It’s the most wonderful time of the year in Penmenna…

Teaching assistant Alice has sworn off men, which is fine because with Christmas coming she’s super busy organising the school Nativity. This should be a blast with the help of best friend and village vicar, Dan – if she can just ignore those more-than-just-a-friend feelings she’s developed for him…

Dan is more than happy to help Alice – his secret crush – but not only is his beloved Granny Annie about to be made homeless, the church choir has disintegrated and he’s battling some dark demons from his past.

With meddling grannies and PTA wars thrown in the mix, can Alice and Dan overcome their past hurts to move forward? Will they be spending Christmas together as friends… or something more?

A festive feel-good romance perfect for fans of Tilly Tennant and Holly Martin.

With thanks to Netgalley and Canelo for this ARC in exchange for an open and honest review.

Christmas Wishes is the fourth book in The Cornish Village School series. I have read all four and they are definitely on a par with Gervase Phinn`s books. The Cornish Village School centres on the staff and children at Penmenna School.

Teaching Assistant Alice Pentire and local vicar Dan are best friends. Alice has a massive crush on Dan, Dan feels the same but is scared to tell her be cause he is still dealing with tragedy from his past.

All that changes when Annie, Dan`s young at heart gran comes to live at the vicarage. Annie likes Alice and decides to do a little matchmaking with the help of her new friend Ethel.

Meanwhile Alice is given the job of organising the class four nativity play. However that job is made more difficult when a new mum true to try dethrone Marion Markshot, godzilla of the PTA.

This was another heart warming read from Kitty Wilson. I love the reoccurring characters in each book such as Rosie, Pippa and Marion Markshot. It feels like relaxing with good friends.

I liked Dan`s sense of humour, he was very un-vicar like. When Dan revealed his story to Alice it was heartbreaking. I loved his gran Annie and her matchmaking skills, I had to laugh when straight laced Ethel`s secret was revealed.

Marion Markshot is a fantastic character, the way she punished her rival was brilliant. I don't want to give anything away but there is a big surprise at the end of this book. I can't wait to see what Penmenna School do in book five.

I recommend this fun christmassy read.

How sweet are Dan and Alice and how clearly made for each other are they? Apart from the fact they don't realise they each have a crush on each other, and Dan especially is hiding things from his past that are affecting his decisions about future relationships.

This is the book where we discover whether Dan and Alice finally move their friendship to the next level. But in between all of that, we also get to see a hidden side to many of the other residents of Penmerra, such as Ethel, and beneath the surface of Marion.

I loved Alice's approach to the school's nativity, in giving the power and responsibility to the children, with very little adult interference. It was a lovely process to see and I couldn't help but smile at the overall show. Alice is also determined to make sure there is a choir still in place for the Christingle service, which was a really touching moment too.

It was so much fun to be back amongst this school in Cornwall, catching up with characters from the previous books, although this can easily be read as a standalone, Everything about this setting, the characters, the writing just speaks to me and its a series, and book that I was am thoroughly enjoying.

One of those small touches that kept me amused throughout where all the different things that Alice called Dan's cat, Dave, who I have to say is not the most adorable of cats.

Cornwall and Christmas just seem to go hand in hand, and this was no exception, another wonderfully relaxing and enjoyable story in this series, that I hope never ends.

Thank you to Canelo on Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

I enjoyed this Christmas story a lot. So many fun quirky characters. Just the kind of book I like to read over the holidays.

This was a book I knew I was going to enjoy from its first few pages – the writing style is simply lovely, light and engaging, a well-drawn setting, the dialogue perfectly captured, the humour elements absolutely spot-on (and sometimes a delightful surprise), the characters just perfect in every way. I loved Alice straight away, and really enjoyed the twists and turns of her friendship (and might there be more?) with village vicar Dan: both characters have more depth than I ever expected, there’s a wonderful edge of attraction (even a touch of lust!), and I so hoped for a happy ending for them both.

We’re back in the world of the nativity play for this one – last year’s was a bit of an avant-garde disaster with dippy Harmony at the helm, and Alice and Dan take it down a more traditional route, while handing over the production reins to the children. Every child is so perfectly drawn, their interactions extremely funny – and I had a particularly soft spot for the main producer with his obvious aspirations to be the next James Cameron.

The school setting also introduces the shenanigans of the PTA, and the challenge to the authority of Queen Bee Marion Marksharp, the tornado with teeth – what wonderful characters, their interactions a peace-keeping challenge for Alice, and I loved every single moment. Putting together a choir for the Christingle service opens up a whole range of opportunities for misunderstandings too – and the conclusion to that thread really touched my heart.

