Graves swallow the dead, keep their secrets, and conceal unsolved murders.
This pulse-pounding suspense begins at the Wine Valley Cemetery at night, where pagans meet to celebrate the Autumn equinox and a high school senior dares his friends to open his family’s century-old crypt. As the high priestess enters a smoky trance, the others encounter the ghost of a teenage girl and a freaky accident that leaves the high priest dead.
Det. Max King and Dr. Joy Burton discover a ritual knife plunged into the high priest’s chest. They also find signs of foul play on the hundred-thirty year old corpse of Mercy Summerfield. Mercy’s living relative is in a hurry to rebury her body and seal her back in the crypt.
Meanwhile, Max and Joy peacefully accept their mysterious past—no record exists of their early years before two different men adopted them. They put down the shovel and stop digging, but ghosts from the past whisper clues that tempt them to pick up the shovel and dig deeper.
Should their secrets remain dead and buried? Or will they rise from the grave to haunt them?

Hi, readers! I love to create stories with pithy dialogue, gritty action, mind-blowing plots and unique characters: flawed, passionate, and sometimes disturbed.
I'm a USA Today and Amazon #1 Bestselling author. I completed the Humanities Honors Program at U.C. Irvine and earned my MFA in Creative Writing and MA in English from Chapman University. Wine Valley Mystery series is for adults—Noir Crime/Traditional Detective. The boxed set hit #1 Best Seller on Amazon upon release. The prequels of light and cheery Detective Max King, dark and disturbed Dr. Joy Burton, and tough-guy, Officer Reed Steele are FREE.
My debut novel, Unveiling, a stand-alone, takes place in the colorful deserts of Saudi Arabia as well as America. It won Honorable Mention from the Writer's Digest SP book awards. Evil Speaks, first book in the Warriors and Watchers Saga Series, a middle grade fantasy, was Finalist (4th place) in the Reader's Favorite 5-star awards (that's out of all of the 5-star books in that category for the year).

Outstanding novel! I loved the creativity and the inspiration of the circus theme it was wonderful. The mystery kept me enthralled the entire way, it wasn't one of those that you could solve in the first few pages which I loved. I want my mysteries to surprise me and this one certainly did. I definitely didn't suspect the ultimate villain but when I went back could see the handwriting on the wall but it was so craftily delivered it was missed. I loved the two main characters of this watching them grown and change brings them to life as a one off novel might not have been able too. Definitely a favorite from now on.
They are young, the ritual draws them, they want to join a club. The task to see a corpse, it’s a family crypt they won’t be any problem. The one guy wants to be a doctor, so excitement filled the air. The altar they had created, now brought death for one of them. Detective Max King, came, the youth saying they were pagans no animal sacrifice, a human did.die. During the ritual a knife was held at the chest of each, so fingerprints of all, or was it the obsolete that tumbled. A crypt uncover lead to an old case of a forbidden love and arsenic was use. An interesting case as they uncovered secrets.
This is one book full of mysteries to solve, old and new! The 120 or so year old sarcophagus is opened to reveal a woman’s corpse that was possibly poisoned. A strange pagan rite is noticed in an old cemetery where an obelisk falls and kills somebody - but is it an accident or murder? Detective Max and Dr. Joy have their work cut out for them with this set of mysteries! This is really an excellent series and it seems like I enjoy each one more than the last!
Max and Joy have two murders on their hands this time. One new, and one a century old. Can they solve them both? Prejudice will make some people do terrible things. Sadly, this is still true today.
I had to have a bit of a chuckle at Steele's question to Max regarding his legs after he dismounted from Marshmallow. Steele had never been on a horse before. It ended the story on a happier note.
This is an entertaining and well written story. Clever characters, plenty of suspense and humor. A bit of spicy romance, but not too explicit. Good stuff!
