Every year, upon the Phoenix's death and rebirth, the island is also born anew. Jungle may appear where once a desert existed, swamps might be replaced with a placid lake, and highland hills could become treacherous, forbidding mountains. Those who live on the island are trapped by a mysterious and impenetrable fog. They cannot leave, and few ever find their way to the island.
It is into this ever-changing landscape that seventeen-year-old Roy must venture if he intends to clear his name and prove himself worthy of the Phoenix Gift. He must find and confront the legendary Phoenix, one of the two vast and ancient powers that rule the island, while avoiding the many dangerous creatures that hunt the interior.
It is a journey that will bring out the best and worst in him and his companions-one in which he discovers that the truth is not what he had been led to believe. Failure will see him dead or outcast, forever a nameless man, not fit to live among his people. But more than the island itself has conspired to guarantee his failure. Dark forces have begun to gather, putting Roy at the center of a primeval battle that could cost him much more than his life.

I decided to try Phoenix Quest after reading books 1-4 of the author's series about King David. My favorite genre is Biblical historical fiction and I absolutely love that series. To be honest I almost abandoned Phoenix Quest during the first chapter, but I picked it back up and was very rewarded for doing so! The setting is amazing and wonderfully described. The characters have depth and grow in themselves and with each other as they go on their quest. All questions that may come up in your mind as you read are answered as the story unfolds. Even if there's was not a sequel, you would be satisfied with the end of this book. I am anxious to get started on the next one!
Although the story started a bit slow it improved a lot once Roy began his quest with a couple of surprising companions. The book was well-written and edited a fine degree, which I very much appreciated. Other things I appreciated was the clean dialogue. No swearing, no sexual entanglements, not even unwarranted violence. Very clean...I'd have no problem reading this to my little grand-daughter. I enjoyed this book, which although the first of a series, was self-contained and come to a satisfying end following the quest. Well done and keep up the good work.
This adventure fantasy has a very entertaining storyline with great characters and excellent world-building. It does need a bit of editing but the story kept me turning pages. This is book one and I'm looking forward to the second book in this series. It's wonderful to see interesting and action filled books that are also clean and wholesome.
This books is a Teen/Young adult novel. So me being 61 years of age am not the target audience. By all accounts I should have been board with this book, and yet, I could not put it down. I was looking for the next book in the series before i even reached the half way mark.
Great Story, well written and a page turner complete with a moral for young people. I just can not wait to see how this all turns out!
This book/story is a delight for people of ALL AGES !
A Phoenix, dragon, trolls, elves, a manticore in a maze and a quest will change the hearts of 3 teens in a way they didn't expect! Shown the power of a naming and an allegory of the two warring sides inside us all, this book was a refreshing story and one I can confidently encourage others to enjoy!
Roy is a thoughtless young man who doesn't realize his actions have consequences. Named as deviant by the court, he must complete a quest to the Phoenix's nest. Minnie, the girl who he constantly tormented, and the prince join Roy. They learn to support each other and become true friends.
Its been awhile since I've read a book I have given totally lost in. I found myself immersed in the atmosphere, and identifying in the emotions, deeds, & conflicts of the characters.
Magical quest with wondrous beings of power enchant and thrill continuously. Great tale of spiritual development and growth for all time. Splendid tale.
Muy buena aventura con aspectos inesperados. Un poco irritante el carácter del personaje principal Roy, pero tal vez fue un tanto a propósito. De resaltar los valores cristianos que se exhiben.
