This book is doable. The menus aren’t too difficult. I did have to go to the gourmet grocery store to get the specialty items: sunflower butter, hemp seeds, etc. It’s mostly a high protein, low carb diet but It worked fine.

You need a month or more of special meals. I didn't plan for that. Have to buys list of foods to eat while eliminating. Have to buy another list of food to reintroduce. Costly, but helpful way to figure food issues.

this book was a whole lot to take in. It will take multiple reads to get the whole thing. Allergies are very serious, and food allergies can be fatal.

Tara, author, was diagnosed with IBS a few years ago so knows the hurt, defeat and frustration of trying to determine food triggers. Do you know the difference between a food allergy versus a food sensitivity/intolerance? All will be explained in this book.

Wow! The 'foods to eat' list is WAY WAY shorter than the 'foods to avoid' list so be prepared! A 14 day meal plan is provided for you along with all the recipes. IMPORTANT to keep a food journal of what you eat, symptoms if applicable, along with any changes. (A sample page is included.) Reintroduction of different foods is very plainly explained, telling you what to add to each meal and giving you several menu/meal options.

I fully get the reasoning behind an elimination diet and if you are someone that needs to do this you will find this VERY encouraging. Tara has done a great job in providing a wide variety of recipes so that even if you are going without some of your favorite, not good for you foods, you can still create and eat tasty meals. HOWEVER I am very disappointed to see canola oil as the only oil used in many of the recipes and the only fat listed in the 'foods to eat' list. Canola oil is an inflammatory and much of it is VERY highly processed and deodorized to prevent the consumer knowing it has gone rancid. Is there nothing else available that is healthier in the elimination phase?

Know what a flax egg is? You will find out on Page 85. A wonderful Allergy-Free Broth recipe is given on Page 96 and you will use this frequently in the recipes. Sheet Pan Chicken Breasts with Garlicky Greens? Yummy! Top of the page says that it serves four but the instructions say to divide between two plates. Judging by the ingredient quantities I would think this recipe is for two people. Fancy some Mango-Banana Nice Cream after that?

At the end you will find the Dirty Dozen and Clean 15 lists along with measurement conversions. The 75 recipes are for the 14 days elimination plan so plenty of variety to choose from. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher. Thanks, Liz

Having been diagnosed with IBS over 20 years ago, and having tried repeatedly to find out exactly what the best eating style was for me, I was very happy to receive a copy of Tara Rochford’s book The 14-Day Elimination Diet Plan from Callisto Media/Rockridge Press in exchange for my honest review.

I can’t count the number of times I have tried to cut out one thing or another, and recently I had resolved to find a good guide to REALLY do it. Voila! This book is GREAT for that. It provides a two-week plan, and then a step-by-step guide to reintroducing possibly problematic foods as well as some hints for knowing how to recognize food sensitivities (not the same as allergies). Each of the most common food sensitivities (wheat or gluten, dairy, etc.) has a somewhat different way it manifests in the body, and can affect health in different ways.

Once sensitivities are identified, it is important to learn how to reintroduce foods (one at a time!) back into a meal plan. There’s a guide for that, plus the “Dirty Dozen” and the “Clean 15” foods, measurement conversions, and 75 recipes.

Personally, a huge help for me was when I learned about FODMAPs, and Tara Rochford’s blog has some excellent information on this (as well as many other topics). Five stars *****

I think this is very interesting. I think the initial hard part is doing it. I was hoping for more clear symptom in regards to something in particular. Because I feel a lot of the symptoms of different allergies were the same. It just feels a lot of work. And it might work for some people. I found what works for me that helped cleared acne and itchy scalp. So its worth taking a read on.

I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
