Bible – Can We Trust It?

Rate this book
It was the first book to ever be printed. It remains one of the most popular of all time, with whole societies of people professing to live their lives according to its pages – but can the Bible actually be trusted? Does it have any substance or is it just some nice ideas? Isn’t it full of contradictions, and can it really have anything to say in the 21st century? The fourth title of the First Steps series by 9Marks explores these questions and more, showing that the Bible is not only still relevant, it is powerful!

The contents of this book were good. It presented a biblical worldview foundation for where we got the Bible, why we can/should trust it and how it fits together as a whole to tell the redemption story that points to our salvation in Jesus. I thought the title of the book was a tad misleading. I was expecting a book that is more apologetic in nature concerning the reliability of the contents of the Bible. Although there are definitely elements of apologetics in it, I thought it is better understood as a book that presents a concise, coherent view of the Christian view of the Bible and its origins for those developing a biblical worldview. For those seeking to delve deep into the reliability of the Scriptures, I would suggest another book.

I read through half of this while preparing for an Old Testament Survey sermon as part of a "Can we Trust the Bible" series. This book takes a very plain and simple approach to the various questions that might come up as to the Bible's reliability. This would be good for a beginning student, or someone training to instruct novices.

Good introduction to the doctrine of the Bible. We are using this in our equipping/training classes at church. I see this as a resource to put in the hands of people who are reading the Bible with friends who have questions about the validity of the Scriptures.

Great resource for young or new believers who may be curious about how we have gotten our modern day Bible and to wrestle with the foundations of why we can trust it. This book works well for interaction with someone who you are helping to disciple.
