Another excellent book by Colin Falconer. This is a story of love and betrayal and takes place in the ‘60s, during the Kennedy administration. The author paints a very realistic picture of the life of a Cuban refugee in this country. Most of them left Cuba with only the clothes on their backs. Family is very important. The main character is willing to do anything to support and care for her sick father. She follows her dream to become an actress and rubs shoulders with many famous people, but is ultimately caught in the fallout from a terrible tragedy and is forced to flee. I love the author’s writing style. His writing seems so realistic and I almost feel like the story is unfolding right before my eyes. I recommend this book and will be reading the next book in the Naked series, Naked in Saigon.

This is an excellent 2nd book in Colin Falconer's "Naked" series. I started it yesterday afternoon and couldn't put it down until I finished at 4am this morning! I will definitely read the 3rd book.

Lost me real close to the begging due to the language. Not for Grandma's trying to stop cussing. This makes most of the people I know look like saints. Not that the Mob didn't have the filthiest mouths around. At least that's how they are normally portrayed, by the media, anyway.

This quick-moving story follows the fortunes of Magdalena, a Cuban refugee in Miami working as a waitress to provide for her sickly father, both yearning to return to their opulent life before Castro. Two men from her past both reappear in Miami, one offering her a new lease on life while the other reminds her of what she has lost. Moving to Los Angeles after her father’s death, she becomes involved with Hollywood and the Kennedys, being drawn ever more deeply into political plots that threaten both her and the President’s life. Her relationships with the two Cuban men become increasingly complex and intertwined. With suspense and lots of action, this is an entertaining romp spiced with wry humor and engaging characters. The end leaves you suspended as the story continues in the next book in Saigon.
