Step into meditation with ease

Oliver Kent PhD is an author and teacher who passionately believes that there's no good reason to make another's life harder and that it's usually less painful to learn from someone else's mistakes. As such he's currently in the process of sharing his (often hard-won) experience through writing books that help make life a little easier. He also dances. A lot. He has published many books on the Tango as well as books Healing your Relationship with God, Finding Hope: Searching for Happiness, and two books of Buddhist quotations with accompanying reflections. Now he adds to his repertoire this very useful BEGINNERS GUIDE TO MEDITATION.

Using much the same technique he uses in drawing his readers onto the dance floor to embrace the tango, Oliver makes the approach to incorporating meditation into our lives as a source of enrichment and inner peace. His manner of guidance is at all times supportive and warmly related, making that step into peace and away from chaos one that resonates. The book is brief, with steps toward committing to the meditation realm easily mastered, even for those who may have been avoiding the concept ‘because there just isn’t enough time for such tasks.’ Sound familiar? With Oliver’s compassionate approach the fret over ‘time’ and ‘tasks’ meld into the pleasure and comfort of learning that art too many avoid. Relax, and welcome the new level of living that meditation offers.

This is yet another of Oliver Kent’s many gifts to our well being and happiness. He is a strong support system, a treasured leader, and a fine teacher and guide. Highly recommended

I’ve read several books from Dr. Kent’s library and I particularly enjoyed his breakdown of meditation. Before reading this book, my knowledge on the subject was limited. This is a great guide for anyone looking to relax their mind, reduce stress, and adopt a more positive outlook.

My favorite thing about “Beginners Guide to Meditation” is the chapter organization. Too many books like this jump into the subject without building the proper foundation. Dr. Kent offers alternative methods and examples so the reader can choose a routine to best suit them.

Personally, I find it difficult to turn my mind off at night. This specific problem is mentioned in the first chapter. As I continued through the guide, I discovered “listening” to be my method of choice. I especially love the sound of thunderstorms. By the end of the book, I am left with a guide to relax my mind and drift off to sleep by a reasonable hour.

If you’re looking for a way to destress, don’t be fooled by preconceptions about meditation and check out this book.
