Young and naïve, Shanae settles for the bare minimum from the only man who's ever shown her any affection. Losing herself in him, she vowed that the last time was indeed the last time. Too many chances had been given, and the respect she had for him was slowly dwindling. Pleading for a sign from God, he provides Shanae one that rocks her to her core, leading her into the powerful arms of her childhood crush, Levi.
Kali, a mother of one, is simply fed up. Getting pregnant at twenty-one was never in her plans, and neither was having to deal with an emotionally unstable baby daddy for the rest of her life. In a perfect world, she envisioned them under one roof, raising their son to be a king. The reality of that happening is slim to none. Over the single life, Kali pursues a relationship with her a classmate Rondo, not realizing the struggles that lied ahead while satisfying her desires.
After a break up that causes Layla to question every man's intentions, her promiscuity heightens. She stopped longing to be accepted and became selfish with her time, placing her needs above all. With the thoughts of being abandoned again, Layla swore off relationships. That is until her smooth-talking neighbor Brody breaks that barrier she built between them. Somewhat interested in why he'd pursue her, Layla falls hard with no restraints, unleashing years of pain while doing so.
Sometimes in life, the people we love the most hurt and betray us in ways we'd never imagine. Shanae, Kali, and Layla know that all too well. To the woman who has given her unwavering devotion to a man… a man who should've never had the privilege to even get close to you, this book is for you. You deserve more. More than what he's giving you. More than what you're allowing yourself to receive. Reclaim your time and your heart. And remember, that man is your ex for a reason…there's no need to double back.

I loved loved loved this book! I like how all 3 women were going through different things, but all were experiencing heartbreak and making strong decisions to overcome it. There were soooooo many gems dropped throughout this book that if you aint going through something right now you wish you had these gems in those times where you were going through it. And those new men in their lives!!??!!!??!! Baaaabbyyyyyy..........A good read for sure.
I enjoyed this read, Kali was my absolute favorite!! I coulda read about her and Rondo the whole book. I loved that she got away from Erik and stayed gone! Her and Rondo were everything together. Although I couldn't stand him most of the book I can respect that Erik chose to seek help to better himself for his son! Layla I'm on the fence about, although I agree the thing Liam did was stupid and he got just what he was asking for! BUT she put a little too much blame on him because idc how faithful she was up until that point, if she truly wanted Liam nothing would have made her do what she did with his homie!.also the situation with her mom didn't even have to go as far as it did if she would have simply listened to her one time! I did like her and Brody though. I can't lie, if what happened to Isaiah didn't happen she probably would still be following behind him like a fool. I did like her and Levi! Wish I coulda gotten more on Kross!!
The main female characters in this story went thru some rough times at the hands of their ex-boyfriends. I felt bad for Shenae for she could not rid herself of Isaiah until he was truly gone. Kali's life was in danger dealing with Erick and Layla had every right to be upset with Liam. It was good they were able to meet positive and supportive mates. I was also glad Layla was able to hear the truth from Tatum. Good ending and standalone
This was a great book. It touched on so many parts of my life especially right now. I can relate to all 3 characters but Shanae is my current situation. I’m taking all advice and everything that was said in this book to heart to help me. Thank you BriAnn Denae I am your newest fan and will be reading your books from now on! Thank you again this book is a lifesaver!! My name is Kiauna I’m in my bff’s account! Lol
“Things only happen in life for a reason, and people who aren’t meant to be in your life only last for some seasons. Most come to teach you a lesson and once their assignment is done, so is the relationship. Most people never experience love. Only broken fragments of what it should be.” - excerpt from “He’s Your Ex For A Reason”
I enjoyed reading this book! It was nice having others perspectives and following the three women’s stories. I fell in love with Levi and Brody as book boyfriends. Rondo is cool too. All men are special in their own way, but I have a special love for Shanae’s and Levi’s chemistry the most. 😩🤎
We all have exes that either we still hung up on or trying to move on from or wondering what the lesson was. This book showed that sometimes you gotta deal with the ugly frogs 🐸 to get your ideal prince 🤴🏾. I recommend this read to those who want a feel good book that makes you hopeful for a bae 📖
Tropes found in the book: friends to lovers, childhood friends to lovers, neighbors to lovers, classmates to lovers,
TW: sexual abuse, domestic violence, language, for mature audiences 🌹

So many points that’s being hit in this book, I just wanna hug these characters. Mental health is serious, so glad this author touched bases on it. Erik whew he was crazy had me checking under my bed & closet for real lmao! Kali definitely was strong and mature .Crazily Layla story stuck out the most to me. Her just channeling her inner self and having a moment😂😭😂. But also looking for closure within her self of the abandonment feel. Love a man in a Uniform 😉 Chileeee let’s not start with Shanae and Isiah . Boy was she naive and forging but that was me at one point too. Its hard to walk away from who your comfortable with. It’s okay tho cause yall gotta read about Levi . So where’s a real life Brody, Levi and Rondo? And can we learn on Kross? Bro need love too. Great read!
