! The idea of the ghost circus was genius! The mystery of the killer....WHOA! I was shocked with who it was, but what I really loved was that both Jude & Selene (and the other HS members) had to work together to break the curse! Fall is a bit more emotional than some of the other books in the series, but I loved that Jessica was able to draw me so completely into the book. And for all you Disney lovers, I think you'll absolutely love the subtle nod & inspiration from The Haunted Mansion!! Jessica has definitely created another amazing & beautiful book!
Fall is the second of 3 stand alone books that take place after the end of the Night, main series for the Hero Society. Again, each book revolves around a new couple, but there is no continuous storyline like the main series.
This book has such a Halloween vibe and I absolutely love it! Selene came into her gift at 16, but she tried to suppress it rather then embrace it. Learning from the mistakes of her past, she has taken steps to live a healthier life mentality, including using her gift of being a reaper.
Jude’s family is cursed, and his turn to make payment is coming on the next Halloween. His gift of control over the dead souls brings him together with Selene. Now they need to figure out what is going on with the dead of the world.
I loved this first stand alone book in the Hero Society series & I cannot wait to start the next one.
Just like every book in this series, I absolutely fell in love with these characters. Jessica Florence has a way of writing characters, even ones with super powers that are so relatable, you can imagine them being a friend. Selene spoke to me a great deal. Her battle with depression and fighting against it is so so many deal with, including myself. Jude is just as sad, excepting his solitary life and inevitable fate. These characters are so perfectly imperfect. I am usually not one for paranormal stories, but I have loved this series from book one. The stories flow so nicely and even though the characters all posses some sort of unnatural power, they are written so well, you simply Fall in love with them.
For my first read of 2020, I stepped outside my comfort zone and read a genre that I normally shy away from. I knew that Fall was part of the Hero Society series going in, I wasn't prepared for the fact that I would enjoy a paranormal romance so much.
Jessica Florence does an amazing job at bringing the characters of the Hero Society to life. While I have not read the previous books, the appearance of previous characters gave me enough insight that I never felt lost while reading. Selene and Jude's story reaches in a touches your heart all while reminding you how precious life is and to live and not just exist.
Thank you Jessica Florence for giving me the opportunity to read and review Hero Society - Fall, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
Ugh why isn’t there an option for more than 5 stars 🌟 I loved everything about this book. I don’t want to give anything away when it comes to this story cause I feel the magic of Jessica Florence books is just reading it not knowing what amazingness you are about to read. Jude and Selene are just utter greatness. I love Jessica’s story telling ability, the fact that she can mix in some heavy with paranormal and romance. She’s amazing and I highly recommend this and anything this woman writes ❤️
Just like every other Jessica Florence book, I could not stop once I started. I always have to finish, no matter how much sleep I lose. I love these characters. Jude is just, I can't even describe! He just works his way into your heart and throughout this story, I wanted to help him and hug him, that is the wonder of a J-Flo story. Her characters are so real, you can imagine them so vividly! Selene, she seemed sad and lonely and I just couldn't help but love her. I love that throughout this series that we get to revisit some of our favorite characters from past books and we also get new ones to Fall in love with. If you have not read this series, I don't know what you are waiting for?? The only thing you have to lose is some sleep when you can't put the book down!!
I have to admit that The Hero Society has been my only super hero series Ive ever read and its my favorite and Selene and Judes story is by far my fave .Their chemistry was off the charts . Loved it. I mean you can conquer the world or the dead for love and love will always win the end. Must Read #ARC
This series. WOW! I loved it and Fall might just be my absolute favorite out of all of them. This book had all the things I love all in one. It's so different in the best of ways. Ghosts and a magical circus YES PLEASE!! Although this book can be read stand alone, I HIGHLY recommend reading the rest of this series! Definitely a must read! I will forever one click anything by Jessica Florence.
I absolutely love the way Jessica writes and incorporates real life struggles into these heros. I fall in love with this world with each book in the Hero Society world. The circus theme was beautiful imagery, and Selena and Jude's romances intertwined with death was a perfect story for me.
Another fast, fun story in the Hero Society world! Yes, fun, even tho the story does deal with some heavy subjects. I love Jude & Selene & the way their story plays out. Enjoyed seeing the Heroes come together to help save the world again, too. 😁💙
I’m gonna have to reread this one! I just loved it. I have loved the series but this one is just more. I think the dark nature of their powers and the resignation to their fates made it a more powerful story. The way their powers mingled with death made this story’s hot scenes the hottest of the series. I couldn’t put it down and it just grabbed me from the first few pages. So good!
Whew. This is my first Jessica Florence book. I know. Strange place to come in. But I’m not even mad.
This book gave me everything. The secret society, the paranormal, the romance, a mystery, just everything.
I was at Mystical, from the time we dived in, until the end. Because honestly, how cool would this show be?
Selene and Jude are dealing with their abilities, the best possible way they can. For Selene, it’s helping the Hero Society. For Jude, it’s counting down until he can break the curse on his family.
Neither one is looking for the other, and that’s what makes this beautiful. In a short time, they find their meaning in one another, but not without a good bit of ghostly interference.
Can they stop the curse? Find the murderer? Fall in love? You’ll see.....
Definitely recommend. I’m off to check out the rest. 😉
This book was all things gnarly and insane. Wow. Mind. Blown. I love all the Hero Society books in Jflo series but this one here, MY FAVORITE. I mean, ghosts, a circus, a ringleader, a reaper, a haunted mansion, a curse?... um yes, please!
Well done, Jessica Florence, well done. 5 ‘Prepare for Mystical’ stars!
Fall Everyone battle some form of insanity. I’ve found the best thing you can do while feeling like you’re stuck in the mud is make mud angels. ~ This one was so insanely fun. It was my first dip into the author’s stories, so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I loved the idea of a superhero society, and of course had to start with the spooky season one. This was so delightful. It was whimsical, it was romantic, it was a little bit of high stakes at points, and I would definitely recommend to start off your spooky season reads! I will definitely be picking up more from this author!
