In the short story of "Dance, Annie" there are not a whole lot of words, but a whole lot of pictures. This is a perfect book for those who are beginning to read. The pictures that are illustrated through out the book help the reader follow along with the actions that are included into the text. The book is about an African American little girl who loves to dance. The setting begins in the living room of her own home but quickly changes to the dance room of where she dances at. Annie then begins to show the audience the process and steps she takes when dancing. Steps included from when she begins to stretch and what she holds to stretch, to then moving towards the correct postures of the dance moves she that is performing. All in all the book depicts the many types of styles of dance that their are and includes a vivid color picture of them all within the story.

The book is written by an author who was once a dancer and dance teacher, she does a great job at using a better source of vocabulary and by this it will allow the young readers of this book further their vocabulary.

This is a charming beginning reader for a young girl. The pictures really helped to tell the story since there aren't a lot of words.
