Rate this book
The Matchmaker’s Curse says if the mutant accepts the match, then his fated mate must die. If he doesn’t accept it, then he must die…

No one has yet survived the curse.

~

The threat coming for Selena Irving has been stalking her family for years, ruining her parents’ lives and pushing her onto the warrior’s path. She’s the only female yet to qualify for the elite dark ops unit in the Army called the Red Team, and while that shielded her for a little while, the nightmare’s begun again. Now she’s caught the eye of an alpha male with super powers—her definition of trouble. Sexy-as-hell Bastion loves easily, laughs often, and cooks like a master chef. He’s also the only man to see through her defenses to the person she used to be…the woman she might have become had her past been different.

Bastion, changed against his will into a mutant warrior, is on a mission to find those responsible for stealing his life, intent on stopping their plans to unravel humanity. He wasn’t looking for a mate, but he bonds with Selena the first time he sees her, activating a curse neither of them can escape. His only chance to break it is to ruthlessly burrow into her secrets, forcing her to face her hidden scars, helping her heal before the danger headed her way can use her past to take her down—and everyone she loves with her.

"Elaine Levine is a wonderfully fresh and original voice in western romance.
RACHEL AND THE HIRED GUN is full of fast-paced action and powerful emotions. I loved it!"
-- Joan Johnston, New York Times bestselling author of A STRANGER'S GAME

"A pair of appealing, well-matched protagonists (with a bit of a history), a slimy villain, well-drawn secondary characters, and plenty of action make this rough-and-ready Western one that fans are sure to enjoy."
--Library Journal on AUDREY AND THE MAVERICK

"A beautiful romance…keeps the reader hooked from the first page to the last.” -New York Times Bestselling Author Catherine Anderson about LEAH AND THE BOUNTY HUNTER

Though this is the third book of a romance trilogy, the story stands quite well on its own. Elaine Levine gives us a multi-level story about trust and being able to overcome personal fears to achieve a goal. Set in the post-Civil War era, Leah and the Bounty Hunter gives us a window into the rough-and-tumble lives of our settler-forefathers and what they did to succeed against lawlessness and the incredible challenges to settle the old West. An enjoyable read, recommended. --Monica E. Spence, Historical Novels Review on LEAH AND THE BOUNTY HUNTER

ABOUT ELAINE:

Elaine Levine is an agoraphobic who lives in her son’s basement and runs doggie daycare for his pack of hounds. Her mind, however, is irrepressible, and she fills the endless moments of endless days crafting romance fiction from dystopian headlines she reads online. Be warned—her stories are addictive and dangerously appealing to those with similarly twisted minds and hopeful hearts.

It feels like I have been waiting forever for Selena to get her story and now it is finally here!
Ok for anyone who is a fan of the Legion and Red Team series you are going to want to read this book - Do yourself a favour and pick it up, set aside a weekend and turn off your phone. You won't regret it

Now anyone who wants to know what the book is about read the synopsis above... I would strongly recommend that you read the series in order however it's not strictly necessary as I will explain momentarily. Anyone who doesn't want any direct or indirect spoilers now is the time to stop reading as I give my honest feedback about the story -

Yes now stop reading because of spoilers

Ok so first of all let me begin by saying that it has been a while since I have delved into this world, since the release of Liege to be exact, and I have read many stories since then so while I had the basics of the story in mind many of the details have been forgotten more or less... When I started the story two days ago I was slightly frustrated. I could remember characters names and some of the associations but I could tell that many small details that were being included were going over my head. This lead to a connundrum... Should I reread some or all of the stories so I could get back into the story?? This was going to be a significant time commitment because of the amount of books involved and like most of us, as much as I prefer escaping into fiction on a regular basis their are unfortunately 'real life' events that require attention ... As I was stuck in this delemna the genius of this author came through! By backing up the story to include the last two if not three books from the Red Team series, depicting them from Bastion and Selena's POV, not only do you start to remember more and more from before but you gain insights that were missing from these characters in the process. It doesn't take long before everything you need to know has been gone over again so you are back with the team and trying to figure out the best moves going forward. And moving forward it does - while Liege book is an amazing introduction to mutants and their abilities, Bastion and Selena's story moves the entire plot along in a big way, literally opening up the world to the worst case scenario and what is sure to be a very dramatic conclusion when the time is right. We start to see how completely outmatched our heroes are and realize that their are some big decisions to be made sooner rather then later. All this leads to a very dramatic read, where the sky's the limit for possibilities, all featured by a loving, loyal and sometimes humorous family group.