As always, BriAnn Danae manages to bring a story together and bring out many emotions from the reader as well. This book was a little different from her other books, but it delivered an awesome message as well. I liked the way that she brought a little insight on the subject of being bipolar. Each lady had to go through many obstacles, but they each got their knights in shining armor in the end. Great job BriAnn!
Great storyline, my favorite was with Layla and Tatum meeting truly touching. All the women had a different life style and lesson learned. Congratulations this book was awesome!
This book had my husband mad at me because I could not stop turning pages. I loved the story line and how the characters developed. This was my first book by you but won’t be the last.
This made me so happy... With the lost of the Leo Sullivan presents authors and royalty production along with a couple others I was stressed..although some were able to re-release some of their works they're still are a great amount who can't recover. That made me sad for the black American urban romance and fiction culture..for a minute I logged on my kindle to only see books that wasn't of interest to me on my book suggestions. I thought they took away all the KU black American books. I didn't know what happened. All my faves were gone... Most still are, but here I found a jewel. This is my 7th read from this author and after binge reading I have Another author to add to my list. I felt the pain, the hurt, the anger of these characters on such a relatable level. I cried the happy tears and mother the sad ones. I have the a five because it was well deserved. To be able to pen a story with so much emotion, I'm almost sure that Miss BriAnn was crying and feeling the emotions while writing it. Being a poet myself I could sure appreciate the art and How the author captured the emotions and passion behind each word spoken. It was genuine and I almost forgot I decreasing fictional character. Lol.. ***** all round.. Great job.
First of all let me say that this author’s book covers just pull you in! That just gave me another point to rate the books on! Because the cover is usually the first thing you see and sometimes we look at the cover and think, “I’ll pass”. I didn’t read her other books but I did take a look at them and her covers definitely set her apart from the rest. Now, on to the review...I loved this book, it felt so real. I know we all have had that one person that we just couldn’t let go of even though we know it’s not good for us and somebody better is trying to take his place. Well that’s what this book is about. He’s your Ex for a Reason. But for some reason we forget that. The storyline was perfect. I laughed and cried. This was a page turner, COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN. This author is new for me but I have plans to read her entire catalog soon! The covers of these books are amazing.
On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being absolute trash and 10 being good as good can be:
Total Book Experience 10/10 Plot/Storyline 10/10 Writing (Errors) 10/10 Characters 10/10 Book Cover 10/10
I really connected with Layla’s character. Although I think Brody and Layla were my favorite couple in this book, Layla by herself stood out to me the most. The pain that she went through growing up, having unanswered question about her mother who abandon her resonated with me! It was like reading a book about my issues and not fully healing from the pain her birth mother caused her. Her healing process was real. I felt her cries. Seemed like I witness her pain. How she turned her pain into dope poetry! Sheesh, BriAnn I was sleeping on this! *face palm*. Shanae and Levi love story is one for the books. Levi came back to reclaim what was his. Daddy said can I write my name in it!!! Ok! So cute. I was extremely surprised when Erik did a whole 180! Knowing that you have a problem is one thing but actually fixing it is another! This book was filled with second changes, redemption and forgiveness! Loved it!
This was a good read… I related to all 3 ladies and it spoke on some heavy topics. The main one is not walking away when all the signs of why you should is there. Sometimes it’s hard to put yourself first because we haven’t learned our worth, trying to see the best in our partner, or holding on to how they “use to be”. The hardest lesson I learned is the potential we see and who they really are, is two different things.
