Everyone told Elijah Fischer high school would be different. Kids have bullied him because of his Tourette's syndrome for as long as he can remember. When someone tries to stuff him into a locker, it's clear things are the same as they've always been.
The only thing different about today is that the new girl at school got to see it happen. Could his luck get any worse? So much for making a good impression.
Sadie Anderson was hoping to make new friends at her new school. This guy definitely looked like he needed a friend. If he really knew her, would he feel the same?
When Sadie is offered a chance to submit a portfolio to the college of her dreams, Elijah and Sadie become partners to create a novel as a class project. Little did they know how words could change their destiny.
If you love stories about best friends overcoming the odds, this novella may be right up your alley.
Authors note: This novella can be read as a standalone but will make more sense if it's read after Love Claimed but before Jude's Song.
Mary Crawford has been lucky enough to live her own version of a romance novel. She’s married to the guy who kissed her at summer camp. He told her on the night they met that he was going to marry her and be the father of their children. Eventually, she stopped giggling when he said it and he had the last laugh as they celebrate three decades of marriage.
They have two children. The oldest is a Doctor of Osteopathy. He is across the United States completing his residency, but when he’s done, he is going to come back to Oregon and practice Family Medicine. Their youngest son is in high school and hopes to be an EMT when he grows up.
Mrs. Crawford writes full time now. She has written and published over thirty books and has several more underway.
She volunteers her time to a variety of causes and has worked as a Civil Rights Attorney and diversity advocate. Mrs. Crawford spent many years working for various social service agencies before becoming an attorney.
In her spare time, she loves to cook, decorate cakes and of course, obsessively, compulsively read.
A refreshingly uplifting story that centres around everyday life. More so that of the teenager yet there is a message here that anyone can appreciate as it does hold precedence for many situations in this often messed up world we call life. Recommended...
This was a fantastic little novella. With appearance of my fav characters as well as some new faces. Although this is more about YA, it has undertones that apply to those of all ages. And it has to be said again... I can’t wait for a Mindy book!!
Sadie and Elijah are both brilliant, lovable characters. Elijah’s been bullied his whole school career and still has an overall positive outlook and doesn’t let himself get too discouraged.
Sadie doesn’t seem to care what anyone things, with an inner beauty and strength that are hard to find in anyone, let alone teenagers. This was a short read - very positive and beautiful. Crawford does really well with a YA-type setting and a good job with both characters’ voices. The two come together and do amazing things, Likely anyone could find inspiration in this fun, short read.
Another ribbon in the never-ending ties between the generations of Whitakers, O'Brians and all their extended families. Elijah is a teenager who suffers from Tourette's syndrome. Sadie is a deaf teenager now mainstreamed in a conventional high school. After being bullied mercilessly for years, they empower themselves using their tremendous talents - one as an artist the other as a writer.
I'm sure there is more to come since Mindy is in their orbit.

When meeting Sadie in Tara’s book, I remember thinking it’d be cool to see more of her. Now, this novella isn’t what I was expecting at all, but i did enjoy it. It’s not a romance. It takes place during high school. It’s a lovely showing of The Emperor’s New Clothes. I really enjoyed it and it’s uniqueness.
An inspiring story where students with handicaps have to face the school bullies every day and learn how to navigate their lives around the abuse. The plot is a clever play that turns the tables but in a very enlightening way. A very interesting story.
Love this book from the beginning. How they turn some of the bullies around. Love how a lot of people pull together to help out and they make a big difference. Read this book.