Ok so all that being said here are a couple of small critics and observations
#1 Hawk - I'm just gonna say this now but I really want Hawk to have an amazing HEA when the time is right. This poor boy has been through so much crap and he is fighting so hard to be a decent human being, even fighting some of his own urges to do so, that he deserves something really special.
#2 Acier - ok I know your website indicates that the Legion series is only going to be four books but I hope that is open to negotiation or a spinoff. Knowing that Merc and Guerrre are getting a story I hope that Acier is last, not because he is going to be a casualty but because he was trained at a different camp so we are going to have this world explode internationally and their are lots more books to come - maybe even generationally???
#3 Ending - ok unfortunately I have this complaint a lot ... I'm not sure if it's because I don't want the book to end or because it has to leave an opening for the next book in the series but that ending was a little abrupt... First Selena is mind warped into leaving the house, then she learns how to manipulate her nightmare to turn the tide on the villain and then she suddenly gets cut to shreds and Bastion is energy blocked into believing she is dead.... That's a lot to happen and wrap your head around in so few pages... Of course changing her in the end made complete sense but I wish we could have gone through a little more of that... What makes it so hard physically? When her powers will start to manifest? How she will be different/ the same as the other mutants ect How does Flynn and by extension the OWO react to her survival and the recent going ons at the house? I know it ended up being a long book but an expanded epilogue for your fans would be most welcome :)

In conclusion thank you for another brilliant extension into this world. Can't wait to see what trouble awaits Merc in South America as he tracts down Santos.

I am submitting this as an honest review in return for having received a free advance reader copy

Elaine Levine has become such a world builder. What began in the Red Team slowly has become an epic adventure that continues to pull me in and leave me wanting more. The sinister Omni World Order is still making its presence known as the depths of their twisted world-view are becoming more well known and out in public. There is so much we don't know, but we can see the sinister threads of their evil in many ways. The Red Team has done a great job of handling much of the threat but with the release of their DNA altered packs everything has turned up several levels. Now, the only way to fight the battles against OWO is by using the enhanced beings of Legion.

We met their leader Liege in the previous book, he's a leader and his story was fast-paced and intriguing as this new series was started as an offshoot of the Red Team. I was eager to begin this series as a fan of Elaine's storytelling and because I was invested in the characters. When you read an ongoing series where the stories are intertwined and you have walked adventures, crises, and mountain-top romance with people you need to know "what happens next". And Liege let us be introduced into his cell of fighters: Bastion, Acier, Guerre, and Merc. We understand their change into who they are altered things for them, and their stories would shed light on where they came from but how they would overcome some of the alterations. However, their greatest strength is they can fight and beat what the OWO throws at them. They are the last defense.

In this book, the Red Team fully intertwines with Legion when Bastion and Selena (from the Red Team) come together. So. MUCH. Romance. There is so much to their story that to try to describe it would spoil it and not do it justice. Some of the sweetest interludes that literally bring tears to the eyes happen in this book. I am wondering if perhaps these altered humans have lost so much that when the feeling and emotions hit them they hit super hard and they embrace it more than a "regular" would because it means so much more to them. Either way Bastion has notched romantic lead up to a pretty high place. I've always had a fondness for fantasy/sci-fi and this totally marries these genres and Bastion is quite the hero. I sincerely hope we will get more of his charming dialogue, wit, and snark in upcoming books. Plus I feel his and Selena's story is nowhere near finished with all that happened in this book. There is still so much to explore.

I highly recommend this book, but I would suggest reading The Red Team series first for all the situation and world-building that takes place.

"Bastion" is the 2nd installment (Book 2) of the 0-Men: Liege's Legion series and I dare say the most anticipated book to many of us Red Team readers. In this book we have Selena, a warrior in her own right from the Red Team series and Bastion, a mutant. Having failed with Liege and Summer (Book 1), the Matchmaker is at it again casting his Curse. It is a Death/Death situation unless our 2 lovers can find a way to beat the odds.

Bastion is picked up almost immediately where Liege left us, Elaine Levine's magic did not disappoint us as she delivered another page-turner, putting blockades upon blockades, at times you can't see how anything make sense but when the plot finally unravels, you're left with a satisfying read but wanting for more. At times the Legion vs Red Team seemed a tad too tense for me but thank goodness for Val (from Red Team series) for providing us with a much needed humour, his comedic timing is the best and I guess that's why Val has always been my favourite from the Red Team series. Please don't hate me but at times I couldn't stand Owen (the leader from Red Team), I do understand where he's coming from but I feel like screaming at him to stop being such a hardass!