And then there are the octogenarians – the unexpected secrets of Ethel’s basement, the introduction of Dan’s quite magnificent Granny Annie, and the way they work together to try to bring Dan and Alice rather closer. And I really must mention Dan’s psycho killer cat Dave, a great character in his own right – and Alice’s quest to find him a more suitable name was a recurring note I really enjoyed.

While the story’s quite complete in itself – immensely satisfying, gloriously Christmassy, and an absolute joy to read – the only part of the story that lost me a little was the closing scenes, that pick up on some of the characters from the earlier books, and bring their stories to conclusion. But it only made me rather sorry that I hadn’t read the whole series, so I’d have understood what led up to that point. While I’d love to say I’ll go back and read the whole series, I sadly just can’t – but I’ll certainly be very much looking forward to whatever the author does next. A really lovely read, and I enjoyed it very much indeed.

Alice is a teaching assistant in Penmenna village school and this year she's given the job of organising the class four nativity play. Determined to make it the best one, or at least better than the one from last year with the earth giving birth, she loops her best friend Dan, who is a village vicar, to help her. Actually, Alice would love to be more than friends with Dan, however she's so unsure of herself, she can't see why any man would be interested in her, and there were some bad experienced for her in the past and Dan, well, Dan has some reasons as well to hide his feelings.

One of the biggest strength of the book are for sure the characters. The cast is simply brilliant, living and breathing, with flaws and troubles. Dan was a perfect vicar, so very un - vicar like, which only made him even better. His background was really heart - breaking and you could really understand all his commitment issues. But Marion Markshot must have been the best character ever, oh my god, so fierce and so vulnerable, I loved her and her ways, and I really wouldn't like to have her as a fiend. And really, you can say whatever you want, that she was cruel, self - obsessed, whatever, but oh my, I so fell for her! Because no matter what, the characters felt human and true to life, finding themselves in a position of having to go on, to get on with things, just like we are. And Alice, the lovely, kind and full of energy Alice, so unsure of herself, not realising how great she is - she was a fantastic leading character.

What I also adored is that the series centres around school and teaching. And even though I'm now working in kindergarten and not at school, once a teacher, always a teacher and I like stories set at school, especially such lovely ones. I loved Alice around her pupils and I loved her approach to the organization of the Nativity Christmas Play, she's truly the right person in the right place, her love to her job shines through the pages.

I adored this book, I really did, but what annoyed me a bit was the fact that you actually knew, from the very beginning, how it's going to end (I know, I know, everybody hates this sentence) and it simply felt too long, no matter how entertaining, to come to the final conclusion. I mean, there were almost no obstacles, no challenges and the will they/will they/oh yes they will was too long. It just felt, I don't know, too wordy, as if it has lost its track from time to time.

But altogether, it was a hilariously funny and also wise and heart - warming read with incredibly vivid and lively characters with intelligent and sharp sense of humour. I have only read the third instalment in the series before - sadly, it's a huge mistake, really, because the books are so, so entertaining! "Christmas Wishes" is full of mishaps, family, friendship and love, beautifully balancing humour with poignant scenes. The banter, and there is a lot of banter in this book, is humorous, witty, sharp and quick and there is a huge amount of lovely romance, of letting go of the past and moving forward, and it is already filled with festive spirit. Hugely recommended!

Such a warm hearted read

Gorgeous and relaxing, I loved this book.
Alice Pentire had a ginormous crush on the local vicar in Penmenna Dan Daniels, now they were both at the local village school talking about the nativity play and getting everyone involved, it's the most wonderful time of the year.
Such a feel good book. his Nan Annie Bolton moves into the vicarage and Alice learns more about Dan from Annie, she thinks they are both compatible and made for each other, it's going to take a lot of work for them both to feel the same especially Dan.
Oh this is one delightful book that is such full of sparkle and humour from the characters and the animals with all the festivities all in full flow. Reader's are well and truly going to get such a warm feeling while reading this book I highly recommend it's put on the top of your Christmas reads.

A nice Christmas themed story and when taken as being a completely predictable romance, is a nice book to read.

The book had a few typos and I felt a couple of the characters and how they spoke was forced, but overall creates a lovely festive mood.

I have so enjoyed this series and sad this will be the last but one book in the series but it certainly didn't disappoint me at all such a fantastic read from the first page and didn't want it to end. Full of romance, letting go of the past to move forward and plenty to do with Christmas and children. It's a heartwarming read and has great characters and just a brilliant read and we'll worth more than five stars.
Alice is the class room assistant at the local school and is totally off men after bad experiences and she's keeping herself busy by organising the school nativity with the children. She asks Dan the local vicar to help her organise it but she realises she is starting to get feelings for him and doesn't want to be hurt again but Dan also has feelings for her but is keeping it a secret as he can't let go of his past and move forward in order to be happy. But when they are planning the nativity they share a kiss and he says something afterwards saying he can't settle down yet he's not ready but he won't open up to the real reason. His nan comes to live with him and she is set on get Dan a wife and she knows he likes Alice so she tries to get them closer. He finally opens up to his nan why he can't settle down and gives him wise words and can he hear this and forget his worries and move forward or has he left it to late with Alice. She also holds a secret that she has planed for the Christmas Eve service how will he react will it being them closer together or not.
Perfect book to curl up and read

A wonderful fourth addition to this fabulous series! A brand new story encompassing all the original characters too . . .

