The world has been destroyed, and Batman is on a quest to find out who’s responsible. But when villains from his past begin to complicate things for the Dark Knight, he finds an unlikely ally in a place known as “the Plains of Solitude.”
Scott Snyder is the Eisner and Harvey Award winning writer on DC Comics Batman, Swamp Thing, and his original series for Vertigo, American Vampire. He is also the author of the short story collection, Voodoo Heart, published by the Dial Press in 2006. The paperback version was published in the summer of 2007.
If you've been reading Scott Snyder's batman since the first court of owls then by all means continue. That's what I'm doing. But if your a Batman fan that hasn't read Snyder's batman in a while, don't start now. This is garbage. Not quite as bad as his all-star batman, and not as horrible as metal was. Because metal was the biggest piece of shit ever flushed through dc comics. But it's still bad and I highly recommend you don't look at this book, let alone read it. Though I will admit it was still better than book 1. He'd have to be doing it on purpose to write a book that was worse than book one though. That's some real trashy shit right there.
Mixed feelings for this one. It has its moments, but its also felt a bit long at some points. The evolution was intriguing but also felt a bit stretch. Always one good for one bad. I was expecting it to be better!
I think I liked this more than Book One. There's some cool nods to some of Snyders other DC work and more familiar DC characters. Though I'm both curious and ready to roll my eyes at the reveal of Omega in Book Three.
Lot's of talking, which I don't usually like (especially in a Snyder comic), but this series has kept me interested, to say the least. And you can never go wrong with Snyder's writing and Capullo's art together!
I am loving this. It's twisty and turny and sad and still oddly hopeful. Lex going crazy, trying to bring a baby Superman in, trying to right his very wrong, Joker's monologues...
The only thing I have to say is that Omega better not be Jason Todd. I am so sick of writers making Jason evil.
A+ DG entrance. I hope Damian is with him.
The art continues to be awesome. Bearded not!Clark and Dick are stunning. Also Bane and Scarecrow are downright terrifying (mostly Scarecrow, but the weird use of Bane as behicle is a nice touch).
From the moment you crack the cover to the very last page, if you’re a Bat-fan, you’ll likely experience what I have: an overwhelming sense that THIS book is something truly special. What Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo are doing with this story... and what DC is doing with their Black Label line... awesome in the purest sense of the word.
"What had happened here? The same thing that'd happened everywhere else. We'd revealed ourselves. And it was a horror show. So we flew on.
Jar Joker and Batman on a cross country trip, seeing the devastation that has engulfed the world, trying to make sense of it.
Superman clones, a Lex Luthor trying to bring Superman back over and over again though wormholes, Batman crossing the River of Dead and seeing Alfred and lastly... Dick Grayson being the head of The Court Of Owls?
Snyder calling on everything he's ever thrown in a book. What a mad lad.

Good artwork, ok but slow story and a bit obvious when it comes to the reveal at the end. Batman is trudging around trying to make sense of this new world, trying to fing old allies but just finding the worst of humanity. I found the last case story more intriguing then the main arc. I hope things are brought together in the end.
Wow, very disappointing. The first issue seemed to be strong start to an interesting dystopian take on the Batman mythos. In this issue however, things just seem to happen with no logical reason. The artwork is interesting but the writing seems disjointed and story falls flat due to lack of immersion.
This was not bad, but I've definitely read better from Snyder and Capullo. I did like seeing Bats and the Joker team up and the fact that Joker is the narrator. However, there was too much of a discrepancy in terms of narrative voice of the narrator and Joker as a character in the book, in my opinion.

Despite the decent artwork and the fancy speech bubbles, the story for this whole arc is just too crazy to follow. It feels like an excuse to include everyone from the DC Universe somewhere, and doesn't seem to have much point... Anyway, I shall persevere with the last part. 3.25/5
Boom the whole world is built and this has gotten super epic. But wait, there is more. The Villains? The Court of Owls? The Bat-fam? Very excited for the conclusion!