I love that Ms Levine waited this long to give Selena her better half because Bastion is absolutely perfect for her. I did find their coming together a tad too slow for me, I wanted the wheels to move faster. When Selena's backstory was revealed, my heart broke for her. What happened to Selena could be a trigger for some readers, so I hoped there's a warning about it somewhere in the blurb. She refused to give in but Bastion finally managed to get through to her. He handled her with such sensitivity and understanding. He knows when to push and when to stop. My favourite is the poem that he wrote, I had to stop as I was crying buckets. I could feel his yearning and his promise to her through that poem, it was just so beautiful.

This story is not without its flaws. I find that the ending is too rushed and abrupt. I like to see the progression of Selena's changed, the struggles that she had to go through and Bastion's reaction throughout the process. I would love to know the reaction of Selena and Bastion's teams of the outcome of what happened to Selena. What happened to Hawk? I feel that it was left hanging.

All in all, I enjoyed this story and I highly recommend this to everyone.

This is the 2nd story in the Leige’s Legion series. This is Bastion and Selena’s story.
Bastion is a modified mutant and Selena is a regular human. Their interactions and their emotions are so palpable in this story. I might have gotten misty a few times.
I don’t normally read paranormal or even sort of paranormal books. It’s just not my thing, but this author did an awesome job where you NEED to know what’s going to happen next.
I wanted this book since we met Bastion in the Red Sam series!!

Go get this book!!! I’d give it 50 stars if Amazon would have it as a choice!!

I found this one to be better than the last book, mostly because we had a lot of familiar characters as the Red Team was brought in and filled in on the new threat with the Omni's.

I was so so on the romance between Selena and Bastion, not sure why, but it was a bit blah for me. The one thing that I did like about the two of them was how Bastion was there for Selena every time she had to face a fear, whether in the past or the present. He helped heal her in so many ways.

What kept me interested was how the Red Team reacted to learn about Bastion and his crew. Here they thought they were the big dogs, but come to find out they are itty bitty puppys, tough for all of them to take. As they learned more, saw more you can tell how everyone is coming to terms and how I'm betting most of them will opt to be altered. Either way it will be interesting to keep reading and see what happens.

Bastion is book 2 in the O-Men: Liege’s Legion. This is a science fiction series that is a departure from Elaine’s normal work, but is so well done, I love it!

This is Bastion and Selena’s story. Their story begins in The Red Team Series, but you do not need to have read it prior to this story. Elaine did an amazing job bringing all of their previous scenes into this book. And OMG what a story it is!!!

This series brings us the “mutants” created by the Omni World Order. Through nanotechnology these men have become super soldiers with heightened senses, metaphysical and psionic abilities. She does a fascinating job explaining their extra human abilities. Changed against their will, they have formed a group of warriors whose goal is to save humanity. In their world is the myth of the Matchmaker.

“The Matchmaker's Curse says if the mutant accepts the match, then his fated mate must die. If he doesn't accept it, then he must die...
No one has yet survived the curse.”

These warriors soon find out it’s no myth at all.

Bastion is one hot, sexy Frenchman! He is sent to spy on the Red Team to find out if they are fighting for or against the OWO. Here is where he meets his mate, Selena. Her journey began years ago when a tragic event from her past leads her to become a tough kick ass warrior. Underneath this warrior’s skin is a lonely soul who yearns for the love all of her other teammates have found. When these two finally meet in person, Selena is not happy with Bastion for spying on her team. While Bastion could be funny but a little obnoxious, he is soon winning Selena over with his sensitive romantic heart. However, their nemesis Brett Flynn is back and has set his sights on Selena and the Red Team. Can the team learn to fight this changing OWO and still remain the same? Will Selena and Bastion find a way to break the Matchmaker’s curse?

4.5⭐

This is the second story in the O-Men: Liege's Legion series, and whilst I haven't read the first it didn't affect my enjoyment mostly because I've been desperate to read more about Bastion since his brief appearances in the later Red Team stories and I was excited to finally explore his strange connection to Selina.

And whilst I didn't, to start really get what or who the legion are it wasn't hard to figure out and the story itself was very intriguing. Plus, I enjoyed it much more than I expected, considering there is a big element of the paranormal and that's not something I usually read.

