I first read this work in manhua format about seven years ago. One night, it suddenly crossed my mind again, and I reread the manhua. Then I got carried away and dove into the novel as well. I felt exactly the same way I did seven years ago. Nothing more, nothing less. My throat tightened and my eyes welled up with tears again as I read.
It felt so realistic that every character was suffering in their own way. Because that's life. Things never go perfectly right. We always expect something bad to happen as soon as something good occurs, and this story perfectly reflected the truth of that expectation.
It was no coincidence that Zhishu developed cancer while in such a relationship to be honest. My heart broke when Zhishu, even after Jiang cheated on him, didn't give up hope and called Jiang the moment he left the hospital. It was an incredibly heartbreaking scene for me because some things just hit too close to home.
It was beautiful to see how the relationship between Dr. Ai and Zhishu evolved from a patient-doctor dynamic into a purer, platonic, and innocent, enviable dimension. Ai's refusal to get intimate with Zhishu as his condition worsened, his refusal to touch him when he was in such an unhealthy state (especially when the only love of his life offered it) was deeply meaningful. (We all need a Dr. Ai in our lives :3 )
At first, the man Jiang cheated on Zhishu with struck me as very unsympathetic. I even secretly wished for his death. But as the story progressed and I faced the reality that he too was just a victim of Jiang, and witnessed his death, I suddenly developed a sympathy for him. Just like Zhishu, he deserved something better.
As for Jiang, although he wore me down throughout the story and made life hell for every man he was with, the man he became shortly before and after Zhishu's death earned my respect. For some reason, I couldn't bring myself to hate a single character by the end of the story. Of course, there were characters I felt very differently about while reading, but in the end, I gained some understanding for everyone.
I recently heard that there will be a drama adaptation of this magnificent work. I hope it's true. Even if it doesn't come out, that's perfectly fine. Because I can't abandon this work, nor can it abandon me, as I feel.
这本漫画好浪漫,可是现在,看完了以后,心里很难过。。。 贺知书最后的句子。。。5555。画风也挺漂亮。开始读的时候,其实觉得我不会喜欢这漫画,可是10章节以后很有趣。请读一下T^T Chinese isn't my first language lol, Chinglish is, sorry. Tl: this manga was so romantic, but right now after I read it my heart hurts so much / I'm so sad... He Zhishu's last words... waah. The art style was alsl really pretty, though. Actually, at the beginning I thought I wasn't going to like it, but after 10 chapters it got really interesting, so please read it T^T
Spoilers: I feel like it could've resolved better, but at least it was realistic. The Dr Ai, what a bb, I respect him so much, he never got angry at Zhishu when he knew he still loved his bf/ex... and in the end he still loved him. The ending just hits really hard. I'm just glad they were able to be happy in the end, even though Ai says he'll never find love again...
Me encantó, aunque realmente me quedé con ganas de leer más. Siento que no tuve el tiempo suficiente para meterme de lleno en la historia, aún así, estuvo genial y ese final me desgarró el corazón; pero estaré bien.
