And much, much more.
Regardless of whether you wish to approach healing with a vegan diet or not, this is a fantastic read! Here is why: Dr Goldner covers a ton of motivational-type stuff. I feel like I had a personal counselor coaching me through my daily challenges, and helping me figure out how to integrate more self-care into my daily routine. I will definitely be reading this again. For anyone struggling with chronic health issues, there are so many ways to decrease inflammation and manage symptoms! Dr Goldner is human, and therefore excused from perfection and omniscience... she may not have everything perfectly right and that is ok. Even if you wish to try a different approach in terms of nutrition, this book is still a treasure trove of help with behavior changes, and challenging your struggle areas. Implementing big changes and really giving a healing plan a good, long effort is HARD work. Dr Goldner’s coaching in this book is so helpful with implementing your chosen lifestyle changes. My one critique of this book is that it really needs to be read alongside her other one, “Goodbye Lupus” because she does not really spell out her nutritional prescription in this one- it’s mainly trouble shooting and how to implement self-care. Dr Goldner has helped many people, and I am grateful to her for sharing her work.
Most chapters were motivational or case studies. Very little about the actual diet, although I gather I should drink at least 3-4 liters of water daily, have 4 cups packed raw greens (blending with water & sweet fruit making that easier to consume), 4 cups raw veggies, cut all dairy and animal products, cut processed foods (however she uses soya sauce & Dijon mustard in one of her videos so perhaps the odd processed food is okay).
My major problem with this diet is, if it is so effective, why are there no scientific studies? There are only anecdotal reviews which are hardly scientific or long-term.
Also, people vary greatly in size. Should a 5' tall, 100lb woman try to drink the same amount of water & eat the same amount of vegetables as a 6'2" 210lb male? I am testing this diet out (I'm on day 3) and my stomach is dangerously distended sometimes. It is an enormous amount of "bulk".
Update: Bloodwork done a few days ago. No change. I'm going to stick to a balanced Roy Laver Swank (M.S.) diet which is basically: **No processed foods containing saturated or hydrogenated fats. **1 tsp cod liver oil per day. **Limit fats to saturated fat < 15g per day & unsaturated fat 20-50g per day. **Handful of nuts/seeds per day. **Vegetables & fruits with focus on veggies (as much as you want). **No red meat. Skinless chicken or turkey breast. White fish allowed but limit fatty fish to 50g/day. **0% or 1% dairy products. **Egg whites only. **Whole grains like brown rice, oatmeal and 100% whole wheat flour.
This book is hard for me to rate. Dr. Goldner's protocol is amazing. It's the only thing giving me the energy to get through my days lately. But it's hard to find the whole protocol. Her other book Goodbye Lupus has a lot of the dietary part. This book has a lot of the emotional work and some incredible testimonials. She also has a lot of great YouTube videos, a website, and a Facebook group where you can glean more information. If you work hard, you can find everything.
I can't give this any less than 5 stars for the powerful information, but do be aware that it can be frustrating trying to piece together her full program.
From the title, you might expect more info about what food to eat and what to avoid. It is not so much about the actual protocol to heal as it is a book about motivation and full of tips about sticking with your diet. Very helpful if you expect this:)
I found the marketing and hype very misleading. Broad generic information that anyone with an autoimmune disease would already know. Absolutely NO recipes or daily meal plans. Very disappointed! A come on to schedule a n expense one on one consult.
Quite full of useful motivational work if you’re wanting to improve your attitude and your health. If you’re looking for the full diet protocol you may needs try her previous books.
This is a book about how a vegan, whole-food diet can improve your health. If that is something that interests you, this is a very interesting and useful read. Dr. Goldner focuses on her recommended diet in her other book, "Goodbye Lupus." In this book she focuses on emotional mindset and goal-setting to change one's diet and health.
A complete disappointment. The writer seems to try and fool us in order to make sales. Infuriating for people who indeed suffer with disease. Based on outdated science creating misinformation around autoimmune.
Even though we know good health is important and impactful on our bodies, it's still amazing to learn about the amazing things it can do for our health if we make positive dietary changes to what we eat. Even disease reversal; I'm impressed by the examples in this book of such dramatic changes of peoples' health and how life-changing it has been for them. Even for diseases that are thought to be "incurable".
I do wish there was more detail in this book of what the specific diet she recommends looks like. I did read in a review someplace that it is explained in more detail in her first book-so maybe. Or maybe I need to do more research on her website to get more detailed information.
I am a little disappointed and wondering why she did not have more examples of healing people with Hashimoto's. Is it harder and less likely to heal from Hashimoto's with this diet? I'd be curious and interested to hear more stories of people that suffer with that since that is my personal issues and so I'd love to hear what the successes look like for that.
I plan to do more research on her diet plan and hopefully implement it and see how it can help me. I'm hopeful to see some positive changes!
It is more about how to achieve peaceful mind and second part mostly is about positive feedbacks of patients. I dont know its true or not, but I believe that it can help to my mom whi is diagnosed with autoimmune diseases. There is no clear protocol and reciepes to follow. I can prepare smoothies based on this book, but later how to go on, I need more to learn from her maybe other books.Mostly she speaks about her 6weeks rapid recovery program kinda advertisement.
The second book to the healing programme for disease definitely focuses more on the mindset and getting off on the right foot. As well as dealing with those demons that keep telling you to stop. I enjoyed this read and it definitely helps motivate me if I have a bit of a dip because half the journey to healing isn't just your gut health but also your mind and Brooke writes about overcoming them challenges well.
As I started to read this book I felt mounting excitement. The words on the pages really resonated with me. My partner is vegan. I am mostly dairy free but have been reluctant to commit to this diet. I have challenged myself to 30 days dairy free, have ordered a smoothie maker and some flax seed. I feel optimistic that I have just found the missing piece of my health jigsaw.
Brooke Goldner’s advice is exactly what I needed: no doctors are able to point to as much evidence healing autoimmune and chronic conditions with massive amounts of raw vegetables as she does, and her story of reversing her disease is incredible. I only put 4 stars because she clearly needs a proofreader/book formatter to go in and fix the content of the book.
Brooke Goldner is renowned within her field for her green smoothie that cures quite a lot of ills. She has cured herself of lupus. I have incorporated the green smoothie into my daily routine. A fun way to get some healthy nutrients! I only use a handful of spinach in my smoothies. I learned the hard way and got a bad tummy ache!
Started motivational then went to case studies. The idea is all plant based and nothing else. There's no recipes, explanation on the program etc. There's also no recorded facts in the book other than the case studies. With that said the info is good and gives an idea of things to try if suffering.
Well written & great for addressing mind body issues in autoimmune disease. But it’s lacking scientific evidence behind the protocol & a full blown explanation of WHY only chia seeds & flax seeds are allowed. Also claiming that calories & protein “don’t matter” is very concerning & dangerous to say to people who may have eating disorders.
This book has been instrumental for me in recovering my health. I lost 20 pounds and became a vegan. I have been enjoying so much more vitality and well-being. I saw Dr. Goldner speak live at a Houston area wellness event and she is an even better speaker. Highly recommend listening to her free videos or go see her speak live!
Si vous aimez les exemples de succès, ce livre est pour vous! Il ne contient pas de recettes et n’explique pas son concept. Il se veut un outil additionnel, pour pousser la guérison plus profondément. Pour les amateurs de « self help ».
So I thought this book would describe her diet protocol in depth. Turns out it's the Lupus book that does that; this book is about other lifestyle changes and having a positive attitude in one's capability to heal.
This book helped me cure the inflammation in my body and I am forever grateful to Dr. Brooke for publishing this and the other two books that are part of her healing process.
