I was occasionally taken into counselors' offices—as everyone was—and asked, 'What are you going to do about your career? What are your career plans?' I hate plans. Where is life's adventure if all you have in front of you is plans? Especially when someone else made them for you. My counselor had us all log into this computer so it could pick out a career for each of us, sort of like in the Soviet Union. The computer said I should be a dental hygiene assistant. No shit. I avoided my counselor after that.—Jello Biafra, vocalist for Dead Kennedys, age 26
I would never let him clean my teeth, but I wish he'd been my guidance counselor.
