A Flicker of Hope

Rate this book
“Sunrise and sunset may appear the same at first glance, but to be wise, you must be able to tell whether you're at the beginning or the end.” With their enemy ascendant, the Outcasts find themselves questioning whether the world is even worth saving. But what if magic could dwell in unexpected places? Or be wielded by unexpected creatures? In a story filled with page-turning suspense and non-stop action, Chuck Abdella brings a satisfying close to his series with contemporary themes woven into the fabric of an exotic fantasy world. There is beauty in the struggle, even if it’s hopeless. And no matter what forces may be arrayed against us, the power of friendship endures. For beneath an ocean of darkness, there is always a flicker of hope.

Chuck Abdella is a history teacher at St. John’s High School in Shrewsbury, MA. He describes himself as: “a history teacher, indie writer, world-saver, superhero (if you believe the rumors), and youth softball coach. Not necessarily in that order.” Chuck’s four-book fantasy series, The Outcasts: The Lies of Autumn, The Darkest Forests, Whispers of Spring, and A Flicker of Hope, has been enjoyed by readers on six continents. In 2021, Chuck started a new YA fantasy series, set in a high school. The Sun and the Moon and its 2022 sequel, Shadows and Stars speak to anyone who has ever wondered if their high school teachers are from another world. Chuck has written for nearly 40 years and his writing has appeared in the St. John’s Icon, the Boston College Stylus, Worcester Magazine, and The Boston Globe. He has served as a fantasy fiction mentor at the Worcester County Writers Conference. When he’s not spending his time reminding adolescents that the Romans were much cooler than they thought, Chuck lives in Massachusetts with his wife, his daughters, a dog, and a cat that may or may not be enchanted.
