Everyone learns to walk before they run and every believer learns to vocalize prayer before moving into sustained deep silences of communion with God. By Jesus' example, we know that He prayed the Scriptures aloud. Praying the Bible takes an old concept, the prayer book and gives it a modern twist: complete passages of Scripture laid out in sections of distinct prayer genres. Eight categories with 88 prayers enable readers to quickly reference the prayers of the prophets, the wisdom prayers, the prayers of Jesus, the apostolic prayers and more. The introductions to each section expand on each specific type of prayers and also include detailed instruction of how to pray that specific section. This is a prayer tool for both the novice prayer and the seasoned intercessor that provides discipline & focus.

This book has at the beginning some explanation of how to read and pray the Bible back to God. And then most of the book is the prayers themselves based on the NIV translation of the Bible. I like praying the Bible and I used to take verses from the Bible for more than ten years and rewrite them into my journal by putting in personal pronouns or whatever I was praying for to make it personal. A majority of the prayers in this book don't seem to be setup or written as prayers, but only taken from the Bible as such. It would've been easier if a person didn't have to take the text they were reading and turn it into a prayer themselves, but have it already there with the reference to the Scripture.
This is a well written book but I feel it is something that should be geared toward pastors to teach to congregations or groups but for lay persons this is not or if someone is a new Christian this would definitely not be for. I am a pastors daughter I found it hard to follow and hard to understand in many places. In the book it is very well written but I would recommend it to my Dad but not to a new believer - definitely not, they would be lost in the very first chapter.
I found this book very practical. There are many advantages to praying the scripture, and books abound on this. I liked his approach to organizing the prayers, not by prayer topic, but by prayer type, such as the Psalms, Prayers of the Prophets, Prayers of Jesus, etc. I will use this book regularly.
Praying the Bible teaches you how to incorporate God's Word into your daily prayers. When you speak the Word and declare it during your prayers, they become more powerful. If you are looking for a book filled with prayers for different areas of your life, look no further than this book.
* I received this from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I recommend this book as well worth reading, it's a huge encouragement on helping people learn to pray or expand prayer lives.. I consider this book a real GEM!
A great tool for when you want to pray but you're not sure what to say. The bible is full of prayers of those spiritual giants and those at the end of their rope. When praying God's word back to him we are able to engage with it in a whole new way.