I don’t give spoilers so it’s hard to share more without spoilers. I recommend reading this especially if you’ve ever stayed in a relationship longer then you know you should’ve, currently In a situation where you know yall time has come to an end, or even if you just want to read a good women’s fiction with spice, real issues, and banter. Because LEVI, RONDO, and BRODY is everything I need in a man. The way they supported, loved, and encouraged these women was top tier!!
First read by this author...definitely won't be my last!!!
Where do I start? This story gave us a plot that was engaging, characters you could see and feel, substance, focus, great editing and a satisfying ending...all the traits that make for an excellent read. My heart ached for Kali, Shanae, and most definitely for Layla. Those sisters went through it but through their tragedies they found triumphs within themselves and their new love was the icing on a already delicious cake. Great theme of self care and self love. I thoroughly enjoyed this book...hated to see it end. I will read more from this exceptional writer.
This book was soooo GOOD. The way all three main characters, Kali, Layla and Shanae love lives started out I was nervous they would never find peace. But they not only found peace but true love in the process. I’m not just speaking about their new love interests but the new love they found within themselves for themselves. Honestly probably my favorite part about this book. You can’t seek love from someone else without first truly loving yourself flaws and all❤️
This is a really good book the title is definitely appropriate. There's Shanae, Kali and Layla three 20 something women and the changes they go through to pick up the pieces after breaking up with their exes. This is a complete story the author has done an amazing job of adding new characters and keeping everything flowing seamlessly. I would highly recommend this book. Great job to BriAnn.
One of the lady’s from my book group told us about this book. I said well I’m gonna try it out and see what its about and bbbbaaabbbyyy!!! It was just that…it help me realize that I was in a situationship alone and settling just cause. Thank you for writing this book and helping us as women realizing that we’re not alone and it’s not personal cause we all have our moment to get to the other side.
BriAnn is literally one of my favorite authors! This book was the book I didn’t know I needed! The title truly says it all “He’s your ex for a reason”! This story follows 3 women who were dealing with a lot relationship wise, trauma and toxicity. I was so glad to see them all come out on top in the end I live for a HEA! When that ex calls let it go to voicemail, sis! Remember you can literally bounce back from ANYTHING 🫶🏾
I don’t leave a lot of reviews on books but I should now. I absolutely love this!.
Gives you just the perfect mix and it’s not your average story at all. Gives you a lot more to work with as far as details and background information. Honestly I was looking for another great book to read and definitely found it. I totally recommend
BriAnn you never disappoint. This book was so amazing and touching. Sometimes it's so hard to see what we deserve versus what we want. Thank you for your gift. This book was a blessing to read and I'm pissed because I waited so long to read it. Once again, thank you for sharing your art with the world. Keep slaying Queen.
Sometimes you find a book that captures your attention simply by the title. Letting go is never easy but at the same time a friendly reminder is all that you need to validate the decision you initially made. I love happy endings gives me hope and inspires me that the best is yet to come.
This novel was exceptionally outstanding to the way everyone relationship form and came together. This is a must read because I couldn’t put the book down. I really appreciate the author sharing her talents with use and looking forward to more.
This was my second book I read, and I can say Ms Briann is everything with her words and just the story itself ....Shanae, Layla, Kali went through so much but go their HEA in the end I couldn't be more happy.... reading your stories, they just flow and keep wanting more... on to the next now just gonna read your whole catalog.
Everything about this book was amazing. From the romance to the fact that each story from Layla to Kali to Shanae I loved how all of those beautiful ladies were about to break generational curses that most African American women go through. Such a refreshing book🖤wish I could give this book more stars !
This was the first time that I read a book by this author. It will not be the last. I liked all three ladies. I think that she showed a realistic look at what young love looks like.
At first this book started out slow for me. I’m happy I kept reading it because it was a great read. So many good points and so many different emotions. She’s is becoming one of my favorites.
This book was so deep on so many levels. From the beginning to the end the author had me deep in my feelings, so many tears. But I'm glad it ended just as good! Two thumbs up on a fire book.
