Lydia
The moment our eyes first met, I felt it. I’m not even sure what it was that I felt but I got the distinct feeling that this man would change my life forever.
A week later I’m a witness to something that wasn’t meant for my eyes. Now, I’m locked up inside a bedroom, in a far off compound, in a foreign country.

Emilio
What she saw should’ve cost her her life. Anyone else on the planet, and it wouldn’t have even been a second thought. But something in me wouldn’t let me do it. Instead, I bring her to my home. Lock her in a guest bedroom until I can discern what the hell this feeling is that she stirs in me. With each passing day, the feeling grows, pulling me closer to her instead of pushing me away. I work to maintain my control around her, to preserve the icy exterior the rest of the world receives from me, but she’s making it difficult.
I’m realizing I’m not letting her go because she could be a threat to the family but because doing so would be an even bigger threat to my heart.

3.5 for a solid read. I don’t consider this a dark romance at all. I wished the conversation we got at the end would have happened in the middle vs the end of the book. The main characters barely talked to each other. He mainly bosses her around. Also the issue felt like an after thought and was anti climatic. Good effort but could have been a 5 star read if the plot was flushed out more and more character development

Great read!
i read Bella fist, so the Genoveses men and famiglia are no strangers. Lydia would never guess in a million years that her Italian trip would turn out from a nightmare to happily ever after. Sometimes, you just never know!!

This was a great story! I wish that Tiffany Patterson had it advertised through Amazon (as she has her others) and have a "mob series" for the family so that it would be easy to order. Lydia is very resourceful in her escape from Emilio and his guards (who are also family members) and returned to the States! Wow! The entire time I kept thinking that she would be caught. But, there is no escaping the mob/mafia and Emilio was also "resourceful" in his search for his woman! I love that Emilio and Lydia had their HEA. I recommend reading this book. Now, I am going to read "Bella" which is the story about Emilio's younger brother, Christian.

Locked Doors by Tiffany Patterson can currently be obtained by purchase on her website. The story is a good solid, slightly dark mafia romance that includes kidnapping and some violence but not against the MFC. The book is the first in a series and the secondary characters are interesting enough that their stories should be just as intriguing as this one. Lydia has rewarded her years of hard work and emotional turmoil with her dream vacation to Italy. She only has one living relative, her brother, horrific memories of her time in foster care, and does not have a current romantic relationship. In a local café, she briefly encounters Emilio, the Prince of Palermo (mafia prince that is) and is viscerally affected by his magnetism. Imagine her surprise when she sees him later that night at the opera engaging in a shocking act of violent revenge. Unfortunately, Emilio is made aware of her knowledge and instead of doling out the usual consequences, he takes her to his compound! Emilio is just as smitten with Lydia as she is with him and the pair dance around their forbidden attraction for several weeks. How long before they give in to their feelings or before Lydia tries to escape her gilded cage? Emilio and Lydia both had baggage and trauma from their past; regrettably, they did not communicate their feelings or their fears. I enjoyed this well-crafted story. and Emilio was a protective and passionate partner. Lydia deserved his devotion, and I hope somewhere down the line he visits those foster parents 😊.

Lydia is on a much needed Italian vacation. The tour group she is with runs into the Prince of Palermo, Emilio. It’s mentioned that he loves opera and Lydia has tickets to a showing. Well, Lydia attends and happens to see something she shouldn’t have.

Emilio now has to decide what to do with Lydia. She is a witness and decides to spare her for now. She an unwilling guest for now.

They are drawn to each other and feelings are getting stronger. Lydia has fears from the past and has panic attacks. Emilio senses her fears and tries to help. Emilio is getting possessive of Lydia, she’s very independent, looking for an escape.

Things get complicated when Lydia goes back and Emilio is on the hunt to get her back.

Listen Emolio is a bit unhinged but by the end he gets it together. I'm not sure how we can um ignore the kidnapping to love part buy hey I'm not going to yuck anyone's yum. I think what really helps is that Lydia gets the family she always wanted. Now that was enough for me to look the other way. But how stressful going to Italy for a vacation to find yourself only to witness a murder and falling for a capo, what are the odds 😬

This was more of a 3.25/3.5
CN: murder, kidnapping, parental death, foster care, child abuse/neglect, stabbing, strangulation, child birth, reproductive complications, panic attacks (on page)

A really good read with lots of tension. I would’ve loved to have some of the scenes go a bit more deeper, and for the climax to really give us a show. For me, it was a bit too shallow and I understand that the author wants to string the “big baddie” throughout the books. But it left a lot to be desired for me.

DNF after 12%. I was intrigued by the premise of the story but there’s no believable chemistry or character development. The exposition is as abrupt as it gets, dropping you into a chaotic first person narrative without any introduction. Writing style is clunky at best, much too much so for me to slog through. Definitely not worth purchasing.

I loved this story. Lydia and Emilio were a pair. It was funny when she bucked his orders.. That man was a goner when it came to her. What an extended vacation she had. The family bond is strong. Can't wait to see what happens to Christian and his mom. The ending was good.

I love all this mafia and enjoyed this story so much. I enjoyed the spicy scenes, the banter back and forth and laughed in multiple places in the book. If you love hot mafia men and enjoy a great story of love and family that involve Irish and Italian Mafia men you will enjoy this story!
