Stealing Lizzy: A Steamy Pride & Prejudice Variation

Rate this book
No woman had ever driven Darcy to the brink of his restraint... until Elizabeth Bennet. Elizabeth's heart beats fast when she encounters the prideful Mr. Darcy in a vulnerable moment at Rosings Lake. However, her curiosity soon leads her into hot water with the man himself. Stunned by the feelings he ignites within her, Elizabeth runs -- only to find Darcy in hot pursuit. Darcy's waited a long time for his moment. Now that it's in front of him, he's willing to do whatever it takes to make Elizabeth his. Stealing Lizzy is a standalone novel-length Pride & Prejudice variation. It contains sensual scenes that require smelling salts for those of a sensitive nature.

Okay, opening on a positive. I love Emma East as a writer and have loved all of her previous books. She is a great writer and her writing style is strong in this, well edited and generally on tick. I have to comment though on her turtle in the water and a comment about a raccoon. These are not British animals and Lizzy would have little or no knowledge of them.
Right, so this opened really well. Darcy emerges from lake, abait a bit earlier than in the 1995 adaption. Lizzy on an early walk sees him and is curious. Goes back for another look and Darcy catches her. Here starts a really fun little illicit game that is soooo sexy I was like... mmph, bring it! Sadly this doesn’t last. If it had carried on, with Darcy’s dirty mouth, with a further illicit pleasures as we moved through the trad story I’d have been a happy happy camper. However it doesn’t.

*SPOILERS*

Darcy KIDNAPS Lizzy. Now, I don’t mind Darcy being a bit of a rake, I mean we all know hidden under that stiff exterior is an even stiffer... ahem*. Darcy is a bit like a Vulcan, he hides it well but his passions run deep. That’s fine. What I cannot see is this Darcy. He acts so rakishly, so rashly and so insensibility... to basically do the same as Wickham dis to his sister? Nope. Not the Darcy I know. And both Darcy and Lizzy leap through their emotions hot and cold, yes and no, in and out, up and down so much that honestly I don’t know if they do love each other. The middle is long, and confusing. The occasional sexy moment. But for a book that sits within the erotic the most erotic part is the first x4 chapters. Even the payoff is disappointing.

So high hopes I had here, but sadly it lacked the characters. It probably would have worked well as a bodice ripper with OC’s.

Three stars.

a sexy, fun read

This was a sexy, fun read with some self-recriminations but lovely, devoted, consensual undoing of Lizzy and Darcy - the ending is not closed doors. Swoon.

Perfect indulgence

Great mix of sweet and salty between Darcy and Elizabeth. I would definitely recommend this book to all Pride and prejudice junkies.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get into it

I truly enjoyed 'Forgiving Darcy' and the 'Seduction Series' by this author, but Stealing Lizzy didn't work for me. The first seven chapters was a 5 star. Unfortunately, once the kidnapping took place it went downhill from there. I couldn't understand Darcy's decision making. To avoid Darcy, Elizabeth leaves Hunsford early. Elizabeth decides she rather leave her paid coach and walk so she doesn't have to ride with Darcy. Elizabeth steals the colonel horse to get away from Darcy. Next, Elizabeth is thinking of climbing out of a window to get remove herself from Darcy. During all of this Darcy doesn't get the hint that Elizabeth doesn't want to marry him. Darcy blocked Elizabeth's every escape and he still kept demanding marriage, but never confessed any feelings for her. Darcy and Elizabeth's lack of communication made the story drag. Whenever an opportunity to make progress was available, either something misleading or insulting was said or they kept their true feelings to themselves. It happened so much I got bored. I wanted to like this story, but the more I read the more the stars dropped. I thought the story was a bit over done.

A pretty silly, wonderful in its way book - this was the perfect antidote to the headache I had. Like with a lot of P&P variations, this is pretty forward on the sexy times. That is what makes some of these fun and Emma East does that well. However, in terms of the plot this Darcy was ridiculous swerving between angst and "passion" so much that I would have had whiplash if I had not been expecting something silly.

The author tends to stretch the silliness to add drama, which I often do not need. This book's plot has been stretched as well. But since the author writes well, I had fun enough reading it. She is one of my favourites when it comes to these variations because she writes a romance, not just sexy-times. Fun read to help me through the weekend.

I did not enjoy this book. I kept reading with a hope that it would improve. The first few chapters had some funny moments but after that it went from farcical to ludicrous. The actions and behaviours of the characters were ridiculous.
The grammar was often not good, there are too many American colloquialisms which detracted from the proper English of this period and Ms East used far too many analogies and colloquial phrases in place of telling the story in her own words.
At least, Ms East needs a better editor or proofreader.

Different but good

Not your usual Darcy story. I truly enjoyed this Darcy, a risk taker. I don't believe in kidnapping, but he got the girl he loved. Very hot and steamy. Recommended to read.

Great read.

This book was very entertaining, humorous, and well paced. The plot was fun and interesting. Toward the end I became impatient, but I always do. Thus is a good writer.

All is well that ends well, and typically I don’t mind a strong and assertive Darcy, but this one was a bit much. It resolves well in the end, but there was a good section of the middle where I was really thrown by where it seemed to be going.

This is definitely a steamy variation, and I do like that. What I didn't like was that Darcy was more like Wickham in this book. He kidnapped Elizabeth with the intent to take her to Scotland, forcing her to marry him. This just didn't work for me.