But the mix of paranormal, suspense, action and romance was really excellent. And I liked the fact sensitive topics were broached and broached both delicately and with respect. And I can honestly say there were moments when I got a little teary eyed.

Not to mention I was easily engaged throughout and I'll certainly be going back and reading Liege's story. Furthermore, I would happily recommend this book to others. As it really was an interesting and enjoyable read. And I'm so glad I took a chance on a genre that I would normally avoid.

I have to be honest here, the first half of the book bored me to tears. Usually it takes me couple of days to finish a book, however I just could not get into this one. I loved that we got to see the character from Elaine Levine's Red Team series, but I found that the romance between Bastion and Selena was extremely slow burn for majority of the plot and then out of nowhere it did a complete 180. One moment Selena wasn't trusting Bastion's intentions and was even half convinced that he raped her while he was in his astral body, and the next she left the safe house because he has been hurt and she needed to make sure he was okay. It was a bit unbelievable to me to be honest.
I did like the second half of the book, the action picked up a lot and that is the reason why this is getting three stars from me and not less. I do hope though that the red team will not take the modifications. I like them just the way they are.

I have to say I’m in love with Bastion! I really enjoyed this second book n the O-Men Series. Bastion, the crazy French mutant, get a visit from the Matchmaker and his soulmate is the kick a$§ warrior Selena. Bastion is spying on the house and group Selena is involved with. He had to work really hard to get his woman because she has mega baggage. Plus Flynn is still out there sending his monsters out trying to kill the O-Men. There is lots of blood and fight, the pesky Matchmaker Curse, two teams fighting tone Omni consider forming an alliance, lots of kids and family and some hot steamy moments.

This is the story of the romance between a mutant warrior, Bastion and a regular, Selena. Can they break the Matchmaker curse?

I loved this story. Bastion and Selena are great characters with hot chemistry. The storyline has humour, sarcasm, action, secrets, and romance. I am looking forward to the next story in the series.

“I want a lover. Not just any lover. One strong enough to stand next to me, to let me be me. I’m not good at following.” From the time Selena was first introduced in the Red Team Series, I’ve wondered what her counterpart would be like. He would have to be strong, able to dominate and yet at the same time, be able to submit to her strength. Bastion lived up to all of my expectations. He is the perfect balance for her.
It was refreshing to see so much of the Red Team characters in this book also. Once again, questions were answered and more were asked. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Bastion, was well worth the wait. It provided action, romance and suspense. I could not put this book down although it’s a long book, it felt too short..Loved that the red team were involved as I have missed reading about them. Good to finally find out more about Selena and how her past has shaped her present. Loved Bastion, I could hear his sexy French accent in his interaction with Selena. Thank you Elaine for keeping me engaged.

Wow I am stunned after reading this emotional, intriguing and absolutely brilliant story. From start to finish each page drew me in to this stunning read and I cannot emphasis enough how brilliant it is.

Bastion and Selena’s connection is incredible. You feel all the suspense, drama and tension as Bastion strives to keep her safe from Flynn’s clutches. How will it end?

You must read it. I really truly loved it.

This book is very complicated. I have been waiting for Selena’s story for a long time. The Red Team Series is one of my favorites. I dare say you almost need to read all of those first to understand Selena and Bastion. Selena has some huge past issues to overcome. Bastion is the perfect match for her strong will and personality.

really enjoyed this second installment of the series. It has its share of conflict, of misunderstandings, of sacrifice, of humor and of course, of love. It would help if you have read the Red Team series first, but really this book stands on its own as well. But meeting “old friends” again written from a different point of view brings new insight and appreciation for characters that I’d fallen in love with previously.

Every emotion under the sun

Seriously this woman can stir up a frenzy of emotions. I laughed, cried and bit my nails. As a Red Team Series reader I was so excited about Selena's story and I was not disappointed. The tie in was incredible and enjoyable. Bastion is a great character all the new Legion characters will be wonderful. This book answered so many questions and made me think of a bazillion more. I loved it and can't wait for more. Acier the weapons man is who I want to meet next... Just have to wait for the next book. Thanks Elaine!

Selina finally get her guy!

