Hiwot Emishaw is the author of three books. This one is the third of her books. Her first two books ባርቾ and ፍቅፋቂ received rave reviews among readers. A social critique and a masterful storyteller, Hiwot enjoys thousands of followers on her Facebook page where she shares some of her stories periodically. This book is a collection of 24 short stories.
It is a beautifully written short stories book. It is a reflection to our daily life and the characters are nothing far from what we know from the reality. We cry with their torments, which Hiwot wrote to us in a manner that peel and cut to our core. We congratulate their triumphs. We want to nudge and wake them up from their self denial for there are characters like the married woman who heard the news of her lover getting married and the story is of her letter to him. Her agony is both whimsical and saddening. The characters are a cliche of terms for there are characters like the mother who wallows in the depths of poverty that took back the corn cob from her son. We don't know whether to get mad or cry when these characters meet and greet us to become part of our lives through the pages. Even though it is an easy read, the seriousness of the topics read makes it an amazing food for thought. Enjoy reading.
Great story-telling! The stories are short and easy reads but that belies the depth of issues and emotions involved in each story. The stories are not a one time read, as far as I am concerned. They should be revisited once in a while.