Teaching assistant Alice is very much a main player in Penmenna village school; so much so that this year she finds herself in charge of the nativity, and she is determined to make it the best one ever. Alice has a close friend in Dan, the new vicar and, much as she would like to be more than friends, she has sworn off the opposite sex and is so conscious of not being sylph-like that she cannot see why any male would look at her twice. Little does she know that Dan is quashing his own reciprocal feelings!

From the very beginning, this series has had winner stamped all over it; a gorgeous setting with a fantastic cast, each with their own idiosyncracies. There is a perfect balance of characters, stretching right across the human race and - as is the case for all of us - finding themselves in the position of having to get on with things - and each other. I love the new fun characters which have been introduced in this one and, as always, there is so much going on throughout the book that I just seemed to fly through it! The magic of Christmas shines through the pages, and I loved everything about this one - it's an amazing addition to a superb series and Kitty Wilson has done a first-class job. A joy to read and fully deserving of every one of the five shiny stars I'm more than happy to give it. Highly recommended!

I read the other books in this is series but this is my favorite so far.
It's lovely, engrossing and entertaining, full of Christmas spirit and it made me crave for Christmas time.
I loved Alice and Dan, rooted for them, and I liked to read about the other characters. All of them are fleshed out and relatable.
The setting is lovely as usual, the plot and the cosy atmosphere made this book heartwarming and enjoyable.
I look forward to reading other instalment in this series.
Highly recommended!
Many thanks to Canelo and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

The best of the four book series. Heart warming and funny with a cast of well known and loveable characters but also some new faces. Fourth in the series but also can be read as a stand alone book. Highly enjoyable with a fair tug of the heartstrings included. Alice and Dan are a joy throughout.

Thank you Netgalley

Another fantastic return to the Cornish village of Penmenna, this series gets better and better.

We do get to catch up with a lot of the locals again, and if you've read the previous three books they will all be very familiar to you, but this book centres mainly on teaching assistant Alice Pentire and her close friend and village vicar Dan Daniels.

Alice, by her own admission has sworn off men, which at this time of year is no bad thing, it's almost Christmas and she has the school nativity to organise, but it's going to be an absolute blast, as she will have Dan on hand to help, one small problem though, Alice has a huge crush on the extremely good looking vicar.

Dan is more than happy to help Alice, but he has more than a few things going on, beloved Granny Annie is about to loose her home, the church choir numbers are woefully low, and he is battling the demons from his past.

It doesn't help that he has - yep you guessed it - a huge crush on Alice.

Will the two of them manage to move forward and spend Christmas together as friends, or something more ?

This is such a warm and feel good festive read ( I'm not going to apologise for reading Christmas books at the beginning of October I can read them at any point in the year, especially if they're part of a series ) if you haven't read this or any of this series before, give them a look at I'm certain you will love them too

It's Alice's turn to do the nativity play at the Penmenna village school, and after last year's disaster it can only be good, especially with the help of Dan the gorgeous vicar....... if only Alice could stop thinking of him as more than a friend! Dan has the problem of his beloved grandmother being made homeless just before Christmas and so he moves her into the vicarage...... if only she would stop trying to interfere in his love life!

Another lovely story in this series and great to be back in Penmenna catching up with characters from the previous stories. A lightheated warm book that draws you in and leaves you with a happy feeling, perfect for curling up and reading in one session

This was a book in a series that I hadn’t read but it didn’t matter. The author did a great job giving you what you needed to enjoy this sweet holiday installment. There is lots of Christmas cheer throughout the book, the school getting ready for the live nativity scene and the church’s Christmas service.

I especially liked the two main characters Dan and Alice. My only quibble is the author chose two names totally similar for his cat (Dan) and his grandmother (Annie). Help a reader out why don’t you.

Dan is a handsome vicar (picturing Grantchester) and Alice is a school teacher full of kindness and giving. It makes for a wonderfully lovely story where you root for them the entire time.

I picked up 3 books in The Cornish Village School series by Kitty Wilson. This is Christmas Wishes and this book follows the story of Alice and Dan. A really enjoyable read featuring the lovely Cornish town of Penmenna, great characters and a good story. This is probably my favourite book so far, as I do love a good Christmas book. this has just the right amount of Christmas details and cheesiness to make me happy. This is such a lovely series of rom com books. I've really enjoyed reading them all.