I have been waiting for a long time to see how Selina and Bastian’s story would play out. I was not disappointed! I love that Selina gets the guy and remains a strong warrior on the red team.
There was a lot of new “stuff” happening with the collaboration of the Legion and the Red Team. If you have not previously read any of the Red Team stories (you are missing out and should do so ASAP) all the players mentioned and interacting with each other could get confusing, but it does not take away from the overall story.

I am excited to see how the members of the Legion evolve and find their partners and of course, I would love to see more interaction between them and the red team!!!

Bastion has met his heart and she is a fighter for the human Red team. Selena is everything that Bastion has prayed for. So he watches the compound that there on and comes to Selena in her dreams seducing and loving her. Until the time comes when they must meet because these brave fighters are facing an evil that Selena has a strong past with. And because she fought him and she is the only female that has ever escaped is evil intention he has a score to settle with her. Will Bastion’s love be strong enough to save his love or will he lose her just when he’s found her.

Bastion and Selena’s story was worth waiting for ! I was intrigued but a little worried that the O-Men series wouldn’t live up to the Red Team series , but it most certainly has. While the Legion characters are still kind of a mystery, Elaine still includes and expands the characters from the Red Team to just deepen the drama and the struggles they’ve gone thru. I really love the entire storyline and hope Elaine never runs out of ideas to continue it ! I’m only sorry I finished Bastion in a day and have to wait on the next book !!! Totally loved it !

Simply a "cannot put it down" book. Excellent in every way!

I love reading a book that pulls me from my life, my location, my companions and transports me I to the story. Bastion and Elaine Kevin's story telling ability did that for me.

A man changed unaware becomes a mustang of sorts but still has a man's desires, heart, honor and ability to love...but only with the right companion and the right woman. Enter the Matchmaker and Selena.

Part fairly tale, part action packed excitement; it's all perfection!

Well, Elain Levine has done it again! The second in the O-Man books is about Selina and Bastion. Selina was an important character in the red team books and finally has her own story, and it was certainly worth waiting for. If you like fast-paced stories with a bit of paranormal and a lot of action I would highly recommend the O-Men series.

This is book two in the O-Men: Liege’s Legion and is Bastion and Sabrina’s story. Sabrina was first introduced in the Red Team Series. She was the only member that remained unattached when the series concluded. Bastion was also introduced in the Red Team series. I have been patiently waiting for their story for what feels like forever. I love, love, loved their story. Thanks again for another fabulous book. You don’t need to read the Red Team novels to read the O-Men series, but I recommend them because they’re wonderful books. They will also give you some background info on what’s going on. This book had a lot more Red Team interaction then Leige’s book did. I can’t wait for the next book in the series to come out.

Sabrina is in Wyoming and part of the elite Red Team, actually she is the only female on the team. Bastion is a member of Leige’s Legion. They are enhanced mutant experiments who have made it their mission to protect regular people and stop the Omni’s from experimenting on more people. They’re looking for the scientists involved with these experiments and believe that the Red Team in Wyoming know where a pair of them are, so they send Bastian there to spy on the team. While he’s watching over them, he’s to find out if the Red Team is sympathetic to the Omni’s, protected by them ore fighting against them. He discovers Sabrina is his light, his other half. He can’t reveal himself since he’s there to watch the team, but he does start meeting Sabrina but taking away most of the memory of those meetings. Sabrina thinks she’s going crazy and that Bastion is using her to get to her team. Sabrina fights their connect believing that they don’t really have a future together.

How exciting, my very own review copy of Bastion woohoo! What a treat and an absolute joy to read.
From the first sentence I was gripped and taken on the unforgettable journey that Elaine the master storyteller weaves, in every, single, book.
Bastion, the invisible man, his mark, the untouchable Selina.
I now remember why I had to binge read the red-team books, all of them in a week or two, because I wanted to be totally immersed in their world. That is how I know I’ve found a gem of an author, one who tempts me to lose myself in her story.
Elaine has a way with words, throughout this latest stunning second book in the O-Men, she makes you feel like you are there, living the adventure with the characters. Descriptions of landscapes, the red team mansion and the fort that Bastion calls home, the beautiful poem from Bastion to help ease his lights heartache and without giving anything away, the beautiful words at the end of the book, you will cry tears of joy and be left wishing you did not read the book so fast.
So many emotions, sadness, joy, a book that I couldn’t put down and would read over and over again.
Thank you for your latest gift Elaine, please don’t ever stop writing, you opened up so many avenues for new books with the characters in this latest book so I hope we don’t have to wait too long for the next instalment.
Now I may just need to read it again!
