Clyde Barker, a pro bono Lawyer with a special Gift, digs deep into his past to solve a twenty-seven-year-old double homicide. The trail takes him into Atlanta's seedy underbelly.
I really like the two books I've read by this author. I appreciate the lack of foul language. Because of that I was able to focus on the story content and not worry about what was coming next. I was glad to see the main character bring back his focus on his GIFT. Looking forward to reading the next one. BTW get a new proofreader. The last two books left much to be desired with all the blatant mistakes.
I found this book a bit of a disappointment after reading The Promise. First of all, I read because I love words! Especially when they come together as a great story. The author of these books really needs to look into another editor! The blatant errors made in editing were inexcusable. Many times the sentences did not even make sense. If I wanted to experience illiteracy I would not have to buy the book! In this book I felt no connection to the main character. Unlike with The Promise, this book left me with an "I don't care attitude".
Transitioning from a bereaved survivor to a callous avenger would be tough for most heroes. Clyde is no exception. That he finds no redemption for his lonely soul is disappointing but realistic. I will read the final book in the series to see if that happens. I can do proofreading for you if you wish to be taken seriously. This author has potential with just a little cleanup and seasoning.
Sometimes an author takes his character too far to the extreme in the name of justice. That happened to character, Clyde Barker, in this book. That said, I’ll not be reading the rest of this series.
The vow by J.S Donovan. Clyde Barker, a pro bono Lawyer with a special Gift, digs deep into his past to solve a twenty-seven-year-old double homicide. The trail takes him into Atlanta's seedy underbelly. A slow but sometimes enjoyable read. I did find this very slow in places. I hope there is more to come. 4*.
Not as good as the promise. I enjoyed the storyline of the promise and Clyde because of his “gift. In the Vow he was set on vengeance and ignored his “gift” throughout most of the book. Clyde’s “gift” is what makes the story interesting. Hopefully the next book The Oath gets back to Clyde’s “gift”.
Sadly, this book was not my cup of tea and a bit of a letdown after the first book. It started losing me when the main character joined the underbelly of society in his quest for justice though I can see the necessity for the plot. It just wasn't enjoyable reading for me. Also, there are still editing problems that need addressing.
Found it took a bit longer to read. I got a bit lost in the middle because I didn't like the section on the gambling and partying part. I did like the ending though. Will certainly continue with the series though.
I liked this book very much. It was exciting and interesting. I couldn't wait to see what happened next. It ended kind of suddenly I thought, but I still really enjoyed it.
Ai s a seer myself I can understand while Clyde did so much for the dead Tell you what you keep writing them and ill keep reading sincerely christinedunne wtea
however, still entertaining. I would have liked more Sarah, probably because I like her character. The tougher Clyde took me awhile to get use to. But the character who stole my heart was Isaac. His fate was not told in this story. But, maybe in the third installment that I recently purchased.
Clyde makes an insightful observation at one point: sometimes what remains behind of the deceased bears little resemblance to their living selves. Sometimes the remnants are mostly raw emotion- and it’s not usually pretty.
The death of his parents when he was five left him permanently scarred, and activated his talents to perceive the dead in a very vivid way. He can only see those who have passed and not moved on, so Clyde often sees very violently damaged persons.
When it comes to the death of his own parents, betrayal seems to lurk around more than one corner.
Is truth necessary to help them move on or is there another resolution that will aid them?
What cost to Clyde and friend Sarah?
Intense psychic and psychological drama!

I loved the Promise but found this, the resolution to Clyde Barker’s story disappointing. There were so many loose ends or rushed and vague resolutions! Or none at all. Hello: Isaac and Alicia? Without giving away spoilers, the resolution with his parents was weak and disappointing. I expected more! Literally 99 percent of the book was a carefully woven and fascinating storyline that was resolved in a wimper. Clyde deserved more, Sarah deserved more, his parents’ ghosts deserved more and most importantly we, the readers, deserved more. I will not read any other books by this author, which is too bad since the characters and storyline were rich. But a book isn’t a good book without a fully developed ending, making it not worth my time! PS This book is full of typos, so many I was shocked. I’ve never seen so many in a published book!
The main character, Clyde, embarks on an exciting adventure to avenge his parents death. Clyde is involved in crimes that give a reader the shivers. Throughout the book, I considered his actions at times to be crazed but somehow Clyde stumbled toward justice perhaps not the legal form. Clyde also sees dead people who follow him around waiting for resolution to their earthly problems. It's not easy to be Clyde. I read both books in this series. Look forward to further books featuring Clyde.
I loved this story about a man trying to find his parent's killer. I loved that he had the gift of seeing ghosts but this did not make his search easy. This man happens to be a lawyer like his father. I liked the interactions between him and his roommate. I also enjoyed Clyde's conversations with Sarah, because she didn't hold back her opinions. I look forward to reading more from this author.

I really enjoy this fast paced series with one exception. Both this and the first book are peppered with typos and grammatical errors. It’s inexcusable and annoying. I will read the third book in this series however I cannot possibly give 5 stars when there is such a lack of proofreading. Such a shame.
Action packed and hard to put down. Interesting story wrapped around a ghost story. Recommend reading if you like reading about paranormal stories, I enjoyed it and look forward to the next book about Clyde and his seeking of justice for the murdered!
The cast of characters were each complex in their own ways and the relationships among them surprising. The “gift” added an interesting dynamic and opened a lot of possibilities. Enjoyed the read!
